Could one of you gurus perhaps explain this to me:
I have a front projector displaying to a 80x60 4:3 screen.
I am watching the Discovery channel and I notice the people seem to be distorted and for the heck of it, I switch to my 16:9 mode on my screen and voila!! incredible resolution-simply astounding, albeit with black bars at the top and bottom.
I do not have an HDTV STB, at least for now.
Am I not correct in that Discovery broadcasts some of their programs in the HDTV format? What am I getting then? I know it is not true HDTV because I don't have the capability yet.
I'm a no unnahstand...

Discovery does not have an HDTV channel, so you're not looking at HDTV.

What is your programming source? Cable or DBS?
If DBS, what is your stb mfg. & model.

What is the mfg. & model of front projector?

What show were you watching? I have sometimes seen shows on SD channels that appear streched on a 4:3 TV, but look normal on a 16:9 TV. Cirque du Soleil for one. They're not HD , just anamorphicly stretched like a DVD.
