It was on my DTT-901 & Companion CRT, seems it does this with "Crushed" picture & not doing this on the main, thought it was a conversion issue it's not reception or multipath.

Now I'm thinking how the Zenith box handles this, I have not been able to watch on my 4:3 set yet.

Yep, reception is rock-solid here on 61, it is an encoder issue (or too little bandwidth allocated - possibly when there is a lot of motion on both 61.1 and 61.2). Would be curious what the rates are on each of the 4 subs.

Now 43.3 aspect ratio is totally messed up, squashed 4:3 picture as letterbox in 4:3 window with widescreen flag set (so it's really stretched by default), can't fix anymore with aspect-ratio settings.

I noted on 61.4 when a scene changes I get a bright digital momentary freeze blur, this is not related to reception either, anyone else noting this? (I may or may not had seen this on Grit too.. I recorded Dark Angel a couple weeks ago, I'll have to review it).

I mentioned on the previous page that Escape and Grit now appear to be sending their networks in fullscreen with programming letterboxed. (Still extremely stretched at times. They need to stop letterboxing fullscreen programs). Maybe they had to free up some bandwidth in order to transmit the upcoming LAFF network, so they dropped the HD feed. As for WUAB 43.3, they need to switch to a 4x3 transmission so the picture isn't stretched (HDTV) or hacked off (SDTV).

A quick check at This TV's website states that WIVM is the affiliate for the Cleveland market, though WIVM covers the Canton area.

Looks like the rumors are true about WIVM replacing Retro in favor for This.*

Its also becoming clear that none of the Cleveland stations don't want to pick up This TV, and since WIVM is a low power station in the Canton area, the majority of viewers in the Cleveland/Akron area won't be able to watch This anymore. As of now, there is no confirmation that WJW or WAOH/W35AX will become a This affiliate.

*disregard that statement

This TV shows the Cleveland affiliate at WIVM's subchannel 39.2.

Its a slight freeze with bright (flash) of horizonal or verticle lines (not blocking), & seems more common when a scene changes.

Right now on thistv's site no channel is listed, it just says WIVM,
at times when i flip to 43.3 Grit seems unwatchable due to the movie looking like people are squished on a HDTV, i think they are using the SD feed,

I'm seeing brief freezes with garbled artifacts in the lower part of the picture on my HDTV. The top half of the picture appears to be unaffected. It's either a flaky encoder or a weak downlink.

Confirmed, & left them some feedback... did they choose WIVM or did WIVM choose them? I thought This TV was the better of the diginet movie channels, I consider it a loss.

I wouldn't consider them a a Cleveland affiliate at all, call a spade a spade, it's a Canton affiliate at best.

While we're on the topic of WIVM channel 39, I've noticed a reliably decodeable signal here just west of Akron for the past couple weeks. Although it has been very weak at times, it's typically watchable. Before a couple weeks ago, it was hit or miss. And the antenna has to be pointed within a very narrow direction in order to receive it. I have been able to receive WIVM as far north as Richfield with just the Mohu Leaf, but that is high ground. Most people will lose This TV if it is only available on WIVM.

I've seen the infomercials on 23.4. What a joke! The guy claims that OTA broadcasters don't compress the picture like the cable/satellite companies do. He obviously hasn't seen 23.5, 23.6, 25.2 & 61.4. Also, they have to hide the identity of some broadcast engineer in fear that someone from a cable/satellite corporation might sue him for letting the public know that free TV still exists. (As was the case for the one customer who quit watching TV because her bill got too expensive.)

As for the antenna, UHF only, and I believe it has an amp in it. Reviews for it are poor. One person said that he received more channels with a paper clip.

As for me, I'd rather have a huge eyesore on top of the house then a compact indoor panel.

I was saying many of the same things to my father the other day. He is, sadly, rather susceptible to infomercials.

I also pointed out that the thing is VERY small...I saw a box in the "As Seen on TV" aisle at the local Walgreens. I know it's a POC and even I was surprised how small it is (it's much smaller than even the Mohu Leaf).

I then pointed out that even a modest outdoor antenna would have problems at his condo, as it is nestled in a clump of nearby very tall trees in the exact same direction as...Parma.

I was assuming they were using "fractal technology" for the small antennas like they do with the cell phones.

That probably only goes so far. It certainly couldn't overcome the VHF problem.

Me too.

Leave them Feedback on their site, perhaps they will tag on 16 (which likely will not help me any but all of you it should).

Not sure if it was WBNX dropping the ball or WIVM pursued the contract as they did the channel 39 allocation. I see they have translators in the Greater Akron area (22,27,& 51).

I would imagine it would depend on many factors, especially your area, perhaps if you were in a cooridor between Parma & Akron

I can imagine many have been frustrated by their claims.

IIRC, the news about WBNX becoming a Movies! affiliate was announced sometime in/around November. I'm not sure if WIVM even thought of carrying This at that time.

Me-TV was out this afternoon around 2:00. It's been a while since I last saw the technical difficulties slide on 19.2.

WIVM has no translators in the Akron area. Those repeaters are SOUTH of Canton, in places like Newcomerstown and Millersburg.

In most parts of Akron, that Clear TV piece of junk would be lucky if it got much more than 17/23/47/49 and MAYBE 19's RF 24 repeater, and MAYBE 29, and MAYBE some of Parma farm's full power UHFs with occasional breakups.

Those Clear TV antennas look cheap. I'm not sure what the performance is but I know the Mohu Leaf is decent, and it is not much bigger. I tested the Mohu in the Chapel Hill Mall parking lot in Akron, and it locked onto some surprisingly weak stations like WYFX-LD (RF19) and WCDN-LD (RF7).

After looking on and off for awhile I finally found the Zenith DTT-901 converter box I've had since the digital conversion took place in 2009. Using a secondhand TV my sister in law has in our kitchen and the Mohu Leaf with the Zenith I've been able to pick up:

23-1 to 23-6
27-1 and 27-2
39-1 to 39-4
45-1 to 45-4
47-1 to 47-4
49-1 to 49-4

24 Channels total-My previous placement of the Leaf only got me 10-14 channels for the most part.
