It looks like with the high pressure and clear weather we've been having, it's ideal for tropo.

Bismarck, it looks like you may be better positioned to receive tropo from areas that surround Lake Erie, and not Pittsburgh.

Check the live APRS map which reveals if there is any tropo... http://aprs.mountainlake.k12.mn.us/

I frequently see some good tropo toward Detroit, Toronto, and Buffalo, but I don't really have a good path from that direction due to my terrain. I have the higher ground in Richfield that blocks anything from the north. I'd figure that with Lake Erie nearby you, you'd have a clear unobstructed path for anything traveling across it. Screw the HOA... get a monstrous antenna on a gigantic tower and rotor.

Currently the live VHF propagation map is showing enhanced conditions near you, and it's not reaching Akron...

Tropospheric propagation usually begins around sunset and intensifies throughout the night, so the best time is usually in the morning around 7 am. It usually dies out by 11 am. Whenever a temperature inversion forms, when colder air is below warmer air, the signals tend to bend around the earth's curvature rather than going in a straight line into outer space.

Since when is WPXI COL New Castle? That's Pittsburgh's NBC affiliate (unless they are running a repeater in that city)?
