No signal here. Interesting....

EDIT: Their Facebook page says it's due to a power outage.

Bahahahaha, everyone's complaining they can't watch Dolly Parton's Christmas special!! They're all using those pretty indoor antennas that don't work well, while I just turn to WFMJ Youngstown.

I have to question that "power outage" that I mentioned in my last post as WVIZ (also on the same tower) is still on the air. This sounds more like a transmitter issue, and if it is, doesn't WKYC have an auxiliary transmitter that they can fire up?

Betsy Kling, in a video, shows on radar a lightning strike in the Tower Farm area.

TV3 went off the air at the Tower around 6:15pm, when calls started coming in.

Time Warner customers still have TV3. OTA and dishes have nothing.

Betsy was doing the weather when this happened. Blame it on her.

Just watched the video on Facebook. Nice explanation and behind-the-scenes tour of the studio. At 3:45 in the video; were those the computers with the radars for 3-3 that always display error messages or a Windows desktop background?

Find it odd that WVIZ was not affected by the assumed lightning strike as it is actually on top of the WKYC antenna.

Yeah, that one on the left.

Maybe the main bolt was not a direct hit on the tower, but a branch-off hit?

I can see the WDLI and WVPX towers outside my window. I always watch them get hit when lightning comes through, but I don't ever recall seeing either go off-the-air because of it.

It seems that Channel 3.1 doesn't have any military experience with backing up the back-up. Where is Western Electric when you need them?

So we have come to the day when we make the assumption we all have a Mobile Phone (a Smart one with a touch screen), High Speed Internet (or internet access at all), Caller ID.

No, I don't think I want to play anymore.

They were still off @ 3am

Good!! I didn’t need Retro TV on 3 channels anyways. W16DO, WAOH-CD, and WIVM-LD all carried Retro, and the programming was bottom-of-the-barrel, low-budget anyways. A few days ago, I turned on WAOH-CD, and there was a “free trial” watermark on their programming. How unprofessional is that? This will be a nice upgrade for WIVM/WIVN.

I don't think stations want to carry Retro TV anymore due to their programming. Retro TV (back when it's name was RTN) was actually pretty decent back in the day and was one, if not, the first diginet with a classic TV format. However, they were quickly outdone after the launch and success of Antenna TV and Me-TV. Retro TV has been mostly reduced to low budget and public domain programming with little to no restoration, and if you watch the network on WAOH/W16DO, then Retro TV is really retro.

Sad that Comet is being affiliated with low power stations in NE Ohio where a line of sight is mainly required to receive these stations.

Saw that a few times, too. Acorn TV, I think. It sounds like Retro is selling off programming blocks to 3rd parties.

BTW. Wasn't the overall quality of Retro on WIVM/WIVN 1000% better than WAOH/W16DO?

Swap parts?! You mean, from their backup transmitter that they never fired up?

And if that green board is fried, how did they get it working again? Did they solder in a new component?

I've seen that DVD recorder menu before, particularly for a few seconds right before the start of that church program.
