Howdy neighbor! I presume you are downhill at that intersection. If you are getting it there WEKA is not as weak as everyone makes it out to be!

I'm a bit north of the intersection in the Coral Gables development. I forget to mention I am using a basic indoor antenna.

OK so you are half-way up the hill. Not bad for "weak" WEKA.

Reception of WGGN TV52 (RF42) Update:

Signal level today is down in the 40s.

I grabbed the mast/CS-4 antenna and set it up in front of the West window. Signal was 40s with some peak 50s.

(Drum roll...) I dropped the top window down. Signal shot-up into the mid 80s... some peaks near 90!!!

Metallic Glass. Can it easily enough be replaced? It's gotta be some solar radiation reduction feature.
I bet an attic-mount would work fine. Still don't know if I want to do that. I don't like dealing with fiberglass. Done that years ago.

.

Vizio Firmware Thread / Vizio P50-C1 / XR6P10 Tablet, Judder-free 24p on TVs / Test Download Speed / For Your Next (Vizio) Display?

Mar 8, 2017: Updated Color Tuner Adjustments (I have no access to post 49268961 - new link upcoming for Beta 3.2.8.3 Firmware).

Window tinting can attenuate signals. I had an XM antenna on my windowsill for years. Had the windows tinted to 40%, last summer. XM signal went from full scale to nothing. Wound up having to rig up an outside antenna.

Walking the fine line between jaw-dropping and a plain ol' yawn.

I guess if you are within 10-15 miles of their transmitters you are good. Much more than 20 miles, forget it. Especially for WQDI.

Bet Andrew was having fun! No wonder 8 was gone all night & doing a Channel add on the Zenith "0 New Channels found", I seem to get the drawbacks of tropo but none of the benefits (at least not anymore).

16 was coming in until it started raining.... Wait, it didn't rain on the West Side or Akron last night, did it?

Gee, it comes in without pixelization on an indoor you are doing pretty good, why complain?

I'd rather not deal with falling through the ceiling or getting stuck up there myself... the fiberglass I can deal with.

I checked yesterday morning, and all I could get from the tropo was the usual pests from Cincinnati to Altoona... 200-mile garbage... WCPO, WSTR, WKEF, WTAJ.

Nope

Never lose 16. Or anything from the Parma farm.

Sometimes lose the Akron stations and WMFD during tropo. But there is a ridge in the way for these.

Even though the reception is fine, some people, like myself, like to get the strongest signal possible as this minimizes the occasional breakups.

I found out the other day that if I bypass my cable spitters, WEAK comes in 1 dB stronger. (~17 dB instead of ~16 dB). This is funny as a single splitter knocks 3.5 dB off the signal. Is this telling me that I'm getting the best signal possible from them? Also strange is that WEKA does not come in at all if I attach my Zenith converter box directly to my outdoor antenna, but it comes in at times on my Samsung HDTV with the splitters installed. (I guess Samsung did something right with my TV).

Newer is not always better.

Tut Tut, The Best ... good thing you aren't out my way, that would be a real challenge.

I never get 53 or WOIO off the farm... seems they abandoned a chunk of viewers in Lake, Western Ashatbula & Northern Geauga Counties leaving them without a CBS affiliate. My Former Co-Worker in Chesterland (or Chester Twp) has better Luck with KDKA & the Youngstown affiliate than WOIO the past couple years.

I never loose 16.1 either. I sat on 41.1 for a while and it would blip in and out but mostly out.

The rain was way to the south and east, there was a big storm on the east coast. That link I posted showed a big red swatch of tropo nearly 1500 miles long!

BTW As I am posting now, N.W. Ohio is under a decent tropo event (but not as strong as yesterdays). That link updated in real time, and it seems to show more if you zoom in and then back out. Also it's a worldwide site, you may have to set it up to view our part of the planet.

Forgot about 53 (RF7) since I don't watch it, this disappears sometimes and I've even seen WJBK over it once or twice. I've seen WOIO with reduced apparent signal strength during tropo (must be CFPL interference) but it never fails to decode.

Exactly the point. Get signal headroom. What's wrong with you Bismarck? You ought to know that.

Having WGGN sit on average of a signal level in the low 50s is not good. So, the other day while I had some peak 50+ readings... the quick dips into the 30s and upper 20s busted-up my reception of TV52.

I can make up a temporary rain shield for the top window being down for the summer, but come winter, I have to have something else figured-out. Maybe a double layer plexiglass mount with insulation in between?

Perhaps a pole mount in the ground just outside my window or it'll be the attic.

If I end up in the attic... IF... I do have a brand new, never used rotator and RG-6 cabling.

(A quick check just now of TV52 shows the signal in the 80s with peak hit at 90!)

I had WILX from Lansing pop in one night when WOIO abruptly went out.

There's been a few times when CFPL and/or WILX were strong enough to break up WOIO. But yes, these stations normally degrade WOIO with no breakups during tropo events.

Newer is not always better.
