OK, I now live in Jersey City (formerly NYC), only 6 blocks away from the Wiz. I have DirectV and trying to get some OTA as well via the DST 3000 PLUS either the RS double bowtie or the MegaWave MTV-1 (still experimenting).
Is it at all possible for me to get MSG-HD or FSNY-HD via OTA?
Do I have to move to L.I. now?:D Is that the new HD enclave?
Thanks,
Noel
Ex Post Facto I read John Tillman's post and see that I do not qualify for this perk. Oh well!:(

I am in west babylon and am wondering what channels the people are locking onto to receive the HD MSG cable channels. By the way I do get CBS, FOX, UPN with a set of rabbit ears and am experimenting with others. I use a sony hd receiver

all fired up

These are UHF channel numbers. Set your receiver to "Air", not "Cable".

Has anyone receiving FSNY and MSG from Cablevision had trouble with it lately ? The last few nights FSNY has just looked like stretched 480i for the Hockey and Basketball games. Also, last night MSG looked more like 720p than its usual 1080i. I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this ?

Vic:

You can add another green checkmark in New Hyde Park (11040).
There's a house for sale on my street.

Ken Ross and myself have mentioned in differnet places the same observations. I have noticed that since the SuperBowl neither channel has looked the same.

Vic,

Remember, Cablevision has put these 3 HTDV channels on for their purposes only (The Wiz). They are not charging anybody for them, they don't appear on any bill, and if you call their service department to discuss any problem they are very reluctant to talk about it. Most of the people at the company don't know a thing about HDTV. Whenever they want to they can remove them all and there is nothing anybody can do about it. Buy the best house you can and worry about HDTV later.

Far out, Vic. Nice use of graphics. When my browser displayed this page was loading at about 3/4 MB, wondered what was coming! That map, on a national scale, is what I keep suggesting would be nice to have special avsforum server software create with automatic statistical processing of polls. Suspect it would save a little effort. ;) -- John

Can't help you with an installer, but at this point only one NYC HD channel exists (CBS), which is also available to you via Dishnetwork.

WTNH-10 an ABC affiliate (VHF) from CT is out there too, but is not at full power yet. If you have interest in this, persue UHF and VHF units or a UHF/VHF combo on a rotor. I'd recommend an amp due to your distance from Empire & CT.

I don't remember the name of the company, but you can call Pete at (516) 808-1221. These guys installed my antenna and both of my satellite dishes (I had big tree issues). I believe that they are in the Hicksville area.

These guys were recommended to me by Gary Merson when he did my ISF calibration.

My antenna and rotor were installed by A1 Antenna [718-746-7167]. The owner (Ed LaRosa) can also be reached at his cell phone number [917-869-9716]. He did a beautiful job mounting the antenna and rotor shaft on my chimney without mutilating my home. He has been very accommodating whenever I have contacted him to ask questions.

This thread is bringing tears to my eyes. I get misty when people's priorities are so well thought out :p.

When I bought my house I was on a quest to ensure that cable modems where available. At that time Cablevision didn't offer it so I eliminated those towns. I'm in NJ so it probably doesn't matter anyway but every time I watch a NY Rangers game and it shows the HD broadcast sponcer I go into convulsions. Being a Comcast customer I expect I won't see any HD Rangers unless Cablevision goes under. I'm sure rooting for that to happen :D

Vic,

You might want to go to http://groups.yahoo.com/ and join the group "cablevision_digital". The subject comes up regularly. Cablevision is working hard to get the bugs out of their new digital service before tackling HDTV for the masses. They hope to have a HDTV box with component out by year-end.

I assumed they meant this year-end. But we know what happens when we assume. :)
