As a hearing impaired person, i am very interested in the status of close captioning on HDTV programming. I have been told by several broadcasters (HBO, CBS) that the technology does not yet exist to supply cc on HDTV. Has anyone heard any different?

It doesn't exist! Wrong, this is an excuse. In Orlando (after much pressure was applied) we have CBS HD,ABC-HD, NBC-HD, all doing captions HBO-HD has captions although they don't work correctly most of the time. I know I have seen other stations like NBC-HD in Tampa and WB-HD,CBS-HD in Miami doing captions. If a station isn't doing captions it is because they are too cheap to buy the correct (CC) encoder for their DT.

It works here in the SE Michigan area.

It did not work for my Panasonic DST50 or 51 but CC works on the Samsung T150.
