Correct. WMTW has a translator on UHF channel 26. The antenna is on the Time and Temperature building in downtown Portland.

Thank you! Does this mean that somebody in, let's say, the Old Port, might receive WMTW-TV twice? On both channel 8 AND 26? Or...would their receiver only retain the stronger of the two signals into memory?

antenna/amplifier help

Getting WCSH-6 not very easy where we are. We have a channel master CM-3018 60 mile range antenna roof-mounted approximately 30 ft up. Channel Master CM-3414 4-port distribution amplifier, and a Channel Master 7777 pre-amp mounted just below the antenna. We have always had an issue bringing in WCSH and I think it's because CBS, NBC, ABC towers all pretty much line up one behind the other in relation to our house with CBS being closest. We don't have an issue bringing in CBS or ABC with signal strength up around 100% and signal quality above 80% pretty consistently. NBC signal strength is also up around 100% but signal quality is extremely low to non-existent. Without the pre-amp signal strength on NBC goes down to 30-50% but quality goes up to about 15-30% but still get a lot of pixelation and outages.

Wondering if the 7777 pre-amp is too strong? Should we try the 7778 pre-amp or are there other suggestions? Or should we just resign ourselves to not getting our daily dose of our favorite local news personalities and NBC Nightly News.

Yes, you might receive both. On my receivers in the Stroudwater section of Portland I get both and they show up as 8-1, 8-2, 8-3, and 8-4.

I get AntennaTV via WTIC-TV 61-2 of Hartford. I think Tribune owns that network, hence why WTIC-TV runs it (they're owned by Tribune).

Thanks for the update on Portland reception!

There's something I wanted to do while staying at a hotel in South Portland last month. The room's TV looks like I would've been able to attach a small indoor antenna to it. Provided that's IF the TV wasn't locked by management to receive their "cable" only (the Motel 6 I stayed at in Brattleboro, VT had the input part locked on their TVs).

Anyways, I wonder how far south the signal of WPFO-TV (FOX) channel 23 Waterville gets? I remember back in the day how WCBB-TV (PBS) channel 10 of Augusta never came in any better than weak color and snowy in Old Orchard Beach (lived there from 1985-87). Don't they use the same Litchfield site as WCBB does?

This is why when I go away, I take along a 7" TV...AND a medium size antenna! (much to the delight of my wife ) On our August trip to Newport, RI. I was amazed at the channels I got just from sticking the antenna in front of the 3rd floor west-facing hotel window! I actually got ch. 61 Hartford one night :-) [plus WFSB and WVIT]

I lived in York back in the 80's & 90's, and as I recall from the attic-installed VHF antenna I had, I used to get WCBB either all the time or at least quite frequently.

What kind of TV are we talking about? I'm already carting around a 15" laptop in my travel bag, whether I'm visiting Portland, Brattleboro, VT...anywhere, really.

Anyways...Is WMEA-TV (PBS) channel 26 of Biddeford still on the air? I assume if it is, it's only meant to fill those holes in York County where WCBB-TVmay not reach.

Could what happened with Sinclair and FOX in Tallahassee and now Chattanooga happen in say, Portland ME? Right now FOX is on WPFO 23.1, which doesn't really reach far southern Maine or the New Hampshire counties in the market. Sinclair could put FOX on WGME 13.2 and shift GetTV to 13.3. WPFO would have Grit on 23.1 and Comet TV on 23.2.

Coverage Maps:
WGME: http://www.rabbitears.info/contour.p...=1163014&map=Y
WPFO: http://www.rabbitears.info/contour.p...=1316507&map=Y

Or move their transmitter to the WGME-TV tower in Raymond? I seriously doubt THAT would ever happen!

I once lived in Old Orchard Beach, back between 1985 to 1987. I witnessed some of the first hours of WPXT-TV channel 51. The only time they'd come in right is when the wind wasn't blowing hard. No, I'm not kidding! For some reason wind used to severely impact that station. I was using an indoor Archer (Radio Shack) TV antenna. It may have been meant for VHF, since it was the classic style with the two telescoping rods. Channels 6 and 8 were fine. Channel 13 was decent. Channel 10 (Augusta) and 11 (Durham, NH) were always weak with snow and color drop outs at times.

I was in York in the 80's... and as I recall we couldn't get channel 51 at all. I had a UHF antenna on the roof (Radio Shack I think) and it did quite well. A different TV in the house was hooked up to cable...and I don't recall WPXT being part of the lineup. Many of the regional stations weren't carried on York cable back then. The only NH station they offered was 11... that was it. Neither 9, 21, 50 or 60 was represented. I remember when ch. 21 Concord signed on... and they became a CBS affiliate! I got that REALLY clear with the antenna. The cable got no Portland UHF's or 25, 56 or 68 from Boston either. That's why I had the other TV hooked to the antenna.

I figured maybe there was a small outage, but no ...

TWC MOVED CHANNELS AROUND AGAIN

NBC ABC FOX and their subs relocated to nonsensical numbers 15 19 etc.

Time to rescan several sets and relearn channel numbers

And can't call to complain because 99% of the staff have no idea - or pretend not to have any idea - what qam is.

Another site mentioned that a channel called American Sports Network is starting out in 10 markets shortly. The page I saw mentioned WGME-TV channel 13-3 of Portland. I have no idea if it's a Sinclair service or not.

Thanks for the info. It is OTA and I now have it on my TV.

Conference USA I think. but nice to have.

Even here in Bath, with an antenna in my attic I can get 15 OTA channels. Thinking of moving the antenna to a mast and should get a couple more.

FWIW In cumberland Center - I recently had to relocate an antenna to my attic after my rotor on the roof busted and I wasn't climbing up there to replace. I have no difference in channels. I even can pick up the independent channel out of Harpswell. That's a hoot.

What is the station in Harpswell? Also, is WMEA-TV (PBS) channel 26 of Biddeford still on the air? The last time I stayed in Portland, the hotel's cable carried WCBB-TV from Augusta.

14-1 is an independent station out of Harpswell. At different times I've stumbled across Nature-esque productions on ocean related topics, and a recording of the Harpswell variety show that was recorded at the Grange Hall. Its often off the air too, but it can suck you in when its on!

I'm grabbing the Augusta PBS stations. Its mapping to 10-1 through 10-4. I'm pretty sure Biddeford is still on the air too.

13.3 schedule

In case you are interested, this is the schedule of sports on 13.3 (American Sports Net)

http://americansportsnet.com/schedule/

It covers more than 3 months of upcoming games, but the first page is enough.
