I used that on occasion as well... as you've noted it's no longer an option since the direction keys now bring up "Recently Viewed" (up/down buttons) or the top menu (left/right buttons). The old method of navigating the guide via the directional keys was a MUCH more useful utilization of those keys, IMO.

I'm not sure I will ever have any use for the new Recently Viewed feature (seems like a poor excuse to show off all the pretty but useless graphics), and we really didn't need ANOTHER way to access the Top Menu (Menu or A buttons weren't enough?) that I never used anyway (I have my Harmony remotes Menu buttons set to directly access Settings). Not only that, now every time the box is turned on, I have to look at that useless menu for several seconds, and I have not found a way to defeat this "feature".

Meanwhile, the always aggravating bug remains that makes DVR playback stop and pop out to the menu if you use 3x or 4x FF near (but not all the way to) the end of a show, and they have not reinstated the ability (that was lost in ODN 7) to Rewind back into the show from that unwanted menu.

Discovered that if you disable the Recently Viewed feature in the Settings menu, the old guide navigation within the banner is restored...

Software upgrade to DVR!

Wow, what did TWC/Spectrum do? I turned on the TV the other day and noticed they must have done a software update that makes changing channels fast and smoother than before. It used to be the video would pop in and then out before settling down to view. The DVR seems to respond much faster too! Since I tuned around last they added more of the local HD2 and HD3 local stations.

Now the big question is, how much are they going to try to jack up my rate? I have a number in mind, if they go over it we will cut back to just internet service until either AT&T or Google gets their act together in my neighborhood.

AT&T has been pestering me to upgrade to U-Verse, but my wife and I don't want to lose our POTS (plain old telephone service). I had seriously thought about switching my internet over to TWC after getting hard-balled by AT&T's retention department.

At some point you may not have a choice. My sister was forced by them to move to Uverse as they were turning off POTs in her area.

They are getting out of the copper game. I was notified at work that in the next year all ISDN services will be terminated too.

That is NEWS to me! I thought POTS would never go away.

I live west of Charlotte in a urban area, but I don't think they have fiber optic lines in my neighborhood.

How does your sister like U-Verse internet?

Much to my surprise I checked my account at the TWC website and found that my triple play cable bill is going up but only by $10 a month "because I'm such a good customer" (well hey I do pay my bill on time!).

I'm torn though because a friend of mine has AT&T U-Verse on copper. He says the bandwidth is fine, he can have several things going at once with no lag, no buffering. AT&T would be cheaper for the next couple of years but I'm not sure it's worth all the bother of changing things over. The same friend who is on copper said AT&T is laying fiber down his street and making a mess of things. To their credit they are trying not to by even hand digging some of the trenching of the cable. He's not that far away, over in the Mint Hill area I believe. Still I don't see any action in my neighborhood. Fiber could end up all around me, just not in my area.

After some thought I am switching over to AT&T light Gig, they offered Gig for $70.00 a month with no caps on bandwidth and they have a 300Mbps for $50.00. Charter/TWC keeps going up on prices and I am a cord cutter with OTA and FTA for my video so I don't need their over priced video packages.

Good for you! Maybe they'll think twice before doing these automatic increases. A friend of mine told me this morning he keeps getting pestered by TWC to add Cable TV to his internet, he doesn't want it and he's happy with OTA. They also tried to raise the price of his internet and he told them to cut it off, he has a hot spot. They did and 3 days later called to ask what it would take to get him back, he told 'em give me the deal I had....two weeks later they caved and turned it back on. Gotta love that.

Who uses Holmes Underground Construction? They are digging and laying orange conduit on the next street from me. Could fiber be coming sooner than I thought? If so, is it AT&T or Google?

Has Turner Classic Movies been deleted from TWC?

Channel 25 is completely missing, and so is channel 631.

Anyone in Gaston County experience this?

EDIT: Just got word from a friend that TCM (25) is missing from their lineup too. The channel isn't just greyed out, it's completely gone.

No such luck. TWC raised my 200M/20M service by $15/month without warning. It's priced the same as AT&Ts 1G/1G and AT&T includes all equipment with that. Time to start thinking about changing over.

This is why I switched over, FYI when I called to disconnect from TWC they did not try to lower the price and just said I am sorry you are leaving and that was it.

They raised mine by $10 a month and I have 60/6 service. I will leave for a better deal, especially if it's faster!

What are your thoughts on AT&T Fiber? Did you have any issues with the equipment they provide?

No problems at all, on their Gateway Unit the 5Ghz band is giving me consistent 220-340 Mbps from 30' to 10' distances respectively. Wired direct is 800-960 Mbps depending on the device connected.

Install took longer because the poor tech could not use a 3M sled connector so I did it for him and took my time to show him how cleave properly.

Can Anyone Tell Me About This?

I was excited to see this on wikepedia. Anyone have any more information?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WVEB-LD

The broadcast tower is in Sedgefield (CLT). My rooftop antenna is pointed in the direction of the broadcast tower, but I don't pickup the signal.

(I rent a house that's situated uniquely: picture a soupbowl, with the house in the bottom (center) of the bowl, surrounded by houses and obstacles that are at the bowl's rim. In other words, my house is in a valley, surrounded by houses and apartments that are much higher than my house. Even with a rooftop antenna and a preamp, my reception is poor.)

In any event, I was excited to see that Cozi is broadcasting in CLT, with the hopes that they will upgrade their signal in the near future. Again, this is nothing more than a hope of mine...I have no inside info .

This would probably better discussed in the Charlotte, NC - OTA thread. Good luck... I can sympathize... I'm down in a natural hole that exists on the south side of Hwy 51 that makes OTA reception a challenge.

Thanks J Calabria, for pointing this out . I recently got a new laptop, and lost my old bookmarks. When I looked online for this forum, I evidently I bookmarked the wrong thread.

Bummer, I just read where Spectrum (TWC) is dropping their everyday low price internet plan. I was seriously thinking about dropping DSL and switching to TWC, but now I don't know what to do.

Are there any affordable Charlotte-area broadband plans for folks on limited incomes? If not, I may have to go offline.

Check out Earthlink's broadband options. In Charlotte, they're essentially reselling Spectrum/TWC's service. It may be cheaper.

According to : http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/C...oophole-139193 they are trying to kill that loophole where you could switch to earthlink as an existing customer and get it cheaper for awhile.

I never was able to get that deal working with switching back and forth, but I successfully talked Earthlink into extending my promo period for at least a year or two.

From what I can tell, Earthlink looks like it's not offering two levels of service anymore either. The only plan I see for my address is the 100Mb, but when I signed up years ago I was able to get a 50Mb option that was a good bit cheaper.
