The HD component to KING has been disrupted for about 2 months. An engineer at KING said they were preparing to bring KONG online and that HD would be off.
OK, that's 2 months ago. Now that awful Jules Verne program has returned in HD, but news is not. Still no KONG.
Anyone knows what is going on and when things will be back to normal?

I spoke to KING 5 about a month ago.

This will remain to be the case until later in May when they launch KONG.

Looks like it will be a few more weeks.

I just found KONG is on the air! 16-1 loud and clear. I'm still waiting for CH11 to get going. Their CE emailed me a month ago saying they were going to meet the 5/1 deadline. 7 days to go boys. Get cracking. BTW, my SIR-T150 says 5-1 is HD much of the time. Is this incorrect?

Are you sure its digital and not the analog signal. They are on the same tower as KING and I am getting KING's digital strong but not even a hint on 16 digital.

The SIR-T150 cannot receive analog - only digital. So if I get anything, it is digital. The channel display says 16-1 KONG-DT and 'HD'. It's still on as of 9:02PM.

By golly, I see it too. Channel 16-1. I live in Woodinville and the signal is EXTREMELY weak. I move my rotator and I can get it with many drop-outs so I can't determine its quality. But I do see the picture filling my screen so I assume 16X9. Oprah's mouth was out of sync with her voice.

The channel is there, but weak. Anyone else ????

according to http://100kwatts.tmi.net/tv/WA.html
KONG is 35kW while KING is 960 kW
Not surprising it barely gets over the pond...

Larry,

I live in Woodinville actually more toward Duvall. I have a Channel Master 4248 Yagi up about 10ft over the roof with a CM 7775 amp. I get all the Seattle stations with hardly any dropouts using a Zenith DTV1080. Channel 16-1 tonight had very many dropouts.

" I'm still waiting for CH11 to get going. Their CE emailed me a month ago saying they were going to meet the 5/1 deadline."

Yeah, that was the line they gave everyone before they filed for the extension - KSTW ain't going online until June-July, and that'll only be strong enough to cover Tacoma. They won't go full strength for all of Seattle until November, so be prepared to wait.

BTW, I live in the Kingsgate area, between Woodinville and Kirkland, and I get KONG perfectly (SIR-T150, cheap set-top UHF antenna), although they are broadcasting a 4:3 picture at 1080i, which of course makes my TV automatically go into widescreen mode stretching the picture.

I'm getting KONG-DT in Tacoma, but with a signal strength of 37 if I use the rotor to fine tune antenna position. I expect frequent dropouts if they don't increase their signal power.

Is Channel 11's tower on Capital Hill (Madison and 15th) along with 9 and 22? So to cover Tacoma would be a decent signal, eh?

Yes the UPN 11 in Seattle will be using a Tower in Captial Hill.

Their November tower will be there, but their current tower is in Tacoma, so that's where the June-July signal will be coming from

I get all the Seattle digitals in Marysville but absolute Zero signal for KONG 16-1. Was looking forward to a better PQ via OTA but if they are going to stay on with that low a signal, count us fringe area folks out. Not good for Sonic fans and advertisers.

Scott - too bad about KONG's weak signal. I expect they will get boosted at some point because 35kW is mighty weak. Perhaps a gigantic yagi could pull it in on a tall mast. Have you tried 22/25 tonight. I get a carrier and occasional picture flopping around between 25-1 and 25-2. It is giving my T150 fits. Once it tries to tune it the recvr goes nuts and wont tune other channels. i have to delete all channels and add them back manually. Some odd thing perhaps only on t150's? They must be playing with their second sub-channel.

I'm in Tacoma, North Shore - off of Brown's Point - and I'm getting KONG with T150 and Radio Shack double bowtie in the attic. I get all of the Seattle digitals without having to adjust the antenna. While the signal for KONG comes in fine, lip sync is a problem. Anyone else having this issue?

I'm really looking forward to UPN coming online, for Enterprise. With the bowtie pointing North towards Seattle, but UPN low-power coming from Tacoma, do you think I have a chance?

Seeing all of the news about KONG's finally going active, I rushed home to try (Shoreline NE175th-east of I-5). I have an RCA DTC-100 and UM1000a. The RCA never will lock a solid signal (30-40 with no picture and terribly broken sound). The UM locks immediately (no meter available on this thing).
I must say, the image was not to my expectations. Soft, bad contrast, and looked like an image with a (-) keystone on the top of the picture (like looking at a movie screen from the first row---bottom bigger than top).
During my comparison, I found 25-3, a FOX repeat of 18's signal. The RCA doesn't scan this one at all.
I'm not too concerned since so many have said weak signals and testing is the course right now.
I only ask for perfection!

PS Channel 9's signals seem back to normal for me as well.

Jolly1 - I'd say good chance if you already get all channels. Yes, I also see the audio out of sync on KONG, but it's not all the time. I also noticed that the signals on cable are moving more and more to the digital versions for their feed. There used to be a noticable 1-second delay between the analog on cable and the digital OTA using 2 TV's. Now, some channels are in-sync on both sets. You'd never notice if you didn't have 2 sets on at the same time. No - I don't watch 2 sets in the same room - I sometimes turn on my little set in the kitchen to listen to the news instead of blasting the audio in from the living room.

Signal strength for KONG is 93 on my Mits SR-HD5. they have the image stretched to fit. I have not noticed a lip sync problem.
