Strangely enough....today the temp rose a bit (~25F) and the signal strength increased! Maybe I am getting some icing in the coax at the antenna.

I called WHIO engineer James and he informed me that everything on their end was at 100%, so it must be my setup.

I realize that 7.1 could be better with the full allocation of bandwidth, but at least when they ran the weather channel (and occasional Dragon's games, etc), did you ever see how bad the picture quality was ? Especially for the weather, it was horrible. They were clearly taking away very little from 7.1.

People often complained when WHIO pre-empted primetime programming for random Flyers basketball games and would say to broadcast it on 7.2. Well, rest assured, there was a good reason that WHIO wouldn't do that !! I presume they could increase the bandwidth some for 7.2 and then dial it back down though.

WOTH-CA in Cincinnati has returned as WOTH-CD on RF 20/virtual 20. (Formerly they were analog channel 38.) They're currently testing their new digital transmission. Some initial reports have said that their signal is reaching as far north as Middletown and Oregonia, so if you can get (their sister station) WBQC or WDYC, you shouldn't have a problem getting WOTH. The final lineup hasn't been announced yet, but old movies are currently playing on their first sub channel during their testing period.

Happy DX'ing!

Keep in mind, WLWD-LD Dayton is co-channel with WOTH-CD on 20 ....

WOTH-CD being up has wiped out my reception of WLWD-LD, whose directional antenna pattern only squirts about 4 watts ERP in my direction ... I did get them solidly before WOTH was up though, with XG91 aimed right at WLWD only 12 miles away ...

When WLWD-LD (previously a TBN translator, don't recall callsign at moment) was analog, Its transmitter was near Springfield Ohio(39 miles from me - I still got it, but just barely), and being co-channel with a Cincinnati station wouldn't have been an issue for me --- But, they moved to the Dayton antenna farm with their Digital station, and I'm not sure how the interference studies/etc were handled for that regarding WLWD/WOTH co-channel and the "new" dayton antenna farm site .... ...

even with WLWD-LD DA Pattern, I personally really don't think it is a good idea for these stations to be co-channel, particularly given WOTH's signal should probably reach those with a good antenna in many parts of South Dayton area ... With WOTH-CD being Class A, personally I think WLWD-LD should have to move ....

Jeff

I'm not sure it's a waste of money. Sure, it costs money in terms of powering the transmitter, but without the -2 channel, I doubt they'd run -1 at lower power to save money. Putting a 2nd network will certainly cost them money too.

It would be nice to see something different on channel 2.2, though.

One big difference... 7.3 is in 4x3. Chanel 9.3 is in unwatchable "stretch-o-matic" 16x9

Does anyone have any word on when channel 22 plans to move to RF 18 from 51? The FCC approved their CP a while ago, but no word on the switch.
