Consistancy sounds like multi-path. How does 5 analog come in? I also have a dish 6000 with 8vsb. I was tweaking my antenna to try and get a better signal from cbs digital 3, the analog was better than I had ever seen it including way back when on cable. I had no signal at all from 3.1. I was mystified but, I had access to a panny tsu51 wich I plugged into the antenna and there was 3.1 better than ever. I thought perhaps the 8vsb had gone bad on just that one channel. I turned off the power to the dish 6000 (unplugged it.) I removed the 8vsb cartridge to look for something obvious, nothing. I reinstalled the card and powered up the dish 6000 (green light flashes, reset.) Did a scan for digital 3 and there it was at >80% I don't know why but it worked for me. No problems with NBC.

I have a similar problem in Evanston. Roof antenna. Every other ota digital channel and ota UHF channel comes in superbly. Only real problem is analog WBBM, with lots of ghosting. Digital WBBM is a dream.

Using DTC - 100. No idea even where to start looking for problems.

In one minute period, signal strength can go from 90+ to less than 40 down to zero. At same time other stations stay pegged in 80s and 90s. No weather related variables that I can figure out.

Tonight, no problem, was pegged for 5 minutes at 90 when I peeked at it.

vicneo, I'm in Justice (near 87th & Roberts Rd) and have a little RS 30db gain Antenna. I have yet to have any problems with 5.1DT.
Your problem, sounds to me like you had the antenna installed in the attic, which should be on the roof. I've been told that you can lose up to 50% of a signal through the attic.

Just today my 5-1 began to break up considerably, I was chalking it up to an antenna that had drifted due to the storms. The signal will just pixelize and drop sound, then resume. When checking the signal strength for drop-outs, it suprised me by holding steady at 100. If anyone is experiencing similar problems, please post them.

Yep, same problem next door in Mundelein, other channels fine, even WBBM-DT isn't bad tonight.

I called them (312-836-5555) and left a voice mail for Ken Jackson (I didn't feel like trying to find a live person to tell). So it's off to watch another station until they fix it.

Same thing here, solid signal on 5-1 but constant video and audio drops. Never have seen this happen before on 5-1. One of my most reliable dtv channels.

I was just going to post to see if anyone else was having trouble with 5.1 tonight...
All of my digital signals have been just fine, no breakup, and no audio dropouts --- that is until tonight. 5.1 is bad as is 11.1, but the others seem to be ok. Well I guess that it is reassuring that it is not just me

Very similar situation, regular frequent breakups, erratic pixelizations and sound drop outs began just recently. Also, signal strength measures in at 85-90. I will and we should contact NBC to report the situation. They say that there is no one watching. Perhaps no one has notified them of the problem?

I have also advised the following of the situation:

Trisha.Hockings@nbc.com
Ken.Jackson@nbc.com

Also having breakups in Orland Park.
Signal strength is as good as ever, but Video and Audio break up constantly. This is new. NBC 5 was never a problem before.
Leno special was not watchable.
All other digital channels are OK including WTTW with a very low signal strength, but no breakups.

I have the same problem with 5.1DT. I just installed a new antenna and thought it was the problem, but all other channels are fine. Signals are 90-100 across the board, but 5.1DT is terribly choppy, even though the signal is close to 100.

Located near 5900 S Pulaski.

I had sent an email to channel 5, and they responded that they are having transmitter problems, and they should have it fixed today...

My problem with NBC Ch. 5 in Chicago is the picture quality. When not in HD, the quality is by far worse than any other channel. It's especially noticeable on sports. The pixels are so coarse, golf balls look square. Basketball is almost unwatchable, in my opinion. It's much worse than cable.

Yes, the basketball is tough to watch at times especially during the "whole court" shots. Hopefully NBC will eventually raise their amount of HD NBA games.

Well, hopefully they will broadcast at least the Dallas Mav's home-games in HD. That place all ready has the equipment!

Come on Mark Cuban, do us this favor!!!

Thanks for fixing the transmitter, but why do stations feel that they can treat DTV views as second class citizens? Didn't someone in master control catch that the DTV transmitter was messed up? If they did don't they have staff that can fix it or does the person in the know only work during the day? I'm sure that if the NTSC transmitter had a problem it wouldn't take until the next day to get it corrected.

Yes I am beginning to notice that HDTV is like a 7th grade science project. No one seems to know what a broadcast standard is or what a professional is. It is very much like the "quality" service we receive from the "extreme fun" generation at Best Buy.
