Viewers in the Baltimore/Washington area can now tune into the Baltimore UPN affiliate on 41-2.

How about that? One day left to go before the deadline and they made it.

It's coming in with a signal strength on par with the other Baltimore affiliates out here in Laurel. Too bad they decided to mimic WBAL-DT with the ugly stretch and crop to a 14:9 picture.

My signal strength is a bit lower in Towson but that makes sense since I am so close to TV Hill. I'm getting a 64 on my DTC-100 for this low power station about 20 miles from me but I get an 82 for WUSA and WRC which are about 45 miles away.

I'm not getting it at all in Baltimore about 2-3 miles north of tower.

To avoid confusion, everyone should know that WUTB-DT is broadcasting from Catonsville, not TV Hill. They broadcast off the same tower as their analog equivalent.

ah, catonsville. well that probably has something to do with it, but I'm now receiving WMPT-DT 42 at a much stronger signal than normal. I can actually watch it without breakups. I hope that isnt interfering with WUTB 41.

I noticed the stronger signal on WMPT-DT also. Co-channel interference is definitely a problem with Digital TV, I can't get WJLA-DT on 39 when WJZ-DT is up on 38. I sent a message to the FCC about it and got a reply from a government drone saying nothing could be done about it.

I get nothing except "weak signal" message in Annapolis - other stations have pretty good signal strengths - 38 (81), 42 (87), 46 (52), 52 (82), 59 (79). I tried rotating the antenna. Maybe it's that extra distance to Catonsville? HNick

HNick,

Actually I think it's because they are at lower power, Catonsville and TV Hill are fairly equidistant from Annapolis.

One of the Engineers from the station's ownership group contacted me about my setup, I'm sure they will be interested that you can't receive it.

What type of Antenna are you using?

John_D,
I'm using a CM 4221 (4 bow-tie) in the attic (no pre-amp) on a CM rotator. Signal goes into a DTC-100. Could it be interference (as mentioned above) from the MPT antenna (which is about 7 miles away) that broadcasts ch 42? Thanks. HNick

I finally got around to looking for WUTB on channel 41. I can get it in Bowie at a level of 35-40 on a dtc-100. My signal levels on the regular Baltimore channels is about 80 - 95. Even at this low signal level the picture is pretty steady with only a few breakups.

The picture is rather pixelated. I assume they are running a low bit rate to keep the power requirements down. But what do I know.....

Thanks for the info. I first noticed that I was able to get WUTB-DT (24-1 remap) on Friday 5/3/03. However, I couldn't reliably pull it in unless I pointed my antenna in a slightly more southerly direction (from Northern Carroll County) from where I pull in WBAL-DT, WMAR-DT, WJZ-DT, and WBFF-DT from TV hill in Baltimore. Now I know why.

I don't even get a flicker of a signal on 42 out of Annapolis. However, I did get 42 out of Philly one warm evening a couple weeks back.
