from station website:

Effort to be the First Digital Station Back on Track

Early Sunday evening, an apparent electrical short caused a fire atop NewsChannel 11's approximately 800 foot tower antenna. No one was injured. Monday, the damaged antenna was removed from our tower.

KCBD General Manager Bill deTournillon says a replacement antenna is on it's way. In the meantime, there should be no visible interruption in programming to most of our viewers. The new antenna should be in place in about seven to ten days. The digital signal is expected to be on air by mid-June.

Let me ask a dumb question of the broadcasters here: What part of a metal tv antenna is flammable?

Looks like the part that burned was the fiberglass radome. It also looks like the antenna was an interesting combination of a channel 11 turnstile with a channel 43 slot radiator or similar design. That sort of combination is not trivial to construct and there is a whole lot of plumbing under the radome including some apparently flammable insulation which along with the fiberglass resins made for a toasty tower top.

You would hope that they would do some full-power testing prior to stomping on the gas on May 1st (the deadline.)
