Parameters haven't been issued yet on how the repacking would be done or the channels to be deleted. How can you have an auction, if you don't know what you are selling/bidding? Won't surprise me if the Sinclair suit isn't the only one. In theory, it could be hung up for years if the lawyers get involved.

Yea, another stellar transition like the last one I'm sure...

I hope they just forget about that repack as I like it the way it is now. Until they upgrade to ATSC 3.0.

Speaking of Congress, the reported total cost of this current senate race (hard money, soft money, in state, out of state, above the table, below the table) is $100 million. I can hardly watch the local news right now with all the ads. Are TV stations at least reaping a bonanza from this mess?

Yes. Even with the lowest price point on the rate card, as required by election laws. You can't refuse them. That is law too.

Not going to happen. Congress passed a law to do it. Congress smelled money and the rest is history.

I think that only applies to ads that are officially bought by a candidate's campaign, not to the many political ads that are bought by other groups.

According to the League of Women Voters web site, " broadcasters are responsible for selecting the broadcast material that airs on their stations, including non-candidate political advertisements. Each television station has the legal right and full discretion in deciding whether to run non-candidate advertisements."

http://www.lwv.org/content/backgroun...gn-advertising

Of course, the Supreme Court has been frequently changing the rules regarding campaign finance law and political advertising, so some of this may be outdated.

I was also under that belief as well. I checked with our sale department and they confirmed they can't refuse now.

For those of who either are from the eastern part of the state or have homes there, Skip Waters, Meteorologist for WCTI channel 12 has unexpected passed away of natural causes. He was 61. He was out of work on Monday and told his boss he would be back in Tuesday. He never made it.

Well, but to be realistic about it, how likely is it that anyone in sales would want to refuse advertising? I mean, TV stations all over the nation are running ads for all sorts of products of doubtful efficacy.

Well I hope you guys get big bonuses, and that there is a lot of booze at the company Christmas party. At least someone should benefit from this train wreck of an election. Lord knows it won't be the voters.

It's been three days since any paid political ads have been reported on any local screens.
I suppose we have survived this election cycle.
Any clues as to how many days left before the next cycle begins?

Technically it has already started. You won't see any ads until after first of the year at the earliest. After that, who knows? The political parties are just now trying to figure out what to do next. They are not in any position to run ads at this time.

60 years ago, WFMY was moving into its new facilities. Lots of room, studios and slide and film color capability. This was a great move for Triad television, except for the color, which was probably 10 years premature. And, eventually WFMY gave up billing itself as the "Pied Piper of the Piedmont". I think someone finally thought that slogan through..

I see that triad time warner has changed there website around. I also noticed that the Triad region will be getting the Navigator format sent down to there cable boxes. That would be great since I think the format we have now looks like something from the early 1990's. Depending on how the DVR's react after the Navigator change will let me to decide whether to keep the TWC DVR or go to a Tivo HD.
