I hate to see a local TV station go to Macon... but I understand how hard it is to sell advertising to make payroll/expenses.

MHZ WorldView is an excellent way to keep up with the news from different parts of the world. KUEN (Educational station) in Utah carries it on one sub-channel.
Seems a waste to only carry one SDTV channel though....MHZ has many different channels available 24/7. Also, operating as a non-profit, non-commercial, they could also carry BBC World, and numerous others. They could also carry audio-only channels of World Radio Network (WRN), and could still have bandwidth for "Educational" channels such as public education programs.

Yup... several sources cite the sale for $33 million.

I hope it doesn't mean much more than changing the name on the license - except I hope corporate will let 'em spend what they need to in order to go full HD all the time (news sets, gear, etc).

Sinclair is really starting to become the TV version of Clear Channel racking up a mess load of TV stations under one roof

By the way, anyone notice WMGT has a 3rd subchannel on 41.3 with the name "BCSD17"??

If they don't have it defined in the Virtual Channel table, but it is (technically) "Program Number 3", it would do that.
Might be a phantom channel, waiting for new programming....."COZI-TV" maybe?

Sony Bravia sees 40.3, maps it to 41.3, but says "No signal"

WMUM 29.1 OTA feed is missing off the channel list of my RCA DTV800 but the feed on my DirecTV is unaffected It's only showing GPB Kids and Knowledge.

I have also seem to be able to pick up WGXA-TV only at night with ION and TBN networks from Jacksonville with Indy/ThisTV WJXT, Columbus CBS, Tallahassee ABC, and Albany Fox.

Edit: It seems GPB 's WMUM 29.1 had a blackout and now 29.1 is restored.

I agree, but, locally, the situation is ironic: the former owners were considered "superpatriots", and now the news are broadcasted by Russians, among others.

I have been finding the channel popping up on 41.4, with nothing on 41.3.

As some others may have already found out, the call letters mean "Bibb County School District (Channel) 17", which is supposed to duplicate the local education programing of Cox Cable's Channel 17. As of yet, I only get a blank screen.

Back when I was at WCWB (before it was WMGT), it wasn't unusual for us to help out the other local entities....."scratch each others' back", so to speak.
I wonder if they loaned a spare encoder to the school system, and it came back with the name loaded in to it.
Or, maybe they bought a used one from the school board or from Cox.

If you don't know what I mean, try scanning the Atlanta radio stations with an HD Radio, and look at the display. Large station groups trade those encoders around all the time, and you'll often see some strange call letters pop up as the receiver goes from RDS to HD Radio lock. It's like a log book of the darn thing's travels.

Do you mean strange call letters on the HD or on the RDS? Because Clear Channel sends incorrect codes on purpose which causes the RDS call signs to be wrong on their stations.

I've seen them on both HD and RDS.
Why would they WANT to put the wrong info on?

I didn't quite understand the explanation, but it had something to do with making the traffic data service they offer through RDS work properly. Don't ask me how that makes any sense at all.

WGXA is now officially a Sinclair station.

Here's hoping there aren't any major changes (aside from letting them go HD for their local stuff)
