Hi folks. My main tv is a panasonic pt50lc13 which seems to HDTV ready, though it says HD1080 on the front. I guess it has no atsc tuner. I bought an hd antenna today, and it wouldn't work on that tv. It will, however, work on my little Coby TFT1212 in the kitchen, although the channel numbers are decimal.

So I assume I need a tuner for the Panasonic if I'm to use it with an antenna, but what kind? ATSC, I guess, but most of the tuners I see are described as digital to analog. The TV is 1080 capable and proclaims itself HDTV. I thought that meant digital, no? So I'm not sure if a digital to analog tuner is what I want.

Another possibility I'm considering is using an old macbook pro since I can connect via DVI to the TV and, I hope, use the macbook as a DVR, assuming some kind of solution from Elgato.

Though I wouldn't miss most of the programming on cable, I would miss the DVR. If anyone has other suggestions for this situation I'm all ears. Basically I want over-air broadcasts on the PT50LC13 and a DVR.

Thanks for any hints.

Your 2003-era set has an analog-only tuner.

Generally, if a set from that period was marketed as "HDTV-Ready", it required an HD source such as cable or satellite service and did not include the digital tuner, a rarity in that time period.

Thanks, you two. The help is much appreciated. Sorry, but I don't know how to move the thread, but maybe an admin will see this a move it. Also, I didn't know I'd had this thing so long. Surprising, considering how many times I had to have it repaired in its youth.
