If you are using the cable company clear QAM for the local channels they most likely do not provide all of the sub-channels. There is also no guarantee they are listed with the same numerals as when received over the air. I assume you are familiar with the Movie channel in question due to the use of an antenna at your previous residence. Yes, some remotes have a dash and others a dot, they are both used to access sub-channels.

Thank you for the response. I'm not at all familiar with the movie channel.
So you suggested I clear QAM. I don't kno how to do that. I looked around to see if there's something similar I don't see it.
Were you also saying that some people may not receive it at all or might be a different channel? Sorry not sure if im understanding. I still don't know how to get the channel.
Thanks again for your help

QAM is a method the cable company uses to send digital signals through their lines. When it is in the "clear" that means no cable box is required to decode the signal and one may tune the channel on any digital TV equipped with the proper type of tuner. That is how you are able to receive the local basic channels without a box. Sorry, I was not suggesting that you "clear" a setting in your menus.
Channel 27-2 is a digital subchannel that KDFI broadcasts in addition to their primary programming. The network that they put on 27-2 is a relatively new service called "Movies!" Reception of 27-2 would be available to anyone who can receive the primary KDFI signal with an antenna. You are not using an antenna, you are getting your signal from the cable company. The cable company may not carry the channel in question. They may carry it "in the clear" but it has been assigned a different number. I assume you have looked through all of the channels that you can get to see if any may be "Movies!" Finally, the cable company may carry this channel but you would have to pay them to use a cable box to receive it.

No I am in the North Texas area as well with Time Warner Cable (Arlington area) and 27.2 is KSTR HD on TWC as 27.2 on cable does translate into 27.2 OTA. TWC does not carry Movies! and I don't expect them to as they don't have Bounce TV which KDFI has had for a while now. 27.1 KDFI HD is carried but it is on 28.1 physical channel (28) but digitized if you manually tuned to it. I think TWC should have mapped 27.1 KDFI HD to 27.1 physical channel (27) make it easier on the TVs to get the channel name.

here is the TWC digital QAM listings for Dallas:

I am glad a member who is actually in the area contributed this useful information. I think the bottom line is that when one connects a TV directly to the cable outlet with no box, they are lucky to get anything and have to figure out on their own what channels are available and the numerical assignment. Although I am a diehard antenna user, I had to figure out "clear QAM cable" when my Mother was in a nursing home and make a chart for her. Many members of this forum believe this will not be a problem for long, as soon cable boxes will be required in all circumstances.
