It may be illogical to those of us who do not watch such broadcasting (full disclosure: I am a Born-Again Christian), but consider this: Christian (or religious of any belief) broadcasters are spreading a message that they believe is necessary to be heard. OTA Sub-channels are a (relatively) inexpensive way to reach viewers, especially low income folks.
It may be frustrating to see so many subchannels devoted to religious programming (especially to simulcasting), but they do not exist at the exclusion of other programming. It's supply and demand, a basic principle of America's predominant religion: Capitalism.

Weekend surprise: KLSV 50.3 has been restored after about a week of being off-air. Infomercials flow from the sub-channel. Jewelry TV is still missing from their 50.1 main channel.

Elsewhere:
KEEN 17.3 Worship remains missing
KEEN 17.7 Video1 remains missing
KVMY 21.2 Estrealla is missing; restored by 9 am
KNBX 31.3 Hot is sitting in the black, followed by frozen picture; fixed by 9 am
KNBX 31.4 Hot simulcast also sitting in the black, followed by frozen picture; fixed by 9 am

Las Vegas viewers could lose their feed of Retro on KGNG 47.4. The network owner, Luken, is said to have silenced their KU satellite feed of the network yesterday, leaving C-Band feed on-air. Some affiliates are not capable of receiving Retro via C-Band. This could also affect PBJ on KGNG 47.7, TUFF on KHMP 18.4, and possibly MyFamilyTV on KGNG 47.6. One Retro affiliate owner stated "this is a BIG nail in the Luken empire coffin".

Of course, the affiliates have only had 9 months of warning that the Ku feed was going away. I'm not sure how much warning they were looking for.

As far as I know, KGNG uses the C-band feed. No idea about KHMP.

I've been told that KGNG will switch over to C-Band on Monday, but that might cause a slight degradation in quality. Not sure about the situation at KHMP for their TUFF signal. I've also heard that Luken will wait to the first of the month to silence Ku feeds.

Luken's TUFF network via KHMP 18.4 is missing Monday morning. The local station, with a Mt Potosi transmitter, has had some issues keeping TUFF up and running lately, but the absence today could be because of delivery issues to the local station. Luken is cutting their Ku feeds of TUFF, Retro, and PBJ, and attempting to get local affiliates switched over to the C-Band systems. Could it be that KHMP is not yet C-Band capable? So TUFF luck to viewers of that network until issues get resolved. KGNG hopes to be switched to C-Band sometime today to continue providing Retro on their 47.4 and PBJ on their 47.7 sub-channels. If not, we may be Luken for other channels to watch.

Today is less than a great day for local over-the-air viewers. KHMP's four sub-channels are all experiencing hiccups on 18.1-4, providing anything but watchable service. KEEN's 17.3 and 17.7 continue to pump out no programming yet provide a PSIP. And KNBX History of Television sub-channels on 31.3 and 31.4 are sitting in the black today.

Last evening, Wednesday the 22nd, television stations around Nevada carried the expose/documentary Trafficked No More. In our Las Vegas Valley the program had good exposure. KSNV 3.1, KVVU 5.1, KLAS 8.1, KLVX 10.1, KTNV 13.1, KEEN `17.1, KNBX 31.2, and KGNG 47.8 all aired the 7:30 pm program. Sinclair's KVMY 21.1 and KVCW 33.1 opted to stick with regularly scheduled programming.

If you want to know what time it is while watching a Las Vegas station, don't trust the clock built-in to the individual station's PSIP. This morning these stations are displaying the wrong time and/or date info via their PSIP's: KINC-15, KHMP-18, KHDF-19, KLVD-23, KELV-27, KVPX-28, KEGS-30, KNBX-31, K41IO-41, and KGNG-47.

Rumors hint that KHMP-18 may go off air for a short while once the sale of that station is official. Daniel Jaquish has been a regular on-camera host at KHMP for some time, but will shift duties once KHMP does close on their stations' sale. He is expected to take over some of the daily operations at KGNG for Larry and Lisa Hunt at a new facility just south of Palace Station Casino.

Movies+ on KGNG 47.5 has added Law & Order SVU to their weeknight schedule. New to their weekend evening schedule are the animated series Family Guy and Futurama. These are orphaned programs from the now defunct KTUD-25. Office is also aired on Sunday evening.

Tuesday the 28th finds KEEN with their QVC service on 17.6 in the black (no signal), while their PSIP's for 17.3 Worship Videos and 17.7 Video-1 both gone. Both of the video sub-channels have been missing for weeks, yet the PSIP's were kept alive, until today

The SOI network on KBLR39.3 was yanked one year ago on January 26, 2013, yet KBLR keeps the :SOI" name in that 39.3 PSIP along with color bars and current SOI programming info. .

Sony's GET TV is set to have their official network launch on Monday Februray 3rd. Univision and Entravision are the launch partners for the English language service. Still no offical word from Entravisons KINC-15 or KELV-27 Las Vegas if either of our local stations will provide this network.

KHMP-18 seems to have had a change of heart, and are now laying plans to build their transmitter on Black Mountain rather than Arden. They currently are located high upon Mt Potosi making it difficult for many Las Vegas viewers to receive. I'm not sure if those plans have anything to do with today's on and off situation with TUFF on their 18.4.

Thursday evening finds KGNG 47.7 transmitting a very unreliable signal for their PBJ network service. They're still shooting blanks on their 47.7 alternate audio service. Their 47.6 My Family TV service seems to have the hiccups tonight. But KGNG may be doing better than KNBX 31.3 and 31.4. They lost their programming about 7:35 pm., but was restored about 8 pm.. Also, K43FO lost a good signal from the satellite around 9 pm causing inferior signals to radiate from their transmitter on 43.1, 43.3, 43.4, 43.5, 43.6, and 43.7. Proclaim on 43.2 remianed usable.

Keep an eye on digital channel 35.1. Mountain Ridge Holdings has received their coveted FCC license for KVTE channel 35, according to RabbitEars.info. Long silent channel 35 is slated to transmit on digital channel 35 with a display to channel 35 from the lofts of downtown, rather than the hills above Henderson. When the station was operating on analog channel 35, KVTE had some interesting programs that included local talk shows and old Vegas themed variety shows. Of course, any plan for programming of their digital operations is all speculative.

Around the dial mid-week, KNBX is having great difficulty keeping their HOT network functioning on 31.3 and 31.4. Long periods of blank screens or frozen images have plagued them this week. Even METV on KLAS 8.2 had issues earler that resulted in their server pumping out promo after promo when the network stream went south.

Jewelry TV disappeared from KLSV 50.1 several weeks ago unexplained. It now seems logical that the disappearance had something to do with the lack of a C-band receiving system at KLSV to receive the network signal for distribution in Vegas. This all transpired when Luken was shutting down their KU feeds of their networks, which also included RTV'. Fortunately, the RTV feed on KGNG 47.4 was quickly brought back to service with the proper dish equipment..

Jewelry TV was never offered on Ku by Luken, so any timing relationship was purely coincidental.

Not sure if this is related but Las Vegas made history last month as the facilities of KLSV were used during CES for the world's first 4K Ultra HD over-the-air broadcast. More information about the broadcast is below.

Biltmore's KLSV quietly silenced their sole remaining sub-channel (Infomercials on 50.3) about the 5th of January, and then brought it back to life about the 11th of January. So Biltmore had the potential of full use of their bandwidth for the CES demonstration of Ultra HD using their assigned channel 50 frequency. So now that the CES 2014 is history, will Biltmore return Jewelry TV to 50.1 or it's former home on 50.2, or leave Infomercials on 50.3 as their sole service?

Just curious if any other Vegas DirecTV users are having any issues with channel 3? I'm getting a lot of pixilating and what seems like signal drop almost every day ... some days worse than others. I recently moved and the new house has all new equiptment and has the same issues so I'm guessing it's Ch 3. Thanks.

In answer to the above post by VegasFlyby: I have notice a very small amount of pixelation of KSNV's three channels now and then. On a bedroom tv it's much worse as that feedline has been split several times.

Unrelated....I've just noticed that KGNG 47.4 is airing Las Vegas Buisness Today at 8 am, in place of the normal East Coast feed of RTV.

While TUFF is still off of KHMP 18.4, Cranston's KMCC has developed their own problems. At least for me, the KMCC 34.1 Mundo Fox programming is displaying to their 32.1 rf channel. The Cool, normally on 34.2, is no where to be found this evening.

The Lucken networks of TUFF (KHMP 18.4), Retro/RTV (KGNG 47.4), and PBJ (KGNG 47.7) are all showing freezing up, hiccups, pixelation, and otherwise an unstable stream for the two local stations.

Friday afternoon found Family Channel on KGNG 47.6 with a tone during several programs, then with the wrong audio, before it was resolved to normal sound.

KMCC has reverted back to their normal display channel of 34.1 for Mundo Fox and The Cool on 34.2.

The collection plates are cooling their coins as Son Life Broadcasting is in the dark today on both KVPX 28.1 and on KEGS 30.3 where they operate in stretch-a-vision.

There is some good news today, as TUFF seems to have solved their delivery issies to KHMP. That network resumed today on their usual 18.4 position. Looking much better than that past several days, RTV on KGNG 47.4, Family Channel on KGNG 47.6, and PBJ on KGNG 47.7 also seem 'issues resolved' status.

Waiting patiently for a signal on KVTE 35.1 now that they're licensed. It could be a long wait before that station lights their digital facilities, and with what programming source(s). Their analog transmitter has not, to my knowledge, been in the on position in many months.

Analog KGHD channel 6 shut down several months ago, while stating they were building out their digital facilities on rf channel 38. On air results for them could also be days, or months, away from completion. Could their former Franken Hispanic music on analog channel 6 return on a digital sub-channel, along with a selection of other diginets?

New on the Las Vegas ota tv dial today is Hispanic Infomercials on KNBX 31.3. This removes the simulcast of HOT, leaving that network solely on KNBX 31.4. That was at 4:30 pm. The 5 pm show was also in Spanish, but ID's as ONtv 4U.com. This network aired for a while in 2012 on KHDF 19.2.

Son Life Broadcasting is back up broadcasting today on KVPX 28.1 and KEGS 30.3.

KGNG 47.6 is sitting in black this afternoon instead of providing Family Channel.

The alternative audio, or SAP, on KGNG 47.7 and KHMP 18.3 are non-functioning, althought there's still a flag that service is available. There is however, some interesting Hispanic music on the 15.2 SAP of KINC. Is it a simulcast of one of the valley's Am or FM stations? KEGS 30.3 indicates a Spanish SAP present, but is only a tone, when I checked this afternoon. Finally, the SAP for KLSV 50.3 indicates a Spanish audio track available, but nothing is being broadcast.

I calculate that the Vegas Valley currently has 21 stations broadcasting 63 sub-channels, of which 42 are in English and 16 are in Spanish, while 6 are color bars or "For Lease" billboards.

Wanting a strong FCC to say no to the Wireless lobby. Keep the tv broadcast band for ota television broadcasters.

Back on 15 Oct 2013, post #9033, I was reporting that KLSV was airing Jewelry TV on thier 50.1 with a psip for "LATV Feed". I began to conjure up a possible move of LATV from KINC 15.2 to KLSV 50.1. That didn't happen. You may recall that LATV had aired on KLAS 8.2 from 19 Aug 2008 until 26 Aug 2011 when METV took over the 8.2 position the next day. KLSV 50.1 did air LATV for one day on 27 Jul 2011. Shortly after leaving KLAS, LATV showed up on KINC 15.2 on 27 Sep 2011, where it resides today..
