Friday evening observations: Major League Baseball on KVVU 5.2 this early evening in place of the normal 24/7 weather. KHMP 18.2 hiccups its' way through most programs. KHMP 18.3 has audio set so low that at full blast it barely produces a gopd listening level for the otherwise enjoyable tunes from this Atlanta Franken FM station (FM on analog channel 6 TV). KHMP 18.5 is once again frozen on that pesky "Not Found" graphic. KVPX 28.1 audio is quite low, while the simulcast is only slightly better on KEGS 30.3. KEGS 30.4 is now well into the second week of unwatchable video of HSN2 as it continues to fight with color bars. Someone put a fresh 9 volt battery in the KMCC-34 Henderson translator that serves the Vegas Valley. No signal from them in several months. K43FO 43.3 continues to pump out a signal but with no programming on that sub-channel.

What did I miss?

Fox decided earlier this week to show A Rod's last game tonight. Since Fox is carrying the Arizona Cardinals game your Fox affilite decided to put the game on a subchannel.
Here in Minneapolis we are getting the baseball on co-owned WFTC my29 (vikes game on KMSP Fox 9)

TUFF on KHMP 18.2 has finally toughened up and eliminated the strobe effect that has been a constant thorn in their signal for about 2 weeks. Even KHMP 18.5 seems to have cured their woes, for now.

KMCC-34 continues to be a licensed station without a signal reaching Vegas OTA. The last signal I received from their Henderson repeater was on 11 Apr 2016.

The angels are not smiling down on 3ABN's 7 subs on K43FO. Those channels are AWOL this Thursday.

KEGS 30.4, HSN2, appears to have had their problems fixed. Maybe not.

MBC-D, KGNG 47.9, is sitting on color bars.

It appears that KINC has added a 15.3 to their roster, but have it mis-identified as a second 15.2 with no name PSIP. Early Saturday I could not identify the new 15.2 as being MundoMax If that proves correct, then KINC may be simulcasting KMCC's Mundo Max service from 34.1, or taking the network feed directly.

In review:
rf 16 1 = 15.1 KINC Univision
rf 16,2 = 15.2 KINC LATV
rf 16.3 = 15.2 KINC // KMCC MundoMax
rf 15.1 = 27.1 KELV UniMax

KINC has in the past fired up an additional sub-channel for a day or two, seemingly for test purposes. From 10 Dec 2014 until 31 Dec 2014, KINC 15.3 was a temporary home for KELV's Unimax simulcast. I also recall a time when KMCC used a KLAS sub-channel designation as their own on Cox Cable,

One of my tv sets automatically picked up the 15.2 addition. I rescanned two other tv's with no whiff found of that sub-channel (using the same antenna).
An 8:30 am program on the new 15.2 bears the MundoMax logobug. The 9 am ID bore the channel 34 brand, suggesting KMCC-34. The 10 am ID indicated KMCC-34.

I rescanned a Panasonic DVR and it could not find the new 15.2, but did find a 16.2. That proved to be the same programming as 15.2 on another tv.

Thanks to jh92 for the heads up.

Saturday evening my main LG tv caught KMCC-34. However it wants to display it on the 32.1 rf channel, not the 34 virtual. No sign of the sub-channels. The second 15.2 remains in place, and now both it and the 32.1 are MundoMax.

Tuesday afternoon I noticed the four subs of KPVT-2 are missing. Mundo Max continues to air on some units as 32.1 or 15.2. On one of my units, this bumped LATV over to 16.2 from the usual 15.2 position on KINC. Perhaps ATSC 3.0 will standardize the virtual channel numbering better than ATSC 1.0 is doing.

Wednesday late morning finds that KMCC is gone from rf channel 32.1 on my LG. No sign of it on virtual 34.1, either. Those 9 volt transmitter batteries just don't last very long. A rescan on my Panasonic DVR finds KMCC still on 15.2 and LATV on 16.2. The four subs of KPVT-2 are still no where to be seen.

The two local stations belonging to Doctor Vince are showing signs of ailing health. His KPVT-2 has been down for several days, and now TUFF on KHMP 18.2 is off with colorbars replacement.

Elsewhere, HOT, on KNBX 31.4, is in and out of blank screens the past several days.

TUFF 18.2 is back. HSN2 KEGS 30.4 is missing. KMCC rf32 virtual 34 is still hiding. Life Hacks (18.5) was partially hidden behind a 'needs password' message. I entered my standard "1...2...3...4" and three neighbors garages doors opened, but didn't solve Life Hacks problem.

Do we really need three channels dedicated to BizTV in Vegas? Me thinks not. It's a 20% frame on both 2.1 and 18.1, while it is full frame on 2.2.

KVVU 5.2 has been getting some alternate programming lately. On Friday the usual 24/7 weather moves aside for several hours of E/I programming around noon. Last evening (Saturday), weather was absent while FOX UFC took its' place. Sunday morning other programming is in for benched 24/7 weather. I've also noticed that KVVU does not monitor their 24/7 weather feed often enough to keep all the dials and gizmos working properly. Nowhere is to be seen wind speed. A better display of the high and low recorded in the past 24 hours would seem logical, IMO.

Without a working TSReader, I can't be positive, but KMCC seems to be piggybacking a ride on KINC-15's signal. That would possibly explain why the signal has been reduced to SD. As mentioned before the service shows up on various channels on different brands of tv's. My little Sceptre displays KMCC as the first of two 15.2's. LATV occupies the second.

No surprise, but HOT (KNBX 31.4) is frozen Sunday morning.

All is quiet from KPVT-2 and KHMP-18 today.

Have we seen the last of GRACE on KEGS 30.1?

My main tv, a LG, captured KMCC-34 this evening on virtual 34.1. It's in 480i 4x3, but a shrunken 4x3 with borders on all four sides. There is no sub-channels of Que or The Cool. A bedroom Sceptre tv still has KMCC as one of the two 15.2 sub-channels of KINC. That tv does not see a virtual channel 34 or the rf channel 32 of KMCC. Probably some strange PSIP info causing confusion with various brands of monitors and DVD devices.

The nine subs of KPVT-2 and KHMP-18 returned to air sometime before 7 pm, this evening. KPVT 2.5 fired up with a new sub-channel dubbed "MOXIE, while 2.6, also new to us today, is "Oldie Goldie".

Kudos to KLAS-8 for offering two feeds, two perspectives, and two announce teams of the same SF game this evening. Looks like the CBS feed was at home on 8.1, while an alternate feed occupied 8.2 in place of the usual METV programming.

Two new subchannels

Not only has Channel 2 reappeared, it now has 2 new sub-channels, Moxie on 2.5 and OldieGoldie on 2.6.
Moxie looks interesting, a mix of "B" movies, where OldieGoldie is all black and white. Neither have EPG (yet?), and I can find no schedule for either - including on their web pages. Might be fun to monitor.

Both KPVT-2 and KHMP-18 are like KGNG-47, and none prefer to include data streams in the PSIP to allow viewers access to their schedule. I consider that a poor choice. As we get more and more viewing OTA choices, each sub-channel should utilize their data stream to publize what they are airing currently and what's next, etc., on their schedule. It's a very cheap method of publicity for each station and sub-channel.

Neither Moxie or Oldie Goldie in Atlanta have a schedule issued for Titan. I expect none to be posted here in Vegas.

Having watched some of each subs offerings, I'm coming down in favor of Oldie Goldie as a favorite of the two, based on first day programming. It looks like Moxie airs 50's to 80's flicks, while Oldie Goldie dips way back into the public domain vaults for movies from the 30's to 50's. Like the Rocky Jones feature aired last evening.

The down side to the addition to KPVT is that the audio is set quite low compared to most other Vegas OTA stations and subs. Gotta crank er up to hear everything, and crank er down if you change channels.

When I did a new channel scan on my LG, it didn't include 43.3. That's the empty sub-channel of 3ABN. Perhaps the angels have thrown in the towel.

The scan also didn't find KMCC on either 15.2 #2 , 16 32 or 34. Yet other tv's find the KMCC/MundoMax service on one of those sub-channels.

TUFF on KHMP 18.2 is having its' own kind of silent marathon this Labor Day weekend. They've been frozen on the Atomic Flashlight commercial for several days.

By Wednesday morning 9/6 RabbitEars.info had updated the offerings of Las Vegas OTA broadcasters.

KMCC and MundoMax must be the ugly step sister, as it's been bumped all over the dial the past two weeks. Yet today, it's no where to be found on any of my tuners.

The saga of KMCC continues. That station limped back onto several of my tuners sometime Thursday afternoon, this time as 32.1 (their actual rf assignment). Neither sub-channel returned.

Monday TUFF thawed from their frozen state on KHMP 18.2. Old School 87.7 is still stuck on the same graphic as it has been for several day.s Audio continues, but at very weak levels. Actually, several of the subs of KPVT-2 and KHMP-18 have serious audio level issues. They're too darn weak! I watched Naked Gun 33-1/3 on You Too, KPVT 2.3, Sunday evening. The audio was garbled, in addition to being weak. My LG tuner couldn't provide sufficient boost to the audio to get it up to comparable listening levels that I usually enjoy on other stations.

Football bumps some of the GET TV programming Saturday evening from KSNV 3.3

TUFF has frozen solid again for the second weekend in a row. KLSV-50 has lost their signal tonight on all four subs.

At least we have multiple channels of colorbars to view in Vegas and three "Lease Me" channels.

The four subs of KLSV-50 returned by Sunday evening.

It's Monday noon and TUFF is still in a frozen state on KHMP 18.2, and has now been joined by LifeHacks on 18.2. Further, BIZ TV on KPVT 2.2 is a "no signal". I did notice that the audio levels have been changed on several of the KPVT-2 sub-channels. This didn't affect the problem of starting one movie then switching to a second movie during commercial breaks, without completeing the first movie, as seen Sunday by several Vegas viewers.

Oldie Goldie KPVT 2.6 did air a very rare public domain episode of Johnny Carson's 1955-56 CBS Show, the other day.. Hopefully that will resurface again soon.

At the end of the dial, KLSV-50 is only offering Jewelry TV on their 50.1 main channel today. Missing is Revenue Frontier, Corner Store, and Liquidation Channel from their sub-channels.

I wouldn't mind seeing KPVT-2 or KHMP-18 add Z Living to their sub-channel fleet. Z Living is a rather small diginet similar to the old Live Well Network that was quite popular before owner Disney shuttered the operation. Also, it would be nice if AMG were returned to Vegas viewers somewhere on the dial.

There will be a National EAS test on 28 Sep 2016. All stations are expected to participate. Some viewers in other markets have mentioned their local stations have been doing EAS tests for no apparant reasons the past several days. This is probably to be certain their equipment is functioning correctly in advance of the national test.

Briefly this early afternoon, KSNV-3 was sitting in black on all three of their subs.

Antenna TV has mentioned they are considering launching a second service of retro themed programming. The fact that they have even mentioned it publicly suggests to me it's an almost certain happening. Just the timetable hasn't been publicly stated, or series titles. Because Antenna TV airs locally on a Sinclair/Stirk station (KHSV 21.4), it would seem logical that that same station could launch a new sub on 21.5 for the new service. Of course, it could also go to KVCW 33.4 or even KSNV 3.4, since those stations are under the Sinclair/Stirk thumb. All that is if the network does launch.

On Thursday, the winds may have been the cause of a lot of pixelation on KPVT's Moxie and Oldie Goldie. Lifehacks on KHMP 18.5 spent most of the day frozen on a computer error message.

Moxie, KPVT 2.5, has had an abundance of Smurf-o-vision colorization of the movies today. Too many of the titles are being presented in blue facial tone, sepia, and pale shades of orange. Very weird indeed. It is also repeating titles frequently just a couple of hours later, as is Oldie Goldie on KPVT 2.6. At 9 pm Saturday, Oldie Goldie was presently a film in emerald green and purple. Are these issue from being encoded to the server that way, or being played from the server in these strange color renditions. Perhaps Crayola should be a sponsor.

Moxie and Oldie Goldie continue to transmit in alternate color schemes today on KPVT. KHSV 21.4 has a severe fall flu, and is having trouble with the signal path somewhere between the satellite and the transmitter. Lots of 'no signal' messages.
