The FCC channel repack is about to begin. How will Las Vegas be affected? Very little. KBLR will move from rf channel 40 to rf channel 20, while K43FO will shift from rf channel 43 to rf channel 36. No other changes are anticipated. However KGNG is firing up their rf channel 26 soon.

Almavision on KEGS 30.2 switched from colorbars to a Dish error message today.

And then back to colorbars Sunday evening.

Either someone mixed up my meds with LSD this morning, or KPVT 2.5 and 2.6 are airing their programming in alternative colors again.

The four shopping channels of KLSV-50 are off as of about noon today. Could this be in prep for the NAB?

Thousands of attendees are headed to Vegas for next weeks National Association of Broadcasters Convention. It would be nice if our local tv broadcasters put their best faces on for the event. No frozen images, and no alternate color schemes, please.

The four subs of KLSV, the three subs of KMCC and the Alma service on KEGS 30.2 are all stuck in I-15 traffic and not getting to their respective transmitters. HOT, KNBX 31.4, has stuttered most of the week, making enjoying a show nearly impossible.

Speaking of color schemes, I notice that a glitch switching to a field reporter on the KTNV Wednesday 11pm news resulted in the same lime and lavender colors as usually seen on KPVT 2.5 and 2.6. I'll have to consult with an engineer about what causes that.

Maybe the National Association of Broadcasters want OTA to be crappy, since its very apparent that most of them are not serious about OTA.

What a perfect city to hold a convention where most of the OTA channels are screwed up in one way or another.

KLSV is once again hosting an ATSC 3.0 test for the NAB. They will be broadcasting an ODFM signal until April 28, then return to their normal shopping experience.

Edit: Here is a link to their application with the FCC: https://enterpriseefiling.fcc.gov/da...y/cdbs/2004353

The WALK, KNBX 31.5, can also be included among those missing going into the weekend.

The big bosses at Sinclair Broadcast Group made a terrible decision to deprive Las Vegas viewers of the quality programming of GET TV, formerly on KSNV 3.3. In the shake up that occurred the beginning of March, GET was yanked out from under Vegas viewers with no advance warnings, and we were given the very marginal content of Charge a network owned by Sinclair. That diginet is acceptable, at best. If overnight infomercials are your thing, then Charge may be for you. Also in the Sinclair Shakeup was the placement of a joke of a network called TBD on KVCW 33.3. The content of this network could be boiled down to a 30 minute syndicated series, just like Right This Minute. The Facebook page for TBD receives very few praises but much more complaints. So bad are the comments section on the TBD page that Sinclair ordered the removal of negative comments, like they were some Communist censor protecting their network. Not only has Sinclair removed most of the negative comments, but they have stooped to banning certain viewers from posting on their page. That's really a good way to promote your network, Sinclair. It's unlikely that Sinclair could pull their head out of the ass long enough to understand that Vegas viewers don't prefer TBD or Charge over the quality programming of GET TV. So I don;t expect that Sinclair would sheepishly grin and restore GET TV to Vegas dials anytime soon.

KINC-15 is owned by Entravision, which is a major affiliate partner of GET TV in many other markets. Entravision could bring GET back to Vegas and place it on their possible 15.3 sub-channel or even on their 27.2 sub-channel, even though that would put it on a LPTV station in the latter case.

Vegas deserves, and demands, the restoration of GET TV in this market.

Agreed, but will the Mexicans really want to put a Cowboy/Gringo network on their transmitters?

As stated, Entravision is already airing GET TV on some of their transmitters in other markets. These include Boston, Washington DC, Tampa, Denver, and Orlando.

In other breaking news: Yeah, KPVT 2.6 is again in lime and lavendar. KVPX 28.1 is now among the missing. And here's something different. At 11:30 am Sunday morning I spotted that KHDF 19.1 and 19.3 are offering different programming. KHDF 19.3 is airing Azteca network, while 19.1 is airing a Larry King infomercial in English. The problem is that most OTA viewers won't find 19.3 on their dial as the PSIP for the station has been problemtaic for several years. Most tuners are blind to 19.2, 19.3, and 19.4.

Another local station is now missing. That's K41IIO, the Enlace affiliate. It joins Alma on KEGS 30.2; the four shopping channels of KLSV-50 (temp assigned to ATSC 3.0 testing for NAB); Walk on KNBX 31.5; and the three subs of KMCC-34.

HSN2, KEGS 30.4, isn't sure if it wants to come out and play in the sun today. The network fluctuates between color bars and programming. Elsewhere just before 11 am, KNBX 31.2, .3, .4, and .5 are all scrolling an "Error" message where you'd expect NOAH Weather Alerts. Strange that it's not affecting 31.1

Wednesday 8:45 pm edit: Beep, beep. Better get Mako. The Mako engineer is working late into the evening tinkering with their three Vegas properties. KVPX has added a 28.2 sub with a PSIP of "Shop TV" It indicated 480i 16x9. The color bars on KEGS 30.5 is now labeld with a PSIP as "Shop TV" and is 480i 4x3. New to KNBX are colorbars on both 31.6 and 31.7. These are 480i and 4x3. Perhaps programming will show up by the first of the month. By my count, that brings the Vegas total to 25 stations producing 88 channels of material. Yes, for lease signs and color bars count as material.

I'm underwhelmed at the latest additions to our local dial. KVPX 28.2 and KEGS 30.5 are simulcasting the same infomercial. Other simulcasts, or duplications include: KPVT 2.4 and KHMP 18.4 Shop TV; KVPX 28.1 and KEGS 30.3 SBN; KPVT 2.1 and KHMP 18.2 Guide; KPVT 2.2 and KPVT 2.1 and KHMP 18.2 BIZ; KHDF 19.1 and 19.2 AZTECA; KLVD 23.1 and 23.2 DAY; and KMCC 34.2 and 34.3 HEARTLAND.

Now that NAB begins to wind down and all the technical engineers check their flights for home, KGNG may begin testing their channel 26 transmitter. I have suggested they program their server with a marathon of 26 Men for the 26 trans evaluation. I doubt King Kong will follow through, however.

Forgot which channels, but one has only the right channel sound working and the other only the left side working.

The people running the OTA channels in Vegas are real geniuses.

KLSV-50 was a star of the NAB, offering a live demo of ATSC 3.0 capabilities. Virtually no one outside of the convention could view the demo for the lack of converters. With the convention in the history books, KLSV-50 returned to the old ATSC 1.0 transmissions about noon today. Perhaps by next year ATSC 3.0 converters will be available when the station may once again offering a demo to convention goers. Kudos to Biltmore and their KLSV LPTV station.
