Yea, IF you use an OTA antenna...considering that CC now has to pay most OTA broadcasters for those same signals, why would they then NOT want to charge you, for using them to supply those signals???
Why bother encrypting those channels?
Move everyone to a cable box and give them access to rentals through Comcast or something?
Don't really see any financial incentive on Comcasts side.
There's actually several incentives f/CC to do this:
- stop internet-only &/or phone-only subs from stealing ANY TV service, and w/out having to send a tech to change different types of traps on the pole
- make ALL TV service level changes from their office, w/out having to send techs out to downgrade/upgrade subs to/from levels below standard basic
- since EVERYTHING is now encrypted, they are no longer sending techs out to disconnect drops from non-paying subs; consequently, they don't have to send techs out to reconnect drops for new subs
- when a customer moves into a pre-wired home w/CC service, they can just go to the local office, pickup their equipment, take it home & activate it...all w/out a tech visit
