Connecticut - Frontier TV

Frontier Communications purchased the Connecticut assets (SNET) of AT&T and is now providing the video service as "Frontier TV" as of October 24, 2014. The service covers both the New York, NY DMA (Fairfield County) and Hartford, CT DMA (rest of the state).

Effective with the closing of the proposed transaction, Frontier will carry the same channel lineup as AT&T Connecticut (approximately 800 channels) with the exception of the following low viewership channels (listed in alphabetical order):

· aapka Colors (channel 3712)
· beIN Sports (channels 662 and 3120 and 1662, and 3320 in HD) and beIN Sports Espanol (channels 663 and 3119, and 1663 and 3319 in HD),
· Comcast SportsNet Bay Area HD (channel 1770), Comcast SportsNet California HD (channel 1767) and Comcast SportsNet Chicago HD (channel 1741)
· EPIX 2 (channel 893 and 1893 in HD), EPIX Drive In (channel 896) and EPIX West (channel 892 and 1892 in HD)
· Liquidation Channel (channels 399 and 1399)
· Longhorn Network (channel 611 and 1611 in HD)
· MTV India (channel 3709)
· RFD TV (channel 568)
· Time Warner Cable Sportsnet HD (channel 1777)
· TVBe (channel 3638) and TVB-V (channel 3664)

Also, as a result of the above changes, Frontier will also be reducing the price of the S Asian TV package from $35 to $30 per month, and eliminating the Vietnamese TV Package (current subscribers to this package will be moved to the SBTN package at $15 per month from $20 per month).

So far the service is a big disappointment for me. Lost the guide and DVR service the first few days of the month. I did finely get a hold of a service tech that said they were having sync issues and it would come back eventually. On demand is another story. The worst problem is losing all the streaming of ATT Uverse on line streaming service, Stars Play, Showtime Anytime and Encore Play (and I assume HBO Go but I don't have HBO so wouldn't know) as Frontier doesn't have any login option. Frontiers TV Anywhere as far as I can tell is useless so far from my attempts to use it. Hope they can get their act together and at least get the logins for the premium channels available as TV Anywhere does say coming soon for some of them.

A rep knocked on my door today with info. Not a hard sell. Gave me a lineup card. We didn't talk about prices. I can't seem to find a price listing for their TV service on line. U200 looks good for me but no prices provided. Have Cox but would like to compare.
Users, how is the video quality?

Video quality is on par with Cox (at least the last time I had Cox). Dish was better but they all suck on my 110" screen compared to BR but on the 60" plasma the picture is good enough. Price with Uverse was very reasonable if I renegotiated every year when my renewal came up, otherwise it would shoot up to be equal with Cox. Frontier has had the service for less than a month so don't know what pricing new subscribers will get. About $120 a month gets me the U300 service and 18mb internet. Note that only 3HD and 1 SD channel can be recorded or watched at the same time for the whole house so if you have 4 or more people watching you may run into conflicts.

Internet

I keep getting ads from Frontier about their internet. Based on a family member I know they had a somewhat bad transition. I think when the smoke clears I will check their internet / phone package. One price I saw was $4 more than I pay Cox now for just internet. I do have phone service with Frontier already.

They added the Hallmark channels made my wife happy. On-demand free and premium completely sucks compared to Uverse. Internet tested slower in some tests, I always got 18mb+ now best test was 12mb and worst was 1mb. Netflex is much slower now also. So far I think we got screwed on this deal.

Frontier has a bad track record with everything they do. They just buy up assets that AT&T & Verizon don't want then run them into the ground.

Since my landline is now with Frontier I get ads from them promoting phone, TV, and internet at a good price. What is interesting to me is they are offering Dish as the TV supplier, even though I'm in a "Uverse" area. It makes me wonder if they are going to try to add new customers to the existing system or not.

Could any Frontier TV subscribers chime in on whether they have QAM/clear channels for the locals and/or analog SD channels for the basic cable channels? For those who aren't tech savvy, what I'm asking is, if you plug the coax cable from the wall into an HDTV and/or regular TV, can you receive any channels, or do you need a box in every room to get any channel at all?

I've been trying to find out info on this for months. If anyone who has Frontier TV could go and check, I know just about everyone uses cable boxes or DVR's but I would greatly appreciate if someone could take the time to plug the cable in directly and check. I've got a lot of friends and acquaintances in the area who are wondering the same thing as well. Any help or info would be hugely appreciated.

I know some people might just want to jump back with "QAM is dead", "FCC ruling.." etc etc, but let's not go there. I had QAM for locals and analog SD for basic cable up until just a few months ago, and there's several people I know in MA and elsewhere who still have QAM working fine currently, so there's no need to completely close the door. Thanks a ton in advance to anyone who can share some info or shed some light on this provider, thanks again, take care.

No QAM, Frontier (Uverse) is IPTV so it needs a box on every TV.
