Sorry, Tom. Ratings and $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ rule in TV land. That's why the networks pay HUGE bucks to get football. http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/201...umbers/300043/

There is absolutely no artifacting, no pixilation during dissolves, nor weird shimmers and compression artifacts around the score banner. It's as perfect an HD picture as I can ever remember seeing (and they run a MeTV subchannel too).
After watching the "poo" from WTHR during the first half of tonight's Colts game, I switched over to WLWT, Cincinnati (a good steady signal OTA tonight). WLWT's PQ is so much better, with virtually none of the issues we see on WTHR. I can't believe WTHR allows this mess to go on and on year after year. BTW, WLWT airs a MeTV subchannel too, like the Richmond station.

The PQ has been perfect here in Richmond tonight. Just like the Colts.

Oh wait...

The Richmond NBC station is also having a dispute with DirecTV. They've apparently worked out a deal to only play NFL and local news programming on D* until the dispute is resolved.

Any update?

It's been very quiet recently concerning WISH and the loss of CBS. Does anyone have any news or update about this?

Has WISH thrown in the towel? The picture quality of today's NFL games, as well as the Thursday night game, have all been terrible. Lots of pixillation and compression artifacts fill the screen with any kind of fast motion, and this is watching OTA. It's worse than WTHR.

Anyone else noticing this?

The picture on Fox 59 has been great, which gives me hope for when WTTV takes the CBS reigns in a few months.

So, it begins. They are beginning to desert the ship.

As I've said before, I feel for the personnel still working there. It can't be a happy place right now. I do hope things go well for them.

I agree; Went through the 'fall' of Guide Lamp in Anderson; not a pleasant thing to experience. Like a patient lying on their death-bed, wondering if the nurse will bother to change their IV....I feel for those that served viewers all these years, now to soon be forgotten.

My son was an engineer at Visteon in Bedford, IN. He stayed there until the very end. It was sad.
At least there will still be a CBS-TV Station in Indiana.
Ford fuel senders are now being assembled in Mexico.

It may be a coincidence. But, I've noticed WISH is now running ads asking people to apply for positions at this station. Could this be they just happen to be posting jobs? Or, are behind-the-scenes personnel now starting to move on to other areas since CBS has yanked their association with the station on 1/1/15? Or, maybe a combination of the two. It would be interesting to know.

FWIW, while camping at Shakamak State Park just west of Jasonville, IN (SSE of Terre Haute), I had an antenna setup to see what I could receive OTA. I used two 4-bay antennas ganged together (side-by-side to make an 8-bay) for UHF, a simple little dipole (rabbit ears) for VHF, with both plugged into a Channel Master 7778 pre-amp. The towers for Terre Haute's three stations were only 10 miles distant in Farmersburg, IN, so they were very strong. The Indy antenna farm towers were all around 75 miles, with WTHR's tower at 77 miles.

As the sun set Monday evening and signal enhancement began to rise, WTTK 29 (550,000 kW) was the first station to decode. The UHF antenna was sitting on a picnic table @ 7 ft. above ground level. Actually, it was the only Indy station that decoded that evening. The next morning, with the antennas raised to around 14 ft. above ground level, I was able to receive WTHR 13 via the little dipole. I was surprised that such a simple tiny antenna would pick it up at 77 miles. Later that morning I was able to receive WEHT 7 (virtual ch. 25), Evansville @ 92 miles and WNIN 9 (virtual also ch. 9), Evansville @ 82 miles via the dipole antenna. The best distance decode that morning was from the UHF array with WSEC 15 (virtual ch. 14), Jacksonville, IL @ 153 miles.

Definitely yes. I've noticed WISH's channels are often distorted, pixellated, etc. I just finally switched to an HD tv from an old CRT, and I thought that was the problem. But every other channel is fine.

I was watching the Colts game on WISH and then later The Good Wife - every 10 or 20 seconds the picture will break up in a portion of the screen. It's impossible to miss it - has anyone else seen this OTA? The Directv feed was OK but had much more subtle glitches as well (not noticeable unless you watched for it).

I was getting frame freezing constantly throughout the game although the audio stayed constant w/ OTA. Dish feed was fine though. Pretty pathetic.

I didn't watch the game. But, with network, or live programming, I have no problems with pixelation or other distortions. I'm in the LaFayette area and I am using an antenna (OTA) feed.

Using the snapshot feature of a Hauppauge WinTV/aero-m DTV tuner (OTA) via the USB port on my laptop computer, I've posted pics from today's college football games from WTHR and WISH. The pics were taken during fast-motion scenes. The first two pics from WTHR and the second two pics from WISH. Fast-motion pixelation is much worse on WTHR.

You should email Al at WTHR. There's a link to 'engineering' on WTHR's "contact us" link.

IndyJeff, good idea but it wouldn't serve any purpose since we've been discussing the same issue for years. Apparently viewers in this area enjoy watching blocks of pixels on the screen (snapshot via Hauppauge tuner from last night's game attached), as you and I seem to be the only ones that don't enjoy it. Since Notre Dame football and SNF are the only programs I ever watch from NBC it's only an issue for a few hours a week this time of year. And because last night's SNF game was so boring (how many times did Eli get sacked??) I didn't watch much of it.

BTW, did you catch any of the "Notre Dame Football Review" on WHMB in HD last night? If not, it was an edited replay of Saturday's NBC telecast of the UNC/Notre Dame game. It was interesting that many parts of the game on WHMB looked better than the live broadcast on WTHR Saturday. The fast dissolve of the NBC logo going into and out of replays did not look out of focus and blurry like it does on WTHR. Nice job, WHMB!
