Actually, it's not as bad as you would think it would be.

Anyone know why KDKA doesn't seem to provide PSIP anymore, I'm using a Channel Master PAL DVR and no info shows up anymore for them in the guide. WTAE seems to be very spotty too with their PSIP. Used to be those 2 stations had their info for the guide a week into the future.

Can you elaborate on what exactly you're not seeing in WTAE PSIP information?

It appears that WBGN has been sold, for $7 million dollars to OTA BROADCASTING of Virginia. The sale includes all 10 of WBGN's affiliate stations. One of those stations,WJPW in Weirton,West Virginia, has already shut off its transmitter, after only 3 months of broadcasting. The sale should be final in a couple of months.

OTA Broadcasting is one of the spectrum speculators buying up stations as this article notes:

Apparently at 5:47 AM this morning (6-12-13), KDKA CBS 2 has developed the same disease its sister station (WPCW CW 19) had a while back. Everything is "jagged" looking. Hopefully, it doesn't take the engineers at the main channel as long as it took to fix WPCW. It was that way for months before they finally fixed it.

WIIC-LP still licensed on 29 in Pittsburgh. I have no info if they're still on the air.

Yes. Channel 11 signed on as WIIC, then owned by the Post-Gazette and affiliated with WWSW radio.

On KDKA's 11pm news, for the past week or so there's been an annoying low frequency rumble whenever they activate Jeff Verszyla's microphone. It goes away as soon as they kill the mic. I try to run my surround system to as flat a response as possible, and this is the only time this happens. Has anyone else noticed this?

yes I remember when the used they saying the Eyes Of Pittsburgh! Do you remember back in 1966 or 67 when they had their new RCA transmitting tower installed? There were helicopters hovering the north side for a couple of weeks. it was to bring on the NBC full color network . Their promo was "With Tower Power" Does anyone have the tower power slide that they used? Wpxi is a hell of a station from Kays Kitchen to Studio Wrestling and Chiller Theatre. Good job all you guys at channel 11.

FYI-

Something is wrong on channel 19, problem has been going on for a number of days that I know of.

The entire channel, at least during the 10pm news and Nightly Sports Call, (and all commercials), is displaying its content as something I can only describe as dramatically oversharpened. All words, letters, edges of people's faces etc are all showing EXTREMELY harsh sharpening.

The best way I describe this -- the words (regardless of a news ticker or words during a commercial) are so oversharpened that they look like an 9-bit old dot-matrix printer printed them onto the screen. In fact, if you look at the words closely, they are made up of tiny round dots, just like the old dot matrix printer letters. But the entire image has this problem, not just words.

No other channels (including not KDKA, which is the party that does the 10pm ch 19 news) has this problem. Just ch 19. It's so bad that it is hard to watch.

I'm seeing the same thing on The Closer via Atlantic Broadband as well as OTA from the WPCW RF 27 repeater on Laurel Mountain.
What a most interesting and annoying effect

WPCW's news and Nightly Sports Call (the only locally produced shows) have had that unpleasant "oversharpened" look ever since I went OTA several years ago. Haven't watched the channel in weeks but that seems to describe the phenomenon I've seen for years now. I just always assumed it was something with upconverting standard definition equipment for HD. I could be wrong though...

I recently caved and got DirecTV so my OTA viewing has definitely been reduced. Today was the first tinkering I've done in months and noticed that FINALLY we have WBGN in Greensburg on CH 59. Nice to see this has finally been sorted out and Greensburg, at least temporarily according to the FCC filings, can receive WBGN and it's subchannels for the first time in years. I'm actually kind of excited to get back the RTV subchannel since WPXI dropped it in 2011 even though it's miles behind the quality of Me-TV.

I saw what you are describing last week on KDKA as well. I am not receiving the OTA. I am getting the service thru Armstrong. They get their signal from Comcast's Master Headend on Corliss street via fiber, which gets KDKA's broadcast signal via fiber from the station in Gateway Center. It was annoying, and I was changing channels to see if it was a KD issue, or an Armstrong issue. It must have been a KD issue because it wasn't happening on the other channels. It also appears to be resolved.
