Antenna (55.3) is also still not available for Comcast subscribers yet either, at least here in Springfield--unless I haven't stumbled across it yet in the digital hinterlands.

I'm wondering if they are still "testing" this thing out, because unfortunately, it appears they have never notified Tribune Media Services of this addition, since there is NO guide data for this (new) subchannel yet...which means there is also NO guide data for my Tivo to work with!
Luckily, I can at least look at the guide data on 59.2 out of Peoria, that does come thru on my Tivo...but then I have to set all manual recordings on 55.3.

They did officially say Ant TV was coming 1/1/16, so maybe they're waiting until then to finish things up...I tried calling the prog director at WRSP (WICS) but didn't get a return call.

Does anyone on this board who lives in the Springfield area still get the Sunday State Journal-Register home delivered? (Right now I'm only an E-edition user--I used to get home delivery before my local carrier's route became so unreliable and the paper almost NEVER came before leaving for work at 7:30--and even with the press plant's move to Peoria it was still supposed to be delivered as promised by 6AM barring weather or emergencies). If so, what's your opinion on their new "TV Times" magazine, which debuted locally 2 weeks ago to only home delivery subscribers (but not included in papers sold in stores, gas stations, etc.)?

Listings-wise, how superior of a product (other than having at least 100 channels, primarily cable) is it compared to their old Sunday insert. (IMO it had seen better days and far better for the area than the old TVG Eastern IL edition locally, as the SJR TV insert once also included Peoria and Quincy station listings, and maybe 13 in Mt. Vernon for a time during their WCEE-TV days, in addition to S/D/C and St. Louis. And in their evening grids for a short time in the early 2000s they actually carried KTVO-3 Kirksville, MO, almost 15 years after their Colony, MO 2000-foot tower collapse which might have even given the western fringes of the SJR area their only chance of seeing the station regularly amid WCIA and tropo interference!).

The SJ-R's fellow publication in Peoria, the Journal Star, switched to the TV Times format today, so last weekend was the end of at least a 60-year tradition of a TV insert being included in the Saturday paper.

Paper-listings...who uses those anymore??? EPG listings are going to be more updated (with last-min schedule changes) than any paper listing would be. And, unless you're a non-DVR OTA-only viewer, you always have an updated EPG at your fingertips...& even at that, most stations provide a basic EPG that goes out at least a day or so, which most HDTV's & analog converter boxes offer.
And the thing about this "improved TV-guide"...they also increased the cost of the Sunday papers to cover it (they DID state this when they introduced the new guide) - frankly IMHO it's BS; why should everyone pay for something SO outdated, just so a tiny minority don't have to move into this century.

If you are a Comcast sub, you have listings at your fingertips on ALL Comcast boxes, now that the DTA's have an EPG.
Of course, all satellite & U-verse subs have EPG's on ALL boxes.
If you have any type of OTA-only DVR, you'll have an EPG there as well.

Oh BTW, WRSP finally came through with an EPG on Antenna TV...all set now to prog my Tivo for the Johnny Carson reruns starting this Friday.
(and no Tim, it's NOT up on Comcast yet...)

Nor is it on 27.3 yet, as of today. Gocom needs to get their act together.

I've been wondering about the availability of Antenna TV channel. According to the Antenna TV website, the channel is available over the air on 27/55, and TBD on Comcast. Is the channel not yet available over the air? I hope it will be available soon on Comcast. I am excited about seeing the old Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.

Well according to promos I just saw this weekend on (either) WRSP or WICS, they specifically said "on 55.3" ONLY...agree it makes NO sense why it wouldn't be on 27.3 by now...obviously I have no way of checking WCCU's OTA signal here.

55.3 is live with Antenna TV using OTA. Windows Media Center has no guide data for it. I just verified it is showing Family Ties right now.

I've been busy with school work, so I haven't had the chance to check recently.

Edit: Still no AntennaTV on 27.3 as of yesterday (1-21). Yesterday at around 5 PM, WAND (RF-17) and WBUI came in. Has WAND recently increased their power output or something? I've been seeing a lot more of them lately than I used to. That said, there was clearly some signal enhancement going on, since WBUI came in and I got a partial decode on RF-39, probably WAWV.

I emailed the chief engineer for WRSP/WCCU today asking why Antenna TV was only on WRSP.

Quote:
Antenna TV was not originally supposed to launch on WCCU. However, our corporate office has changed that and we do plan to launch it in the next few weeks. You might want to check with Mediacom on how quickly they plan to clear the channel once we launch.

Also while I was looking around the Comcast guide, I also noticed these 3 new Spanish HD channels; for some reason, I couldn't remember if these were already existing or not...but after seeing a post today in the Comcast Chicago thread, I know it wasn't my imagination after all. (that they ARE, in fact, newly added)

673 BeIN Sports Espanol
674 ESPN Deportes
671 Fox Deportes

No mention of these launching that I have seen...wonder if this is a sign that CC might actually start adding more (english) linear HD channels, to even remotely keep up with ANY of the other TV providers in 2016??? Now that all of the non-local HD is now in MPEG4, the bandwidth excuse just doesn't hold water anymore...

434, until about a couple years or so ago, used to be the duplicate channel for the Weatherscan channel, at least in Springfield (in addition to cable channel 17).

And in a market the size of S/D/C with few subchannels, I don't understand why Comcast can't put all of the subchannels on 2-digit channel positions, rather than sprinkled in the 3-digit digital neverland. Perhaps on some of the vacant spots between 72 (TVLand) and 98 (Public Access--used to have Comcast Chicago Plus/IHSA network programming but has had NOTHING but a test pattern the last few years, it seems. If nothing is planned for it in the future I think that "channel" needs to be dropped or replaced). Same with WEIU's main signal too--unless they go off the air due to the incentive auction and/or the onging IL budget stalemate and no university funding. (Maybe that could go on 98 or something rather than 189).

Speaking of Comcast Channel 98 in Springfield--right about the time I posted my last reply, low and behold there is ACTUALLY non-test pattern programming on channel 98. The on-screen channel logo shows "Tele5" which is a German-language station (unless CC is showing a completely different Tele5):

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tele_5

Also, has anyone stumbled across Comcast channel 17 (Weatherscan) in the last few days? Hopefully I'm not reading too much into this but I find it interesting that the "Weather Channel" logo on the upper left-hand corner of the screen on that channel is now missing. Anyone know if there might be something up with The Weather Channel's operation of the local Weatherscan service, unless I am indeed reading too much into the lack of a TWC logo on the channel?

Looks like both WCIA and WCIX are temporarily off the air for technical difficulties since about 5:30 this evening--no signal on either station at least OTA and on Comcast here in Springfield. Also before both stations went down, WCIA's coverage of the golf tournament on CBS kept cutting out and messed-up picture around 5.

It was interesting that Dish only broadcast the notice that they were aware the channel was down and not to call them about it on the SD feed. The HD feed just showed a yellow screen!

Thank you much for posting this...I wondered why my OTA Tivo didn't get the 6PM "60 min", & missed the first segment of the 7PM one last night!

Interesting that it was off even on Comcast, since they get a direct feed from WCIA. (or at least they used to)
That sounds like something happened back at their studios.

I've been seeing something like this on a couple shows I Tivo'd in the past month...& I know my OTA signal from my antenna is NOT the problem.

Just posted this on the Peoria thread, since their Nexstar-owned WMBD will be adding Laff and Escape as subchannels this September (31.3 and 31.4, order TBD), according to Steve Tarter at the Journal-Star: http://www.pjstar.com/news/20160617/...-peoria?page=2

The question here: Will Nexstar be bringing at least one of these subchannel networks to WCIA/WCIX around the same time (as 3.3/3.4 Champaign, 49.3/49.4 Springfield). I always thought the WCIA/WCIX simulcast in each side of the market was the reason why Nexstar didn't add Bounce TV in our market as it did in Peoria (on WMBD-31.2). Or do you think that things will stay as is here and no new 3/49 subchannels?

I'm surprised with repacking looming that any station--let alone WMBD (virtual 31, RF 30 and thus affected by the latest FCC proposal to sell channels 30-51 for spectrum) is considering adding any new subchannels at this time.

I hadn't reached the minimum number of posts to put the link in the previous post, but here is the article with details from Nexstar's argreement with Katz for Bounce, Laff, Escape, & Grit.

Last I heard we will be broadcasting Bounce, Grit, Escape, and Laff. Not sure of the specific channel allocations yet.

Regarding the outage on May 22: One of the ancient Ameren power transformers that provides 3-phase power to our studio blew its fuse. We had to wait on Ameren to come and replace it. A few days later we pulled an overnight so they could replace all three transformers with new ones.

And will simulcasts of WCIA and WCIX on 49.2 Springfield and 3.2 Champaign, respectively, continue even with this move? Hopefully no repeat, even with digital, of what happened during 2002-2009 on analog after the then-WCFN changed from a WCIA repeater on analog 49 in Springfield to a standalone UPN (then later MyNet), making it difficult for Springfield viewers relying on OTA to receiver CBS programming.

Has anyone visited RabbitEars.Info for the Champaign/Decatur/Springfield market station listings lately? If so, have any of you noticed the several listings marked in pink and depicted as "off the air," which includes potential construction permits? And have you noticed one for a "WEEJ-LD" licensed to Jacksonville on virtual 13/physical 49--the exact reverse of WCIX? It's one of those licenses held by "DTV America."

http://www.rabbitears.info/market.php (Listed as Market #89)

Then the other question: Has Nexstar ever bought LD stations in other markets? And if so, were those licenses once held by DTV America? Not to be nosy--just curious as that "WEEJ-LD" seems interesting.

FCC Facility details for WEEJ with contour maps (under "Facility Technical Data"): https://enterpriseefiling.fcc.gov/da...ilityId=188753

On the above site, take a look at the application submitted Feb. 24, 2016--it shows the transmitter for WEEJ between Springfield and Rochester along Route 29: https://enterpriseefiling.fcc.gov/da...531553dd12136b

In light of the recent netlet agreement involving Nexstar (which will affect WCIA/WCIX), any possibility that Nexstar might attempt to buy or operate that WEEJ-LD license from DTV America? (unless LD stations will be subject to the spectrum auction/repacking). And this happens in Springfield:
13.1--WCIX (My--"X13")
13.2/13.3 (two of either Bounce, Grit, Escape, or Laff)
49.1--WEEJ-LD (CBS via WCIA) (Maybe change the calls to WCFN-LD if that's available, or something else that begins with "WCI-").
49.2/49.3 (the remaining two netlets not picked up by WCIX)

Then do something similar in Champaign with one of the DTV America licenses there, and this time make the LD there a repeater of WCIX.

FCC facilities search results for Champaign (including 3 DTV America CP's): https://enterpriseefiling.fcc.gov/da...chResults.html

We are simply using .3 and .4 (3.3, 3.4, 49.3, 49.4) for the new subchannels, everything else stays the same.

Which means two of the new subchannels will only be seen OTA in Champaign, the other two only in Springfield.

While on the subject of the recent Nexstar subchannel announcement and its effects locally on WCIA/WCIX, does anyone know the true story why Comcast only carries WCIX on cable channel 19 on their Springfield/Decatur headend? (Channel 49 has always been aired on cable 19 here since ending the WCIA simulcast in favor of standalone UPN in 2002). While ironically, Champaign and Danville sees WCIX on cable channel 3 while WCIA is on cable 4--a carryover from the analog OTA/cable days and ghosting.

With Comcast channel 9 still vacant in Springfield/Decatur as WGN America was pulled from that channel (and only on channel 115) in late 2014, wouldn't it be a no-brainer to put WCIX on that channel in their Springfield system? Alongside all but one of our market's main stations (WICS on 2, WCIA 3, WBUI 6, WRSP 7, WSEC 8, WAND 10, and WILL 12--while WEIU is on digital but on channel 189). Or better yet, move QVC from 13 to 9, then move WCIX to 13 (leaving cable channel 19 vacant) to match its OTA physical channel.
