Has KTIV's signal been reduced or redirected?

For the last month or so KTIV has been difficult to receive in Sioux Falls. Have they reduced or redirected their broadcast?

KTIV has been rock solid for years and I still receive 14.[1-2].

KWSD is back on the air. I'm getting RetroTV on two subchannels of 36 tonight.

Yes, I noticed KWSD scanned in Sunday. They identify as 36.[4-5] instead of 36.[1-2] and still broadcast no EPG. I believe all digital stations are required to broadcast an EPG. The good news is they no longer lock my scan.

Perhaps this explains what happened to KCPO as they claimed to be the Sioux Falls RetroTV affiliate. RetroTV's site still lists KCPO. To my knowledge, KCPO is not broadcasting and I've heard from no one that KCPO can be received.

Sioux Falls is probably getting Ion soon as a sub on KELO

Media General has been adding Ion as a sub in markets where there is no Ion yet including Quad Cities and Green Bay

That's good news.

As a follow-up to recent KWSD posts ... It appears KWSD broadcast only from 10/25/15-10/28/15. It disappeared from my scan on 10/29/15. That seems strange even by KWSD standards.

However, the same week KWSD broadcast a short-lived signal, I began receiving KCPO. KCPO should be on analog 26 but I receive it on analog 42. I wonder if the KWSD/KCPO situation had anything to do with which is the Sioux Falls RetroTV affiliate? KCPO reported in the spring it was going digital and becoming the affiliate. It's currently listed as such on the RetroTV site. However, that apparently hasn't happened.

KWSD's brief return to the air may have just been a legal requirement to save the license. By federal law, they would have lost their license if they had not returned to the air by Nov. 21. There is no requirement that they stay on the air permanently, however.

Channel 42 is where KWSD sister station KAUN-LP is licensed. KCPO-LP is still licensed for channel 26. Perhaps what you saw was KAUN-LP and not KCPO-LP?

Comet TV officially launched on Halloween this year, and KMEG will soon be broadcasting it on 14.3
Comet TV is set up as a Science Fiction network, the style of their lineup is reminiscent of the early days of the Sci-Fi channel. (Back when they aired a lot of science fiction & fantasy and weren't making a lot of original programming.)
It looks like a lot of their starting lineup is Stargate programs.

I first saw KMEG listed here as one of the affiliates: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...ffiliates#Iowa

KMEG has yet to start broadcasting on 14.3, but it appears that they're set to start in December.

I got confirmation of this change from Siouxland News on Facebook.

That makes sense. Of course I never understood how KWSD could keep their license as their signal was defective and they didn't follow regulations.

But I'm still confused about KCPO. Last night on 42, a crawl advertised 26 and "Mystery Science Theater." The pitch was to petition cable operaors to carry 26. I receive 42 but not 26. Again I ask, can anyone receive 26? Are they broadcasting at very low power?

That's interesting and probably explains why "This" no longer airs "Stargate" or "The Outer Limits" on Sunday nights. Both are listed as regular Comet programs.

Mystery Science Theater.... is that RetroTV they're advertising? I've been wanting to get that channel.
They do list KCPO 26.3 Sioux Falls
as an affiliate. I think its out of my range for me to even try and get that one.

Yes, RetroTV airs "Mystery Science Theater." That's KCPO's push to be carried on cable on their crawl.

Maybe KCPO is moving to the channel 42 transmitter. They can set the PSIP to 26 once it is converted to digital.
Analog 26 has been silent since the end of March. The antenna is located on the water tower by Sanford hospital. Even from a block away, I can't receive anything.

Problem is, neither KCPO-LP nor KAUN-LP has actually applied to convert to digital. Both are currently authorized only for analog broadcasting.

Thank you. I've been trying to get that confirmation for months. I didn't know if the problem was on my end. The Argus includes KCPO 26 in its listings. I've written them but will try again.

That makes their crawl message even stranger. I assumed they have a license but haven't begun digital broadcasting. The Argus article last spring implied their conversion was imminent.

I'm quite certain KWSD aired RetroTV programming during its short-lived return. So, RetroTV lists KCPO as its affiliate, even though KCPO isn't digital and KWSD is also an affiliate?

Back in March, when KCPO announced that they were converting to digital, there was a FCC mandate in effect which required all LPTV stations to convert by Sep 1, 2015. In April, that mandate was suspended, so there is no pressure for them to convert now.

Right now, 42 is showing RetroTV, but they had KCPO programs last night.

That explains a lot. However, it suggests analog stations might cease with a new mandate. Although I ditched subscription television with the advent of DTV and no more ghosting, I do enjoy also seeing an analog signal. Oh well, I'm sure there are people with bigger problems.

What RetroTV programming was KCPO showing? As I compose this they seem to be airing non-RetroTV programming and television listings don't show RetroTV programs. I'd also like to see "Mystery Science Theater."

A bit off topic, but speaking of MST3K, did you see the new kickstarter project released today?

It appears KCPO has switched to RetroTV on channel 42. I noticed it late Friday night and have seen nothing but RetroTV since. Unfortunately, their signal is uncertain as I checked multiple times yesterday only to find a still image. The image did have the RetroTV identification in the lower-right corner but a still image isn't exactly television.

Assuming they get their signal constant, "Mystery Science Theater" is back. That's good news.

From Northpine.com:

KELO-TV (Sioux Falls) has added ION on channel 11.3, joining the growing list of Media General stations carrying ION on a subchannel. KELO is a primary CBS affiliate and also carries syndicated programming and MyNetworkTV on 11.2. ION is not being carried on KELO satellites KDLO (Watertown) or KPLO (Reliance-Pierre), but KELO Vice-President and General Manager Jay Huizenga says they do plan to add it on a subchannel of KCLO (Rapid City). KCLO is a semi-satellite of KELO's main channel, carrying separate syndicated programming in some time slots.

KMEG in Sioux City has begun broadcasting Comet on 14.3.

And I'm not receiving a signal from channel 42 in Sioux Falls. I reported channel 42 had begun full-time RetroTV programming last week but their signal is far from reliable.

KDLT will begin airing AntennaTV on 46.2 01/01/16. I don't know whether they'll continue broadcasting Cozi.

KCPO/KWSD spectrum auction?

I know the recent spectrum auction is not public, but is there any word on whether KCPO or KWSD participated?

My guess is KWSD did, but as KCPO hasn't broadcast for some time, might they have as well?

KCPO-LP, as a low-power TV station, is not eligible to participate.

In any case, only an application deadline passed on January 12, and that was not a commitment deadline. The commitment deadline to actually once and for all participate in the auction is in March.

Channel 42 has again begun broadcasting RetroTV. I assume it's KCPO and the signal appears more dependable than a month or so ago. Time will tell.

KCPO is now apparently broadcasting on channel 44. After broadcasting RetroTV on channel 42 for about a week, they switched to their old programming. Occasionally a crawl runs suggesting viewers contact their cable provider to carry RetroTV.

Yes, I'm getting that too. Channel 44 is KCWS-LP, owned by JF Broadcasting, same as KAUN-LP.

Incorrect OTA EPG time.

Channels 20[1-4] have broadcast an OTA EPG time about six minutes slow since last fall. I've written four times and phoned twice. It doesn't seem unreasonable to expect the correct time. Two questions:

1 ) What equipment determines the time?

2 ) Is there any reasonable explanation that they can't correct their time? I've never received a response to the problem.

An update ... Pioneer has corrected their time on channels 20.[1-4]. It took a long time, but all's well that ends well.
