Speaking of the so-called Reality TV trend, CBS's Big Brother will be finally shown in HD at last on June 25th making the last commercial network primetime program to convert to HD, while daytime game-show Let's Make a Deal will telecast it's first HD episode in September 2014 making the last commercial network television program ever to convert to HD which means a new era has beun...Then CBS will be 100% HD just like rivals ABC, NBC, FOX, and The CW. And CBS has already aired its last new SD programming in May 2014 (I think) just like ABC aired its last new B&W commercial programming (the game show Everybody's Talking) on December 29, 1967 despite the big 3 going color by September 1967.

Folks in Charleston, SC had you ever recorded network TV shows, network newscasts, syndicated shows, or local news from WCBD 2 (then ABC, now NBC), WCIV 4 (then NBC, now ABC), WCSC 5 (CBS), WITV 7 (SCETV/PBS), and WTAT 24 (then Independent, now FOX) on outdated VHS tapes between 1978-1990?

If so for those recorded VHS tapes of WCIV 4 from between 1979-87, did they have the 4 Leads logo that still used the NBC Trapezoid N logo from 1976-79 or the Proud N logo from 1979-86, or the current NBC logo since May 12, 1986 or no NBC logo on channel 4 logo? I know that WCIV used the Trapezoid NBC logo after 1979 as late as Fall 1987 on the periodicals of Charleston, SC newspapers before it was removed from Google Newspaper Archives last April.

I've seen a pre-1989 footage of WCIV 4 newscast with Frank O. Hunt from 1978-79 which has the 1978-87 WCIV logo on the set and WIS-TV's Ed Carter was at the station at the same time. That was before Swanson and Crosby (then Earley) came along in 1981.

Of course I've seen all Big 3 station specials on Hurricane Hugo from 1989 on YouTube since Hugo hit the Lowcountry on 9/21/1989.

Here in Greenwood, SC (about 162 miles from Lowcountry Television towers) I've picked up digital DXing (Tropo) of WCSC 5 from my indoor antenna twice, and on my outdoor antenna I've picked up WTAT 24 (which they didn't have HD syndicated programs in HD, instead in crude SD, I don't know if they still show it in SD?), and WCIV 4? I've picked up every big 4 Charleston, SC TV station OTA via DXing except WCBD 2 aka The Rob Fowler Station. That was two years ago.

WCBD RF is 50 (2.1), WCIV RF is 34 (4.1), WCSC RF is 47 (5.1) and WTAT RF is 24 (24.1). I haven't picked up WITV 7.1 (RF 7) nor WMMP 36.1 (RF 36) via DXing.

WTAT to get getTV on a subchannel soon:

http://www.tvtechnology.com/news/008...tations/271009

Please note that the station is question is WTAT, NOT WCHS in West Virginia. Boy, Sinclair is such a "stations blob!" (But at least getTV now has 33 more affiliates!)

UPDATE:

I'm glad that ABC News 4 aka WCIV is still alive and on the air as of today. Which means you can still watch Dean Stephens, Victoria Hansen, and Dave Williams at 6, 7, and 11pm every night while Scott Eisberg (who replaced John Nugent after his nasty DUI arrest last year) does sports at 6 and 11pm only. You can still see Jon Bruce, Tessa Spencer and Tom Crawford on Good Morning Charleston as well and other familiar WCIV faces of today.

What a relief for the Lowcountry!

Are WTAT 24.1 (FOX) and WMMP 36.1 (MyNetworkTV) still showing HD syndicated shows in crummy 4x3 SD or finally went true 16x9 HD? I'm just wandering for viewers in The Lowcountry. Here in Greenville, SC DMA WTAT and WMMP's sister stations (as of now) WLOS and WMYA are broadcasting true 16x9 HD syndicated programming (except on WMYA when they show now-defunct Judge Alex in 4x3 SD instead of 16x9 HD because they don't have HD recorders to record his feed). Too bad they don't have Brown Mackie College nor 1-800-588-2300 EMPIRE TODAY carpet commercials in Charleston like we have and adjacent Columbia, SC. I know that they got Virginia College and ECPI in Charleston, SC too which the latter I saw on WTAT 24 via Tropo DXing two years ago here in Greenwood, SC (162 miles from the towers in Awendaw with the antenna pointing at 119 or 120 degrees at around 11pm while showing How I Met Your Mother rerun not in HD like WHNS in GSP does). If WTAT and WMMP don't have HD syndicated ability, I feel sorry for those in the Lowcountry wanted to see syndicated shows from Jerry Springer to Maury to Paternity Court to Family Feud in HD.

I hope everybody's staying safe from Hurricane Arthur....But unfortunately, the North Carolina Outerbanks will be hit the most.

Question cable unscrambled channels COMCAST

Hi all....

Just moved back to Summerville. This time I ordered Comcast (price mainly, just wanted a cable modem w/ decent speed).

Anyway, none of my TV's digital tuners are picking up any channels w/o the Comcast box! (except the HD channels via QAM)

1. WHAT IS COMCAST DOING WITH THEIR SIGNAL SO THAT I CAN'T GET THE REGULAR "basic" CHANNELS VIA MY TV TUNERS?!
(I used to have Time Warner years ago and this wasn't a problem in Summerville - anyone know if you can still do this w/ TW up on Cane Bay?)

2. I NEED TO MAP MY QAM CHANNELS ON WINDOWS MEDIA CENTER. CAN ONE OF YOU GENTS PLEASE POST THE LIST OR PROVIDE A LINK TO SAVE ME SOME DIGGING?

many thanks in advance!
Kevin

I think the cable company in Summerville, SC is Time Warner Cable. Comcast is for North Charleston and Charleston areas.

Had WMMP aka MyTV Charleston added GetTV on 36.2 yet? I know sister station WMYA 40 here in the Upstate SC added it recently to replace The Cool TV (which disappeared recently)

Yes, we have Comcast Xfinity up in Cane Bay. Summerville address, but not in city limits. In Cane Bay, you can get Comcast, TW or Home Telecom as your TV/internet provider. (Comcast and TW will soon be merging nationally).

Time Warner

Ok, apparently Comcast made a switch in 2012 so that you can no longer get the 'basic' non-HD channels w/ your TV digital tuner. And I am finding the HD stuff via QAM is crap/pixelated.

Cancelling Comcast after less than 1 week.

TIME WARNER - can anyone confirm if you can still get all the basic channels AND QAM channels w/o the need for a box from TW?

thanks, Kevin

Get TV is on WTAT 24-2. I saw it last night. It's been up though for at least a week.

Sorry I don't know about QAM, I'm not a cable subscriber. On markets, I know that Charleston, SC is #95 in the Nielsen's 210 DMA list with 326,760 TV households, while adjacent markets like Myrtle Beach, SC (formerly a short market) #102 with 292,080 TV households, while capitol city of Columbia, SC #77 TV households is 407,140. The largest DMA market in the South Carolina goes out to Greenville, SC #37 and the TV households is much better 849,340 and Greenville, SC is the state's largest Metropolitan area as of last year despite Columbia, SC is the largest city in the state.

It Appears WCIV Will Go Dark

The FCC has approved the sale of Albritton Communications (owner of WCIV) to Sinclair Broadcast Group (owner of WMMP and via a "sidecar" deal, WTAT). Since ownership of WCIV would put Sinclair over the limit in Charleston as a part of the FCC approval process, Sinclair will surrender the license of WCIV. For more info on the entire deal, see the link below. To see just the specifics of how this affects WCIV, see page 4, line item 11 at the same link:

http://www.fcc.gov/document/allbritt...on-group-inc-0

Here's a good summary of the Albritton-Sinclair deal, if you don't want to muddle through the FCC document:

The END of an ERA?

Losing ABC News 4 WCIV is like a death in the family.
The Lowcountry might lose a beloved TV station that was NBC from 10/23/1962 inception until it switch to ABC on 8/19/1996. Viewers will be in mourning!

WCIV ABC News 4 is STILL ON THE AIR as of now! WCIV reporter Nikki Gaskins told me she doesn't believe that WCIV is going off the air from her FB.

But for WCSC Live 5 they're not lucky...WCSC's parent company Raycom Media are in a possible Retransmission Consent dispute with DirecTV! Last year Raycom blackout their stations (including WCSC) from rival DISH Network for 9 days until they reach a new agreement. Retransmission Consent has been a taboo topic in TV in recent years with record 127 blackouts last year. Recently Senators Thune and soon-to-be-retiring Rockefeller found a solution to end it for good...It's called Local Choice. For more info go to http://www.americancable.org or http://www.americantelevisionalliance.org

I know that WCBD News 2 got a new set for their local news. I don't know if WMMP and WTAT finally went HD for their HD syndicated programming.

I have been using a HD Homerun Prime for a few years now to receive Comcast ClearQAM stations. All of a sudden FOX no longer comes in. Has something happened to that station? My other ones seem to still work.

I use Windows 7 Windows Media Center.

When I go to edit the stations, it still shows as the FOX station being unlocked but it gets no signal at all and won't display anything.

Hopefully someone can help me out.
