I have no idea, I haven't heard from them. However, as I have said before, the transmitter isn't quite complete and still has some issues that we need to deal with. Weather and crew issues from Katrina have prevented us from completing the work, so it's still not quite ready for primetime..

How disappointing. One gets all gearded up for a season of HD Football on CBS only to have the signal disappear on the first day of the season. Does anybody know what happened or if they plan on fixing it? I know it worked exceptionally well during the pre-season as I watched a couple of games.

Picture looks better than NFL on FOX last year or ABC MNF to me anyways. No green slime or dancing grass that I can see. I'm about 9 ft from a 47" screen.

Yep...WAKA looks great! Too bad we missed the football game. I hope this doesn't become a habit like WSFA. It seems that everytime NBC broadcast the NASCAR race, WSFA doesn't carry the signal. I hope the stations realize that many of us desire to have the HD signal during these sporting events. If they need to do maintence, etc, then do that stuff some other time.

The money "YOU" put into it? You should see what "WE" put into it...they don't give away
the equipment, transmitters, and electricity we use..and to get zero return on investment at this point..Unless you count the griping that goes on because something isn't in HD..

I thought it was a public law that stations had to switch to the digital signal. Don't shoot the citizens...it sounds like your concern rest with your elected officials!

Owwwch...

Ok, I'll just run down to Mawntgummery and fissit..be there in about 7 hours...

Wait, their transmitter is another hour out..make that 8 hours!!

Did you know it cost more to run WAKA-DT55 than it does WAKA-TV8..for electricity alone..

LOL - it was meant to be friendly banter. - it looks like WAKA got their act together although we missed an entire NFL game. I just hope this doesn't happen all the time. And, no. I don't know what your electricity bill runs, but I'm sure it ain't cheap. Keep up the good work keeping the signal up!

btw - FOX is back up. Of course, it's up during the halftime show. We'll see if they can keep it up during the rest of the game.

Like I said..ya'all call Mark Smith....he's the Ops Manager there.. I think once we get the bugs worked out, you'll see good consistency from WAKA..They need to know you all are out there and expect it to work!

Reading puts me asleep. Hey, I got email back from WCOV saying its fixed and asking how long was it out. Good deal..I sent a email last week to WSFA station manager about why no HD NASCAR and he forward it to the Chief Engineer. Have not gotten a reply and don't expect to. I Like WCOV.

RE: Nascar on WSFA - I, too, sent an e-mail to Hoyt Andres @ WSFA concerning Nascar during the Aug 7 & Aug 14 race. He did send it to his chief engineer, Craig Young. The following is what they sent me. Now, this doesn't explain what happened during the Sep 4 race at California. That entire race was not in HD. Mr. Andres was on vacation during that time and has yet to reply with an explanation.

From Craig Young, August 17: We have been having intermittent problems with the NBC receiver that we get HD on for some time. The first week Nascar problem was cured when we reset the HD receiver. There was no warning that anything was wrong until the program came up. We have no way to look at this ahead of time until an actual HD signal comes down from the Network. The second week was a problem with the transmission from NBC coming to us. According to them bad weather at the transmission site cause the problems that day. We think we have finally found the source, last night, of the intermittent problem we have been experiencing. We are working with NBC to resolve it and hope to have it repaired for this weekend. Remember, this is new to all of us and we have to learn new troubleshooting techniques as this is totally different from analog television. The cost of converting is tremendous, so we have only 1 of everything in the chain at this time. This will improve over time but not overnight. I hope this helps explain what has been happening.

DTV is so new that most engineers rely on the early-adopters to tell them when there is a problem. That's why some will expose themselves on forums such as this one. Then there are those who won't give you the time of day. So kudos to the CrackPot DTv Engnear.

Agreed! I do applaud those like CrakPot DTv Engnear and the crew at WSFA (Mr. Andres, and Mr. Young). Additionally, Mr. Witt @ WCOV is on the job. We have exchanged a few e-mails now concerning their broadcast.

Again...thanks!

I understand it's all new. We are not trying to be mean. Just letting everyone know what's going on on the receiving side. At least we have a few that is working with us.

Fox yesterday. No biggie. but a couple of bumps while switching between local comercials and national. Programs ran great.

NBC Saterday during the "Saterday Night Live first 5 Years" Someone was messing with something. LOL Droped out a lot about in the middle of program.

Hi Folks. Mark from WAKA. Sorry about being off during the beginning of NFL yesterday,
but as Bob said earlier, we still have a few issues to resolve. Looks like we got back up around 12:55. Bob and his guys from Charlotte have put together a first-class transmission facility at WAKA, and once completed should serve all of us well. Please know that we never plan outages around HD programming, so if that happens you know
something beyond our control has popped up. FYI, we have a NFL doubleheader this weekend: Jacksonville @ Indy and Cleveland @ Green Bay. JAX is NOT offered in HD, so
"please do not attempt to adjust your set".
