It looks like KJCT is up and running with primetime HD. I thought I saw something on Wed. night and there wasn't any shows in HD on Thurs. But tonight "Faith & Hope" is on in HD (now if we can just get something worthwhile to watch). Anyway, it looks like KJCT is ready to go! Two locals in HD and hope for the future.

Well, KJCT lasted about 20 minutes with picture and sound. Then we went to just picture, no sound and finally back to SD and sound. They are aware of the problem and master control apparently has informed Roger. Hopefully he'll get thing back up and running soon.

Update from Roger at KJCT this morning:

Just an update...late last week I finished the installation of our new full power digital transmitter (10,000 watts radiated power vs. the old 750 watts). It should be easier to pick up depending on what type of antenna the viewer is using and its direction. I have also been working on the installation of the new HD time delay server to air GMA and network primetime in HD, but I have had nothing but audio problems with the integrated receiver/decoder. I have been working with the factory about these issues, and they are building another decoder for us. I hope to have it soon and put these audio problems to rest.
The problem with HD is that it is still new technology, designs and manufacture
of needed top end gear are both very expensive and not all the bugs are worked out yet. But we are working on it. Hang in there....Roger.

Re: KREX (Houk Media LLC)

They now have SD DTV on 4-1, 4-2, 4-3, 4-4, 4-5 labled as KFQX, KREG, KREY, KREX and KGJT (UPN).

Is anybody else complaining to KKCO about how they broadcast HD shows in SD almost all the time lately? Call 243-1111, then press nine and leave a message that will be ignored.

They look fine. I have the Dish Silver package. Niether station does Dolby 5.1 and they both multicast. I occaisionally see macroblocking on KKCO, but Conan looks damn good (when they remember to flip the switch, that is).

Didn't call last night when Law and Order went from HD to SD. The show started off in HD and they had some problems and tried to get things back to HD but failed. I will email Roger and see what I can find out what is going on.

For those of you with Bresnan, they apparently started broadcasting Stars HD on 791 yesterday or the day before. I had asked several times if additional HD was coming but nobody knew anything about additional HD. I guess we just wait and see what happens. Let's hope they keep adding channels!

Is it my imagination or is everything not quite right in HDTV land? I ask because I receive OTA not cable...

KJCT falls in and out of HD on almost every commercial (I wish I was exaggerating) for several minutes or just never returns. I am the only person who finds this extremely irritating? I've called on many occasions only to be directed to leave a message and nothing happens. Why is it so difficult to remember to flip the switch? Who can we contact that will make HDTV a priority?

When the KJCT HD is up and running, the audio drops out for large chucks of the time. Encoder problems or another "switch" issue? This happens from time to time on KKCO as well.

Is KKCO even broadcasting a digital signal anymore? I have not been able to get any OTA SD or HD signal from them in over a week...

FYI: I called CBS and FOX about HDTV (I have an email from February from the station manager saying they would be up and running with HDTV in July 2006) now they say it may be October but most likely summer 2007 because the equipment is on back order.

I used to live in the western slope. Would they allow you to receive the Denver locals by DBS in GJ? If not, how far outside of the city would you have to live?

Thanks!

The only legal way to get HD nets in Grand Junction is with an OTA antenna. Denver locals are only available in SD via D*, and E* gives you SD GJ stations. Every time I try to watch OTA HD in GJ, I put the breaking news number for the KJCT or KKCO on speed dial and call after every commercial. After a while they stop answering and flip the switch when they hear the phone ring. The engineers at both stations are named Roger, but I've complained so many times to both that neither responds anymore.

If you lived in a "white" area (Ouray, for example) for a long time, you would still be entitled to all four nets in HD from D*, but that could change any day.

KKCO is up in both HD and SD with a strong signal. I get no audio dropouts on KJCT-HD. Maybe you have low signal or multipath problems. I get 7 digital channels OTA; the four majors, pplus PBS and UPN.

Look for KKCO on 12-1 and 12-2 instead of 11-1 and 11-2 designations they were using.
Maybe some ATSC tuners can lose track of a change like that?

I heard an ad on the radio last night that said "The CW" is coming to "digital channel 12" soon. Roger tells me that the SD digital KKCO feed is going away, and will be replaced by the CW. That leaves 13.9 mb/s for KKCO HD.

So 12.1 is the CW, 12.2 is KKCO HD.

I scanned for new signals and 12-1 is HD KKCO - thanks for the heads up.

So if CW replaces WB and UPN what will the GJ channel landscape look like?

Actually 12-1 is KKCO SD and 11-2 is KKCO HD. We will have the same six channels we have now, except UPN will go away and CW(SD) will appear on 12-1.

BTW, Leno was SD again tonight. Why do these stations spend hundreds of thousands to convert to HD and forget to "flip the switch" nearly every night. It really is so lame.

KGJT DTV SD 4-5/analog 27 will be MNTV (network for English speaking Hispanic demographic).

Telemundo is on KKHD analog channel 20 (edit: now on DTV SD 8-2)

The CW will also be on analog 39/47 (KWGN Denver).

So D* does give Denver locals in SD? On the locals page, a GJ zip code says there are no locals.
If they give SD, why not HD??
And I take it you guys aren't having any luck getting waivers??
I ask because I'm thinking about moving to GJ.

I had HD DNS from D* in Ouray, which is a white area, but you can't get them here in GJ. Period. You can get NBC and ABC OTA in HD that's it. You can't get waivers where they have a digital signal up even though it's SD. The whole thing sucks.

So with D* there are locals through the dish or not? One post here says Denver SD locals but when I called they said no locals.
Anyone live in GJ and 'move' to Ouray?

Directv has no locals, Dish Network has the SD's. Bresnan Cable has the local NBC & ABC in HD, which are of course available OTA also. You have to live well outside of GJ to get the Denver locals on D*, someone correct me if I'm wrong on this one.

Great News! I called KREX to find out what happenned to KFQX (5.2) and the engineer told me it's back on 4.1, and that both KREX and KFQX are going HD next week! Each will have 1 sub channel, but hey 4 HD channels in little old GJ, not bad.

Awesome news! I didn't expect it to happen this soon. I will see if I can get Bresnan in the loop to add these HD channels to cable also.

Just talked to CBS/FOX front desk and HD is supposed to be up "for sure by Monday" (11/13) and maybe sooner. I also did talk to Bresnan and they are aware that these channels will be added soon. Hopefully they will add them to their HD lineup.
