Did you guys see The Tribune (on-line) article about SLO cable TV service will be switched from Charter to Comcast ?!?!? This may be bad news. I recall reading that Comcast is high on the list of most-hated companies in the USA. Relatives that have Comcast hate it. Anyone have experience with both Charter and Comcast?

I've been really pleased with Charter's service and Internet quality/speed, and mostly pleased with their HDTV channel picture quality. The only negative about the HDTV channel quality is that my HD channel quality ranges from outstanding to just okay. Fortunately, the channels important to me are all in the outstanding quality category.

I had Comcast up in the bay area for 7 years (2000-2007), I had no problems. I had there bundle package, similar to what I have know with Charter.... My dad has comcast up in the bay area and his stb's are awesome!!!!!. And hopefully we get comcast sports stations down here finally. Atascadero is closer to the bay area and for some reason charter has l.a. sports?

That won't change - it is determined by each sports league independently of local providers.

The only exception would be for local/regional channels that are in dispute with a particular provider, for example, the Dodgers channel is currently in dispute with certain providers, and not others.

My guess is that everything south of Camp Roberts is L.A. sports teams, and everything north is Bay Area teams.

I'm not sure. My Dad has comcast in Vacaville which has both Comcast bay area and Comcast CA. Comcast bay area carries Giants and CA carries A's.. A block away in the same town, my ex stop mom has Satellite and has Comcast bay area but not CA..... Another block away in the same town, my ex step-sister has u-verse with Comcast sports bay area but not CA. Comcast sports CA are not even option to add either, that's why my Dad chooses Comcast. He likes them as well. So there might be some hope, there might be some overlapping area coverage.

In San Francisco, Dish provides both Comcast Bay Area and Comcast CA, so they are not different areas. But certain providers simply do not bother to provide all the channels available, which sounds like the U-Verse in Vacaville - they simply did not want to spend bandwidth on that channel.

It is certainly possible that Comcast will make available different channels, though.

Having said that, I checked Dish Network and DirecTV web sites, as if I was a new Atascadero resident, and they both listed the L.A. regional sports channels.

Not sure why Dish only shows Comcast bay area but not Comcast CA in Vacaville. Kind of weird, since the A's are closer. Like you said for U-verse, trying to save space.

My Dad in (Vacaville) also points out, he has Sacramento and Bay area broadcast channels, but Dish and U-verse carry only Sacramento broadcast channels in Vacaville

I used 95687 for Vacaville and Dish shows:

Dish has had CSN California for many years. U-Verse could be a different story. U-Verse has TV service and Internet over land wires that competes with all the other providers.

I'm sure satellite has had csn ca for many years, but in Vacaville up until at least last year you had to buy an expensive sports package. That's why my dad has had comcast, because they provide it in a minimum cable package. Maybe it was the same reason the satellite only provide sacramento locals in vacaville, instead of both bay area and sac local like comcast carries.

I'm not sure what DirecTV had or required, but Dish has had CSN Bay Area and CSN California available for anyone who subscribed to any package other than the bottom one (the lowest price package was designed for people who did not want sports). So, "AT120Plus" which is $5 per month more than the lowest price package, would get you both of those.

It is entirely possible that a Customer Service Phone Rep might tell one differently, one would need to use "customer service roulette" to get accurate information.

The best place for accurate info on Dish Network is satelliteguys dot us - which is a Forum site like this one (AVS tends to be DirecTV fanboys frankly).

Is anyone else getting pixellation on KSBY lately? The news was blocky and Hannibal last night was almost unwatchable. It's not happening on other channels...wondering if anyone else is seeing anything?

yes, we typically tune into the news, maybe Jepoardy, and noticed some more pixelation, and also a progressive loss of audio sync, idk what to blame that on, maybe our audio system doesn't handshake well with the signal or...?

I am not seeing that in OTA KSBY using an antenna. Perhaps it is due to cable issues (I don't know how either of the previous two posters are receiving KSBY) ?

Grover Beach ? KSBY is the strongest OTA channel there.

You may be in the shadow of some building or hill, or perhaps interference from some other signal.

Exactly the case. (Shadow, I mean)

Believe me, I've done antenna fool and all that, and determined I'd have to go to herculean extremes in Antenna Erection just to get a couple of podunk stations. Just not worth it to me.

Sorry, should have mentioned I'm on Charter. Here's some screenshots of what I'm seeing. Realistically it's probably my line or tuner or something mad.gif

On Charter in Atascadero, Jeopardy and Wheel of fortune are always horrible. I noticed CW on Wednesday was pretty bad as well.

One thing that is going to be interesting. Is the channels that are getting new #'s, I wonder if our DVR will recognize the channel change? We will see.

Red face

Got my robocall from charter today about the digital transition. Pretty close to the 30 day notice call. Sounds like it's on track.
