WBSF Channel 46-3 "Grit".

Can anybody tell for SURE what aspect ratio they are actually transmitting on this channel? Everything on it is old 4:3 stuff, but my tv set wants to set it to 16:9, which makes it "stretch-O-vision" which I HATE.

I'd rather it default to 4:3 mode with black bars on the side. However, I'm unsure whether the issue is because they are broadcasting the 4:3 material overscanned to 16:9, OR if there's an issue with my tv's aspect ratio on this channel.

If I FORCE set the channel to 4:3, it looks fine, but it automatically wants to be 16:9...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
They are broadcasting this as 16x9 480i. So, it is stretch-O-vision. I prefer original 4x3 material to be broadcast as 4x3, even if it has black bars at the sides. That's the format it was filmed in, and should stay in.

I complained to the station engineer, but he hasn't made any change as of yet.

NOTE: They finally got this fixed on October 1st!

Comet TV on WSMH

Looks like the new sci-fi channel Comet TV is replacing ZUUS Country on 66.3 on Oct. 31st.

I've been using a homemade 4-bay McClapp up in my attic now for about a year and a half. I could get channel 5, 12, 19, 25, 28, 49 & 66 pretty good most of the time. But sometimes 12 & 5 would mess up. So I decided to make another on out of PVC to put it on the roof. I painted it black so it doesn't stand out. I put it up and have added 4, 6, 7, 20, 56 & 62 all with awesome signals. Weird thing is I had this set up at ground level in the front yard to test it before I put it on the roof and was able to pick up 2 & 31. I always thought the higher the better for antenna placement.

Well, Comet Tv got turned on WSMH 66.3 several weeks ago.

Now on 1/1/2016, WSMH 66.2 Get Tv will be leaving us, AND will replaced by AntennaTv ( http://antennatv.tv/ )

I wish Get Tv was also staying, but I'm happy we are finally getting AntennaTv channel in mid-Michigan!

This is good news. I wonder why they didn't add it to 66.4.
I'm also wondering if this is why I'm having problems with my Magnavox DVR. 66.2 is now blank on it but shows up when going through the TV. Weird.

Try re-scanning your channels for 66.2, as it's still live as Get tv and works fine.

I tried that and it's still the same. Weird thing is that 66.1 & 66.3 come in just fine. It also comes in fine through the TV, just not the DVR.

Ok, try THIS little trick:

1: Disconnect the antenna coax from your DVR.
2: Re-scan for channels without the antenna. It should clear the signal matrix completely.
3: Hook the antenna coax back up. Re-scan for channels again, and it should scan them all back in as normal, hopefully including 66.2 once again.

I did that and it's still the same. 66.2 is there but the screen is black with no sound. I can also hit the info button on the remote and it even says what show is currently being broadcasted.

Well, guess what? 66.2 does NOT work on my Tivo (black screen like yours) BUT, it DOES work on my tv set!

So, I have the same issue. They must have something wrong in their broadcast to cause this.

I'm going to send them an email, but I've done this before, and they aren't very responsive. I would suggest YOU also send them and email. Just give them a short explanation of how it works on your tv, but not on your dvr, etc. I'm sending it to: promotions@wsmh.com and also filling out their "feedback" form at: http://www.wsmh.com/sections/station/

Well, they fixed it after receiving my email. It's back to working on my Tivo Roamio. Can you check and see if you now also get 66.2 on your dvr again?

I will, but am also wondering if it has to with them switching it to Antenna TV next month.

No, I'm sure it is NOT anything to do with switching to Antenna TV.

You also might want to mention that 66.3 Comet, is being broadcast at the wrong Aspect ratio. It's 4:3 formatted as 16:9, but broadcast as 4:3, which makes it narrower than it should be. Set to "Full" or 16:9 (depending on your tv's format button) and it's then correct.

Send your email direct to the engineer, I gave his email address above.
