It looked like Elliot to me. He is one of the best at delivering the weather I have ever watched. I enjoyed watching him draw on the doppler radar during my first hurricanes. LOL

Yea, it didn't say what he'd be doing... He might be sitting at the desk with Phillips for all we know.

I wanted to ask if any of you in the market might want to ask the TV stations if they would consider picking up Antenna TV as a subchannel? Maybe dump RTV or WECT weather for it?

Just found this. Looks like MeTV again.

Me-TV Surpasses 45% Clearance Mark
Includes 14 leading station groups
By Tim Baysinger -- Broadcasting & Cable, 4/4/2011 5:38:11 PM
Memorable Entertainment Television (Me-TV), the new digital classic TV network, announced on Monday that it has surpassed the 45% clearance mark, including 14 leading station groups.

The station groups clearing the Me-TV Network include: Hearst Television, Raycom Media, Cox Television, Newport Television, Media General, Capitol Broadcasting, Bahakel Communications, Gray Television, Quincy Newspapers, New Age Media, MPS Media, London Broadcasting Group, Bonten Media Group and Titan Broadcast Management.

"It is gratifying that the marketplace has recognized Me-TV as the clear choice for classic television programming," said Neal Sabin, EVP, Weigel Broadcasting Co.

Me-TV is the creation of Weigel Broadcasting Co. and MGM.

I am attempting to cut off cable and need advise on antennas. I live near Jungle rapids and have been attempting to use a TERK outdoor antenna but I am only getting 70% on most stations and nothing on WILM. Any recommendations would be great.

Although the magnetic bearings to the transmission towers will be a bit different for you, here's what they are for me:

WILM (CBS), WUNJ (PBS) = 309 degrees
WWAY (ABC), WECT (NBC), WSFX (Fox) = 274 degrees

You'll have to most likely tweak the aim of the antenna in order to get all stations...

If it is one of those plastic things, take it back or throw it away. It's junk. You need a metal UHF antenna. Either an 8 bay whisker type, or the kind that looks like an arrow for enough power to receive channel 40.

I live over 60 miles away, and have a higher signal than you do on ABC, NBC and FOX.

Kind of been waiting for someone to comment on the new EAS system they got at WECT and WSFX.

I noticed they still cannot get HD on with the new system on 26. Also when they turn on the EAS on 26, it makes the picture look very washed out. WECT looks normal.

Overall, I like the unit, much improvement over the old thing in the corner, as far as information goes, just wish it had a radar feature in the color coded map.

There just a few of the new boxes that will do the new CAP codes that will work with the FOX splicer. The splicer has to be configured to work with it. We went through this months back when we installed our new EAS/CAP box. The splicer isn't very friendly to set up from the station end either. By design it only displays a 4:3 upper 3rd crawl. Why, I have no idea other than that is what FOX set the specs for and it is hardcoded in the firmware of the splicer and the audio has to be taken via the local stations switcher instead of a direct audio connection in the splicer like every other downstream inserter. For something that was planned for in the initial design of the splicer, it looks and acts more like an afterthought.

Is anyone in Wilmington picking up WILM (CBS)? I have a metal UHF in my attic (2 - story house) with an amp....I have no problem picking up all stations...but with CBS I can't even pick up a low strength signal.

Also WWAY is off-the-air.

Seems WECT deleted the outer counties from it's EAS system. What a bright idea that is... Didn't work for WWAY cause they put them back up when Jerry took over.

Can the outer counties even pick up WECT anymore? I'm usually against this kind of stuff but this one makes a little bit of sense.

Well, I'm picking them up in HD OTA, and I must admit, I prefer them over WITN because of the digital sound, plus their signal comes in without any breakups too and WITN tends to skip out every now and then - they are on analog cable in Onslow, Duplin, Sampson, and Cumberland counties. Also Robeson county has lots of viewers I've read. Don't know if they are on cable there still or not though.

You are only required to cover your assigned EAS operational area that is assigned by the state. Beyond that, it is optional. Most stations usually include all the counties in their coverage area whether they are in the primary operational area or not. The Wilmington Operational Area consists of Columbus, Brunswick, New Hanover, Pender and Onslow Counties.

Isn't cable supposed to broadcast these watches and warnings on all their channels with their own equipment? If so, they aren't doing it. When I was in Fayetteville during the tornadoes, the cable never ran the warnings. In fact the only way I knew we were in the warning was tuning to WECT and seeing the red box over their EAS map where I was for Cumberland county. In ten minutes, it hit just a few blocks over.

not exactly OTA related, but WLFL-TV 18 (CW) Raleigh NC is now appearing on the guide and is analog "of course" for DirecTV

In parentheses it says (Virt)

Full Descriptions,

Wilmington, NC WLFL 18 CW (Virt)
CW television services from WLFL-TV, 18, Raleigh, NC

Be nice if it was Mpeg4 HD

BTW,

Anyone knows the qam channels open on charter, with caps on ATT-DSL it looks like thats where i am headed.

That's strange, because WLFL airs on channel 27 (22.1 virtual) I didn't think they could air out of market in a county that isn't a border to Sampson or Cumberland?

If anyone has any tips on how to watch WWAY for the storm (or the others) when the lights go out, now is a good time to share those so that people can go get what they need to see doppler radar on TV. Batteries and a handheld TV with a digital tuner? A UHF antenna? Remember that cable and satellite will likely go down very quickly. Satellite will go down in heavy bands of rain.

I picked up a small digital tv a few years back--they are a lot less expensive now--and a cheap bowtie clipon that attaches to the VHF whip antenna. I can receive all the stations if I play with the antenna enough...

Definitely charging it up in the next few days...

Damn storm is predicted to hit at night, why do so many of them hit us at night?

Starting to prep today after work--definitely taking this one seriously...

I have a 15kw auto standby generator. I have an OTA module in the vip722k receiver. It keeps receiving even if the Sat is off.

You'll get 2 hrs max out of the internal battery in a portable dtv..and that is assuming the local stations can stay on air during the storm..I have several commercial grade 54AH UPS batteries that I have for when the power goes out for portable Tv's and LED lighting.

bdfox,

I've got a generator that I've had for 12 yrs all ready to go if I have to, but I usually don't power it up right away, or all the time. I have it mainly to keep the deep freezer and refrigerator going, but I can light the house and watch TV on a small set with it, but I know most don't have generators. WWAY did a report tonight letting people know what to do for TV and what would not work, so that was a good thing for those who had not considered how to watch TV in this kind of event. Right now it appears (fingers crossed) that the highest winds will be far enough away that we likely won't see widespread power outages!

I hope so for all that it passes by..make sure you test the generator well in advance..I test mine twice a year..spring and fall..and while it is running under load..turn off the gas and let it run dry to help prevent the carburetor from gumming up. And when all else fails..make sure you have batteries for your AM RADIO!

Actually, during the last hurricane, I found that there wasn't really any new info on radio or tv during the bulk of the storm--it's more just something to do while waiting it out, because let's face it, if the power is out and it's storming, there isn't a whole lot to do except drink and listen... LOL... and getting updates on when the eye will pass or when it moves offshore...

Of course, if you have a generator, that gives you more options...

I wouldn't keep the tv on for long periods of time, knowing that the battery has a limited life... maybe top of the hour updates...

I am having some reception issues this morning with ABC, NBC, and FOX. I never have breakups with these... Could they be testing generators or something?

Just looked up and see that Bounce TV starts Monday the 26th, on 6.2 WECT. This is TV geared toward a specific race.

I would much rather see Antenna TV come on the air.

Yes that yellow blip on the east coast is our dma....

WTF is up with the local stations and directv agreements.

Another year, and no good news for HD In-Market locals over directv.
