I truly don't know whether you mean that the national channels came through and locals didn't or vice versa.

In my latest bill, it mentioned that GAC and INSP are now in Starter/Economy.

Just noticed another one not on your list. 326 BBC America is MPEG-4 here.

CableCard itself is only encryption/authentication and is not affected by this, but devices that use them may be. The most common side effect is that you get audio, but no video. For Comcast boxes, tune to channel 1995. Another test is to see if you get OWN HD on 277. That is MPEG4, even in areas that have not yet upgraded.
Here on the North Shore (Highland Park head end) a lot of channels were switched one week ago. We saw major picture degradation on CBS2, drop outs on ABC7, and no picture on CNN, MSNBC and AMC. (OWN works but with drop outs.) Most other channels are still okay.

I wasn't much aware of the impact of MPEG-4 transition on older hardware until this. So, the Comcast tech came out today and signal strength into the house was excellent.. He said our 11-year old Panasonic TH-PX50U is obviously not able to decode the MPEG-4's coming in via the in-board Motorola Cablecard. He said we are finally going to have to give up the Cablecard, get out of our cave and go rent an STB from the Comcast Store, and let the STB feed the Panny directly via HDMI. (Tech, who seemed very sharp, said he knew he could stop troubleshooting as soon as we tuned to CNN; he'd seen the same issue this week with another gentleman's older Pioneer set that could not cope with the MPEG-4s.)

I think I believe all of this, but would appreciate from my advisors here on the Forum that "the day of reckoning" for this old set has, indeed, come at last. Thanks for your input.

The MPEG4 update should not affect local broadcast stations. They are not going to be updated anytime soon. It's possible they moved frequencies around and that caused some problems.

Also, channel 107 AJAM is gone. No idea what it was, or why it was yanked.

And finally, all the Encore channels got rebranded under the Starz name. See this story for details.

It's Al-Jazeera America. They closed up shop this month.

I see the main SD Encore as STZEN, which changed awhile ago, but the rest are the same as before. Sadly, OnDemand is now a horrible mess. They merged it with Starz, and the titles are all mixed together. You have to look to the right side (at least for IGuide) to see if it's Encore or Starz, or look for the 'Free' or 'Free with Subscription'. There is also no alphabetical list anymore. You have to search through categories. From what I read on the Comcast forums, the OnDemand layout is under the control of Starz.

They didn't change on your set? I noted the following changes:

263 ENCHD --> STZEH
516 ENCFA --> STZFM
519 ENCRC --> STZCL
521 ENCSU --> STZSU
523 ENCWS --> STZWS
527 ENCRB --> STZBK
529 ENCA --> STZAC
626 ENCES --> STZES

And under miscellaneous:

279 FUSED --> FUSE
610 CINEL --> CINE

Flicks? Here's my collection. And I've seen a lot, too.

Just a follow up: We did order, receive and set up the new X1 type STB / DVR. Cablecard will go back to Comcast. Commissioning was a snap. We are pretty impressed with the new X1 interface and even the voice command remote, although we will probably use the Harmony universal because it still allows full control of the AV receiver and Roku.

Last TV firmware update was about 6 years ago; it's possible some channel encoding issues were addressed. But frankly this became a moot issue as soon as my wife found this event was an opportunity to push for the DVR, which she has been wanting for a while!

Thanks.

From my May 4th bill:
Effective immediately: If you have a term agreement with an Early Termination Fee (ETF), you will not be charged the ETF as long as you continue to subscribe to at least one XFINITY service during your agreement term.

Channel Changes: On June 21, 2016, the following channel changes will occur: NFL Network and NFL Network HD will move from Digital Preferred to Digital Starter
FX Movie Channel will be added to Digital Preferred.

Saw this on the Comcast upcoming renewals page:
Quote:
Upcoming Contract Renewals

Most of the channels that we offer our customers are owned by media companies other than Comcast. We obtain the rights to carry those channels pursuant to contracts with those companies. In the next few months, our contracts for the channels listed below may expire. Loss of broadcast stations listed here would include loss of the multicast signal(s), if any, associated with the stations. We fully expect that we will be able to reach an agreement with the owners of these channels to continue carrying them well into the future; Comcast has successfully renegotiated thousands of expiring contracts over the years without ever experiencing an interruption of service. Should that situation change, details will be provided at this site.

May:

  • RAI Italia

June:

  • WBND – South Bend, IN (ABC)
  • WCWW – South Bend, IN (CW)
  • WCIU – Chicago, IL (IND)
  • WFBN – Rockford, IL (IND)
  • WMEU – Chicago, IL (IND)
  • WMYS – South Bend, IN (MyTV)
  • GMA Pinoy
  • GMA Life

July:

  • SIC International

The sports stuff was a month or so ago. The Centric info just means that if you have Starter, adding S&E will not give you Centric anymore.

I'm just passing on the info. I can't help it that Comcast is late with their info. Like I said, it was on my 6/4 bill. I'm sure you will see the same on your June bill.
