Patsfan...the antenna I am currently using is from RS but not shown anymore on its website. However, the first antenna in your post is another one I now own and have used with great success. When I lived in Taunton, this antenna seemed stronger than the one I am using now. Since I moved to Raynham, the one I am currently using seems better. I have not tried any of the others shown. I believe we are both about the same distance from the Needham towers. Interesting to note, my antenna is aimed through a south-facing window and directed SE. The towers are NW of my location. I can't explain it but on my HDTivo, I get the following signal strengths:

19-1 (91)
20-1 (92)
30-1 (92)
31-1 (90)
39-1 (72)
41-1 (72)
42-1 (92)
43-1 (88)

I understand from this thread that Fox 64 is not transmitting an HD signal due to problems with equipment from Fox. Does that mean that they are at least on the air digitally? What channel is their digital broadcast? Usually, when a new digital channel is picked up by my receiver (I have a Samsung 360 and HD Tivo), it will automatically show up as a "favorite" and I haven't seen it.

Fox 64 is not broadcasting a digital signal. When it does come on the air the digital broadcasts will be on channel 54.

Ok. I got the first one from RS and it is pulling in alot of Boston staitions except fox and UPN. I got PBS,NBC,ABC, WB and CBS no problem. Great antenna. Thanks for the recommendation. I should get fox via D** sometime soon anyway and UPN digital in New bedford says its awaiting FCC approval on antenna web.

Patsfan...depending on where your antenna is located, if you are picking up Boston stations, you may have to redirect it to pick up Providence. Try tuning in channels 6 (49-1), 10 (51-1) and 12 (13-1). If you can't get these you won't get UPN28 either.

Thats a given. I got a cheap little compass and have every stations heading printed out on a piece of paper next to where I keep the antenna. I get all of Providence no problemo.

No signal on DT Channels 6 and 10. Sig of 94 on 12, and fine on all Boston channels. Am I the only one? Good thing I receive an excellent signal on 5-1
for the Pats game

I also lost 6 and 10 DT and thought it was propagation. Guess not, I think they are on the same tower with analog 10 which is OK. John

Thanks John for the reply. A relief that I'm not alone and yes they are on the same tower (along with Channel 36 when they come on) which made me feel that it was a technical problem.

Edit: Have now lost the signal for 12 DT but all analog channels are on.

I have a few antenna questions. I live in RI down by the and I am wondering what I might need as far as an antenna to get OTA HDTV stations from providence. I am having a hard time trying to figure out what antennaweb.org is telling me and I was wondering if anyone could help me out. My zip is 02882. I am wondering because I know I can't get FOX through Cox cable and I believe I can't get either ABC or CBS (I can't remember which one).

What kind of antenna would I need?
Is it something I can pick up at Radioshack?
Is it something I can put in my attic even though there are no windows?

Thanks in advance.

Since fox is not on the air yet from providence, the only (OTA) way to get it is from WFXT-DT 25 out of Boston and depending on your location, you will probably need a very high-gain antenna (like the Channel Master 4248) with a preamplifier. I get it from my location but am on a very tall hill and I am not as far from Boston as you are. I talked to Bill Hague from WPRI/WNAC and he said that fox 64 should be live in the next month (hopefully).

Channel 10-1 had no sound comming from the center channel during LAX tonight. I had to switch to another channel to hear what the people were saying. John

From what I understand the LAX audio problem originated at the network.

Last weeks off-air period was because of a power failure at our Rehoboth transmitter we do not have generator backup for our DTV transmitter, which also includes WLNE.

Yahoo! Just got my cox DVR yesterday, I called to find out if they were available Tuesday, they said yes and FREE INSTALLATION, I said "Sign me up!" they said ok they'll come install it tomorrow! So they came yesterday and put it in, OH WHAT A DIFFERENCE HD MAKES! My Panny LCD Projection tv is finally showing it's potential!!! Now I just wish they added more content and fix the bugs in their DVR, it's still not as nice functionality wise as my ReplayTV but the ability to DVR HD plus the fact that SD looks a lot better on my panny than it did through the replay makes it worthwhile!

Tom, Have you been able to figure out how to get the second tuner working? If I am recording I cannot leave the channel. Also I am trying to figiure out if I can do a smooth PIP setup.

You'll probably notice the upgrade when you get home today.

I posted this on the Motorola 6412 review .

"The two tuners are activated, here in RI.

I'm good to go, about 4:30 AM this morning the screen was filled with a Pioneer logo, and then the box powered down.

I tried to record a show and then change the channel and voila, it changed.

Previous to this when I tried to change channels, I received a "tuner is busy, you must cancel this recording before changing channels."

Recently, I have had a chance to see the Boston Red Sox win two World Series and the New England Patriots win three Superbowls. Not bad eh?

I must say I'm a bit frightened by the fact that you were awake to notice the pioneer logo flashing at 4:30 this morning! I was home at lunch but didn't think to check for dual tuners, I'll check when I get home 2nite.

Hello All:

Located in Southern RI. Currently get analog stations - channels 2,4,6,7,10,12,25,38 and some others also - 36,26,27,44,56,64,69 - with some of them at times dropping out or losing audio when viewing through high def capable lcd Toshiba. Actually - those that do lose audio can be tuned with sound when switched to viewing through vcr tuner.

Question is - with a Set Top Box digital (high def) tuner and using my amplified (older)channel master antenna - should I be able to receive high def signals from those stations which I currently get as regular tv? And - I have heard that stations which go digital - will either be received in great shape or will not be received at all? Is that true - in other words is snow/interference no longer a bugaboo.

The last part is true; it is pretty much all or nothing. You can have a picture intermittantly though. Generally if you can receive an analog station with just a little snow and no ghosts, the digital picture will come in OK. One caveat is that the digital and analog stations be in the same band. The Boston digital satations are all uhf so if stations like 38, 44 and 56 come in OK you will probably get the major network stations. A rotator and either a high gain UHF antenna or less helpful a combination VHF/UHF antenna will improve your chances greatly. John

Hey, is little Rhody getting second classed again?

I wouldn't want to bust bubbles over the Motorola 6412, but is there any reason why Rhode Island is not getting the iGuide like our neighbors in Massachusetts who have the same box. It is more Tivo like and a lot friendlier. Example, they have a 15 min FF skip or something like the Tivo and you get a great time bar.

HERE , check it out, http://michigan.mybrighthouse.com/se...ces/iGuide.pdf

Red Sox question: Other than from Cox, is there any other way to get Red Sox in HD in Warwick?

Question likely to make me less popular (Jets question): Can I see Jets games in HD by getting DirecTV (does DirecTV give NY HD broadcast feeds since they're not all available OTA, for example FOX)?

You would need to subscribe to NFL Sunday Ticket from DIRECTV. If the Jets game is in HD, Sunday Ticket will carry it in HD.

Anyone with an update on FOX-64? I struggle to get FOX-25 digital and am disappointed that my NFL-HD lineup is limited in the meantime.

WJAR Engineer,

Any update here? Any idea as to a new projected on air date, and can you tell us the Kw power for the digital signal?

Many thanks...

Yes, now that WFXT is at full power, I get a strong signal, most of the time.

I have noticed, that sometimes CBS Boston and Providence carry different NFL games, so presuming that Fox is the same, just trying to open up a new option.

I live very close to Providence, and can not get WLNE-DT or WJAR-DT. I do get WPRI (digital VHF 13-1) but probably will not be able to get WNAC-DT when it goes OTA. You are correct, sometimes 64 carries a different game than 25, especially when the Pats are home, and Boston loses the doubleheader game.
