Moving from TX to Neosho in about a month and need antenna recommendations. I'll be in a rental for hopefully no more than a couple of months until I can find a house to buy.

Suggestions for an antenna and where to point? FYI, I'm leaving my antenna, but bringing my winegard 8275 pre amp.

You'll probably be out of range of the Springfield stations, as their towers are about 18 miles east of Springfield, in Fordland.

So I should shoot for Jolin then? And Rogers, AR? Not sure what they have yet.

A much more accurate reception prediction site is TVFool.com.
Based on a Neosho Zip Code: With an outdoor antenna & preamp, you may be able to get Springfied. But you'll need the exact street address entered into the TVFool site above, to be sure.

But your strongest stations will be Joplin & NW Arkansas.

Actually they're doing a 7am on the CW. (They are doing a 9p on CW as well)

They're essentially going after KSFX with news when they do it, except on the CW..

I agree. It looks like KY3 is trying to give another reason (opportunity) for Nexstar to kill KSFX and switch KOLR to UHF.

I don't care about the local news, but I do wish they would do a KSFX/KOLR frequency swap. Or just move CBS to KSFX so people in podunk can watch it without dropouts from lightning and electrical impulse noise.

According to antenna web, my closest stations around approx 17 miles away in Joplin. However, I'd really like to try for the Springfield stations. With the winegard hd8200u and 8275 pre amp, I've had excellent results over 80 miles from Dallas Ft Worth out in the country.

If I bring this setup to MO, will striving to get the newer channels hurt the Joplin ones? Of course, I would have the antenna pointed towards Springfield. I'm rather new to all of this. Thanks for the help.

Did you use an exact address or just a zip code? Because results can vary widely, due to terrain.
Also, TVFool is much more accurate than antennaweb.

Re: the 8200U antenna. It is tuned for all 3 TV bands, lowband VHF, plus highband VHF & UHF. Lowband VHF is not used for any of the channels you could receive in Neosho.

The extremely long elements on that antenna are for lowband VHF and are of no use here. It would work, but an antenna with much shorter elements would be more suitable here. Example: Winegard 7698P

If you were only shooting for Joplin, a much smaller ANT751 would probably be all you'd need (based on data for zip code only).

Yes, the 7698p might work. My brother has that. As for the address, I used the courthouse, as the rental I have is a block from there, but I don't have the address yet. Hopefully in a couple of months I would move, and set up something more permanent. I will try tvfool.com as well.

In an apartment, you might possibly receive Joplin with an RS 15-1874 antenna.

I have one of those, and I'll probably try it while first moving in for starters.

Too bad Nexstar's not going to do a frequency swap with KOZL & kolr. It would be nice for distant kolr OTA viewers to watch CBS without dropouts.

So now I need cable or satellite just to watch FOX. Unbelievable.

Quote:

You won’t be disappointed with our switch to FOX.

Seriously? You're seriously trying to convince me that I won't be disappointed by FOX switching to a channel that I can't watch? Yeah, I'm sure I won't be disappointed when I'm staring at a black screen during NFC games and the World Series while your half-assed TV station is broadcasting at 30 watts to 14 people in Lebanon.

I already hate these people.

As for KOZL... a bunch of local news, infomercials and "Two and a Half Men" reruns? I'd rather be waterboarded.

Nice knowing you, KSFX. KRBK, also known as "really broke", better get their stuff together before football season!

I saw on KRBK's facebook and other pages that they are planning 5 additional transmitters around the area. I am guessing these would be digital (hopefully) translators to fill in the gaps. Has anyone (Trip?) seen evidence of these construction permits or licenses?

Did you see my comment on that discussion thread?

"KRBK: You say 5 antennas. Does this mean you're going to be putting Fox on the NLEC translators like K39IU-D in Springfield? I can't help but notice they have four transmitters in southwestern Missouri, not counting the one in Joplin, and add the main KRBK transmitter and that would make 5."

nope, I missed it! I dug around your web site and I don't see anything about translators for them. I'm guessing it would take months to go through the FCC red tape, get money, build the actual facilities, etc. Maybe longer.

Yes. A friend and I suspect they're probably going to be leasing bandwidth, but we won't really know until either it happens or they announce something. I'm hoping they don't just ignore my question.

Considering the coyness with which "KBRK HD" has been tap dancing around the specific questions, I'd expect more lack of clarity will be the norm.

Speaking of lack of clarity, I bet any translators they end up transmitting on will be 480i.
