Trip (or anyone else), do you have any idea why KRBK has a C-band feed up on 99W?

I assume that's how they're getting the signal to the five transmitter sites.

Interesting, thanks, I never even considered that, thought they might use fiber but it's probably not available at the transmitter sites.

If I ever get to any of the sites I will look for the downlink dish.

Hello all!
Been reading this forum for a couple of years, but never posted before.

I live about 3 miles west of Fordland, MO, and an having a heck of a time getting FOX over-the-air.

Can anyone recommend a good omni-directional outdoor antenna?

I am considering a Channel Master "CM-3000A SMARTtenna Omnidirectional digital HDTV", but haven't read any reviews of it, and I don't really want to spend $100.

I currently have a DB 4 which doesn't work very well....I think it's because I'm so close to the towers in Fordland.
I have it mounted on the roof on a 12-foot mast. It's about 25-30 feet above ground level.

Your suggestions are appreciated!!

Welcome.
Omni antennas seldom work well. They usually receive stations equally poorly in all directions.

You will need to re-aim your antenna toward one of the fox towers, which are not at Fordland.

Try pointing your antenna toward the Springfield tower. It's in NW Springfield.

Thanks for the replies.
I guess I wasn't really clear in my first post.
I know where all the towers are in relation to my location.

I'm looking for a "wife friendly" way to receive all the SGF HD channels.

I can get FOX if I aim the antenna towards their tower on East Division (NW of me), but then I lose all the other channels coming from the Fordland (E of me) towers.

Also, I think my DB 4 is too directional....meaning, given my close proximity to the Fordland towers, I get great reception when I aim the antenna towards a specific tower, but then I don't get a very good signal from the others. Hope that makes sense. Weather and wind seem to really affect the signals too.

Could I add another DB4 (or similar) to my mast, and have one point towards Fordland, and the other towards FOX, and then combine the signals???

Thanks!

You can try that, but combining antennas is a crap shoot. It works sometimes, but it often just results in degraded reception, due to added multipath. If weather & wind are affecting your reception, it sounds like you already have more multipath than your particular tuner can handle.

How many degrees do you have to move your current antenna to go between the two tower sites?

Almost 180*.
KY3 (NBC) and KSPR (ABC) are at 88*, and KRBK (FOX) is at 287* from my location.

Try removing the reflector grid from the DB4. That will make it bidirectional. All you need is a drill to take out the aluminum rivets. Easily reversed, if necessary, with some screws and nuts. Since there's no such thing as a free lunch, don't be surprised if this has adverse effects elsewhere. Still it's worth a try.

The "best" solution would be a separate antenna pointed at the nearest KRBK transmitter and combined with the main DB4 using a channel 49 Jointenna. Since those tuned for the channel you need are now about as easy to find as the legendary Sasquatch, it may not be inexpensive to implement this idea. TinLee up in Toronto can do it, but they're quite expensive (AC-7 filters).

Yes. Remove that reflector, if easily doable.

James Halsey
Just wondering if you will ever add any secondary stations like ThisTV, RetoTV or MYTV ?
they woud be a great addition to the Springfield market

KRBK HD
Hello James, Thanks for the message AND for your interest in KRBK Programming! A D2 channel is something in our crosshairs, yes....but I do not have a launch date, as of now. Still being in our first year as FOX - we have a number of priorities on out plate. BUT, since we do have a dual affiliation, with both FOX and MYN, a D2 would allow us some creative options for building a secondary lineup with a true 'primetime' anchor. Stay tuned, and thanks for watching.

Anyone else not seeing OTA guide data for KRBK? It has been missing for about three days or so now (for me at least).

In order to see guide data, one would have to be in KRBK's small signal area. frown.gif

Pardon this entry please, but I'm trying to find my way back into getting this site to work after the recent revamp toward the end of May. Last comment received by me concerned a KRBK matter. Surely there's been comment since then. This is more or less a test with the hope that I can get back into the Springfield/Joplin discussions.
