It's great their sister station had an extra Antenna, but I was wondering the same thing about the stick!

My background is Radio/TV and to my knowledge most stations own the towers.

It depends on the market. In a lot of the larger markets, the stations do not own their towers. (Think Empire State Building, Sears Tower, the various Richland Towers in Dallas, etc.) In smaller markets, or on mountaintops where much shorter (and thus cheaper) towers are in use, then the stations tend to own them.

For example, markets I'm very familiar with, Roanoke, VA with its mountains are mostly owned by the stations (all but one, I think, own their towers). Conversely, in Richmond, VA, five of the seven full-powered stations are on the same American Tower-owned 1200 foot tower.

In Lubbock, KTXT, KCBD (until recently), KPTB, and Ramar own their towers. KLBK/KAMC/KBZO-LD are on a single shared tower owned by American Tower, as is KNKC-LD on a different American Tower. If the KLBK channel 13 antenna is still top-mounted on one of the American Towers and the KMSB-11 antenna was also top-mounted, then it's probably a like-for-like swap and could be installed pretty quickly.

Thanks for the explanation Trip. I work for Nexstar Broadcasting here in Lubbock. I knew that our tower was owned by American Towers. I just wasn't sure about Raycom and Ramar's setup.

Trip in VA Thx for the info!

So TvFan is Nexstar ever going to add any new networks on their sub-channels?

It's my understanding that KCBD will be using the old KAMC tower to broadcast once the new antenna is in & installed and their transmitter is moved to that location.

I haven't heard anything about them going on the old 28 tower. They might as well, it's not being used now except for low power stations.

Looks like KCBD got their replacement antenna up and running Saturday. You'll have to run a scan to get the channels to show back up. All three of their channels are back in their normal spots (11.1 NBC, 11.2 THIS TV, 11.3 GRIT). They are coming in clean and crisp on my televisions despite the fact KCBD is only broadcasting a low power digital signal now.

KJTV-CD is remapping back as 32.2 but was still showing the SD signal of KCBD here just before 1:00 a.m. Sunday. I'm sure Ramar will switch it back to WeatherNation today or on Monday.

Nice to have all 24 of our digital channels back!

We were told today during our staff meeting that KCBD was not able to put their replacement antenna up on the old KAMC 28 tower because it was deemed "not structurally sound."

They actually ended up sticking it up on on the Ramar tower at 98th and University.

Raycom should just buy KJTV and move KCBD's signal to 34.2. Here's what I said on RadioDiscussions:

Quote:
Hate to say it, but Channel 11 is done for. The tower may be beyond repair.

Time for another subchannel shuffle! (It happens all the time in smaller markets.)

Maybe Raycom could buy KJTV from Ramar Communications and move NBC to 34.2. It would also buy low power KJTV-CD and the construction permit for KLBB-LD.

KJTV (RF 35): 34.1 FOX (720p HD), 34.2 NBC (720p HD), 34.3 MeTV (480i SD)
KJTV-CD (RF 33): 32.1 News (720p HD), 32.2 Weather (480i SD), 32.3 Telemundo (720p HD)
KLBB-LD (CP) (RF 48): 48.1 ThisTV (480i SD), 48.2 Grit (480i SD), 48.3 H&I (480i SD)

Ramar would keep KLCW, KMYL-LD and KXTQ-CA.

As always, pure speculation, may or may not happen.

I live near Wolfforth off of FM179.
I have Directv but I get my locals via antenna. Late last night I did an antenna rescan and it did not find 11.1, 11.2, or 11.3.
Since it did not even find the channels I am unable to check for signal strength. I'm not sure how to proceed.
Any ideas?

I believe 11 is broadcasting OTA at very low power currently. Barely covering inside the city limits.

Hopefully they will stick Heroes & Icons on 48.3 one of these days.

I wonder what these LP junk channels (4, 6, 24, 44) will do when they must switch to LD in September?

The FCC indefinitely suspended the September 1, 2015 date for LPTV broadcasters due to the impending incentive auction. They can remain analog past that date.

Thanks for the information Trip. I wasn't aware they had changed the rules on LPTV.

Looks like Ramar turned on the actual channel 46 signal for KXTQ-CD here in Lubbock. You now get a hit when the tuner scans channel 46.

Do we really need 3 signals of Telemundo here in Lubbock?

I can understand the signal going out on KLCW 22-3 since that signal covers a larger portion of the market. Now we have the same channel showing up on a scan of KMYL-LD and now the scan of KXTQ-CD. Both of these signals display as 46-1 "KXTQ-HD"

Perhaps they are preparing to add another network to 22-3 or somewhere?

I was digging around this evening and notice that Mako Communications updated the information on their website last week. Mako Communications owns K24GP-LP here in Lubbock. The station rebroadcasts the Home Shopping Network on analog channel 24.

What was interesting is they now list their Lubbock station as "K24GP-D" on the website. (http://www.makocommunications.com/lubbock.html)

According to the FCC records, they were scheduled for a digital flash cut on 9/1/2015 and would remain on channel 24.

I know the FCC announced last month that the LPTV digital conversion deadline on 9/1/2015 has been suspended.

I'm guessing Mako is going to switch the station over to digital on or before September 1 anyway.

Hopefully they will follow suit like the other Mako stations and add Retro TV and Rev'n to their lineup.

Any word on the KCBD tower? I know they've been using Ramar's tower.
