I think the DB8e would help with the drop outs since there is more collection area. You really want to use a Y5-7-13 or y10-7-13 for wenh, wmur, and wmtw. Worth it just for wmtw which has a heroes and icons subchannel. Join the two with an RCA TVPRAMP1R. I think you will find much joy in this configuration.

Yes wizwor, I am sure you are correct. But Comcast keeps lowering the price for my broadband as long as I accept a basic cable package. So I'm getting wmur and wenh with and without wind (I mean the blowy wind, not the old Derry station, ha ha, call sign humor)

If internet every truly unbundles from TV then I will have to get serious about more antennas and chopping down some trees!

Autoscan question

I have an old analog tv with connverter box in my attic used to check signal strength of oth channels. Need this as none of my HD sets have a channel signal strength option. Noticed recently that Boston channel 2.1 and 2.2 are not picked up on the scan. No problem when scanning with the HD sets. Since the strength is similar to channel 4 this is not a big issue. Cannot understand why the converter boxes miss channel 2.

Hmm, not sure if this is related, but I noticed after a recent scan that in addition to channels 2.1 and 2.2 I had channels 2.101 and 2.102 (labeled Updat0 and Updat1) in my channel list. Perhaps your old converter does not know what to do with 101 and 102 and ends up punting on all channel 2's?

Thanks for the suggestion. Do you get the odd 101 and 102 numbers on recent hd sets? I have several different size sets but nothing newer than 2011.

Actually I see 2.101 and 2.102 on a Windows Media Center PC with a WinTV 950Q tuner. This tuner is more than 5 years old. I'm not sure whether my other TVs with direct tuning see 101 and 102, but I can take a look tomorrow.

[update 7/20] No, none of my 3 other TVs see 2.101 and 2.102 but they do get 2.1 and 2.2. Could be something unique to the old WinTV tuner or WMC. May not be related to your issue at all.

WJAR Providence 10 Channel Change

If you watch Providence 10 O T A you'll need to rescan or manual set it to UHF 50. Details below. For days I've been wondering why I had to fiddle with the antenna to get 10.

Did anyone notice a shift in 7-1 this week? I had to re position my antenna a good 10 degrees north...I'm in Franklin, MA. Oh, and while I have your attention; Do amplifiers really work?

i did not notice anything with 7-1,which is the weakest station i regularly watch. Before i got one of these, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ilpage_o01_s00 , 7-1 was unwatchable - it would get picked up on a channel scan, but the signal dropped regularly. now it only rarely drops signal...so it worked for me

I'm not aware of channel 7 moving tower locations and without knowing your antenna...10 degrees isn't that much to move out of most antenna's beam-width.

And yes amplifiers work if a single is on the fringe and you want to pre-amp at the antenna. They are also helpful if you have multi-room drops since every-time you split a signal you 1/2 power level received at each TV.

The RCA listed in the prior post has good results, also PCT makes quality amps which is what I use.

Thank you all. I need to buy a roof mount, get this thing out of the attic. It's a Winegard something, like 65 mile roof type antenna, the ones that look like old school tv antenna. I get ~72% on 7-1 and just over that on 4-1 and 5-1, 25-1 is like 60%. These measurements are all from the Tivo Romio OTA receiver.

Thanks again, looking forward to learning more about OTA on this forum! Been a while, haven't had an antenna for OTA since Directv started including it in their services. Although, I did whip up a DIY hockey stick, wire hanger model for a few months in Utah back in 2013.

Cut the cord last month, FIOS 50/50 and a TIVO OTA now. Feels so good.

Attics in general will attenuate signals as much as 50% not to mention multi-path issues where moving the antenna a mere foot does wonders...still once on the roof you'll probably find that you are able to pickup stations you were able to before!

If you want to get good advice on signal levels, antennas, and amps from a wider audience, post in the HDTV Tech section with your TVFool report.
