WBIN, as 50-1, like other shared channels, still has a separate FCC broadcast license, which means it has the right to insist on must-carry on all cable and satellite systems covering the market. That is a big advantage over being just another subchannel, which would only be carried if the primary channel (WUTF) is able to negotiate sufficient retransmission consent rights to include subchannels. The license could also be sold separately in the future.

Not surprising. Those are probably the only stations that would cause heavy viewer complaints if dropped in a price war.

But WBIN still gives WUTF two must-carry channels. They can leave it all or mostly AntennaTV, program something else - increasing the bandwidth if needed, sell it, or LMA it.

I'm pretty sure that "CW 56" WLVI will still show up as 56.1, but instead of coming from it's own transmitter, it'll be coming out of the same transmitter as WHDH. It'll be the same as 50.1 WBIN coming from the WUTF RF 27 transmitter along with 66.1, 66.2...

WSVN tragic accident

At Ed Ansin's (owner of WHDH & WLVI) Miami station, 3 tower workers installing the new WSVN antenna plunged 1000 feet to their deaths this afternoon:

WUTF seem to have fixed their PSIP data for WBIN (now using PIDs 131 and 134 in both the PMT and TVCT).

Attached is how the WUTF pie is sliced:

Cool post. What is the "other" in the chart - stuff like guide data, time, etc?

There's still a problem with the signal. Channel99 sent me TSReader data for it, and the PAT TSID is set to 1 but the TVCT TSID is set to 1377. Some tuners will not handle that mismatch properly.

Looking at signal strength on my TiVo, it says 50-1 and 50-2 are on frequency 27 (WUTF). 50-1 seems to be 66-1 or umas. 50-2 appears to be AntennaTV. I do not believe WBIN is in the mix.

WBZ is back again with their horrible picture quality. Pixelated/weired. Look at the CBS bug below. It looks very pixelated and off. Isn't their a WBZ engineer on the forum here?

Now 50.1 is WBIN (Antenna TV plus infomercials) and 50.2 has no signal, so I would guess this is the final configuration until Antenna TV finds a new home or replaced WBIN on 50.1. I was very happy to watch the Tonight Show with an entertaining host again last night. Wish they would bring back the Tomorrow Show with Tom Snyder.

50.2 went away along with the WBIN RF channel. You need to do a delete/rescan!

Yes, about half of "other" is PSIP (guide data, etc), the rest are null packets to bring it up to the required 19.39Mb/s data rate.

Really enjoying antenna tv. i'm recording the Tonight Show (with an actual entertaining host), but have been sampling some of the other shows. Threes Company, Welcome Back Kotter, Newhart, Family Ties, Green Acres, I dream of Jeannie, Bewitched, and Barney Miller are fun to re-watch. What shows do you wish would come back to Boston?

My list starts with the Tomorrow Show...
  1. Ed Sullivan
  2. Odd Couple
  3. Happy Days
  4. Mary Tyler Moore
  5. Cheers
  6. Dallas

WBTS NBC Boston update

WBTS / NBC Boston will soon lose the full power channel 60.5 signal now shared with WMFP, which will be shutting down soon - leaving them with only the low power WBTS-LD signal. However, they seem to have found a creative solution.
WYCN-CD in Nashua, a low powered station which sold it's license in the auction, has announced it's channel sharing plans - they will be sharing on the full power signal of WGBX - the agreement is here:

https://enterpriseefiling.fcc.gov/da...5f313843344e3a

On page 3 of that PDF doc:
NBCU Boston and/or one of its Affiliates shall have completed its puchase of Sharee's Station or substituted another station which NBCU Boston may elect at its sole discretion, and NBCU Boston and/org one or more of its Affiliates shall have received an assignment of Sharee's rights under this Agreement;

So it's is reasonable to assume that NBC will put the WBTS / NBC Boston signal on WYCN, giving them full power coverage of the market similar to that of WMFP. Since it appears the FCC is allowing WYCN to continue to use virtual channel 13, which will have some overlap with WGME in Portland, ME, they might be allow the channel to be changed to 8, which would also overlap with a Portland signal - WMTW.
