The following shows current plans and what new MAXX plans they are automatically transformed into, for the same price. Early on there also may be reduced promotional rates for limited periods, especially for new customers.

Turbo -> Ultimate 100, for $10 over Standard (new Ultimate 50).

Extreme -> Ultimate 200, for $20 over Standard

Ultimate -> Ultimate 300, for $30 (I think) over Standard

Don't forget the new MAXX speeds require an appropriate modem to get those speeds.

Although my area is probably among the last to get upgraded (i.e. still hasn't happened yet), I'm still trying to decide whether to drop my current Extreme service (30/5) back to Ultimate 50 (50/5) after the upgrade kicks in, and save $20/month. My current Netgear CMD31T will support Ultimate 50, so I have no equipment upgrade cost but will see my download speeds increase from 30 to 50 while saving $20/month.

Or, I already have purchased a new SB6141 modem but that will only support the new Ultimate 100, so I can go that route and improve from 30 to 100 download, 5 to 10 upload, and save $10/month by dropping from the auto-upgraded Ultimate 200 (which my modem won't support) down to Ultimate 100.

Etc., etc.

Decisions...decisions...

What can you do with 300/20 that you can't do with 100/10? I do use torrents often, but I never come close to the 100/10 usage. Are there any services that can benefit from 300 mbps over 100 mbps???

So, patience is not one of my better points. I went down to TWC in Santa Monica and picked up the new router. Here is my new speed (zip 90025):

Paying $65/month for Internet service plus $6/month for modem rental. See my speed in the post above.

Cuz the new router capable of these speeds is not available for sale (yet). The new SP6183 should be available in about a month or so for $120 from Amazon.

I paid about $80 for my SP6141 just 3 months ago. Wasn't aware of new upcoming speeds back then. Will have to sell it now at a big discount.

I may buy the SP6183 when it becomes available and then return the one I rented. Not sure yet.

I would say this is an "introductory rate" for 12 months, not the standard normal rate. Yes?

Woops! Meant to say modem.

I have two Buffalo AC routers creating a wireless bridge between upstairs and downstairs at my apartment. Speedtest shows 250/20 using this wireless bridge. This AC bridge can't handle my new full internet speed!

You are correct. Based on my prior experience with TWC, all you have to do is call them at the end of each term and they will extend. You usually have to speak to the customer retention reps.

In case anybody missed it, the latest programing notice from a week ago or so mentioned that the NHL Network would be available on Variety tier starting October 1. Previously, the channel was only available to those who subscribed to the Sports Pass tier.

So I ended up ordering TWC Turbo internet service, (West Hills has not been upgraded yet) for $50.99/mo including the modem.

Once the service get's the 100/10 upgrade I believe it will be enough bandwidth for me (netflix, cctv, home automation), but I am considering buying the SB6183 modem. Good idea, considering I am not buying into the ultimate service? Am I crazy, to believe that even with the turbo service, this new modem will sneak in some additional bandwidth for me?

Thanks!

My and near cities got their Internet speed upgrades overnight. I saw faster speeds, but I need to replace my old Ambit/Ubee cable modem, from 10/4/2008, to get the full 50/5 speeds. Maybe I will buy my own this time!

There is no way to get a notification about the alerts as far as I know. I do manually check for them regularly.

A year or two ago, people kept on eye on them hoping there would soon be HD versions of their favorite channels. As the HD rollout is likely finished and very few must-have new channels being introduced, there is mostly no interest in the alerts anymore.

Thanks. Well, you let us know. Do you know how often it gets updated? Or is it random? I didn't pay attention to see if it is in a pattern.

I have found that it is usually updated every other Wednesday, judging by the date on top of the page. Hope this helps!

I thought when I ordered the 6183 it was in stock. Mine is now back ordered. Sigh. I have confirmation that I'm on the 300/20 plan in my new higher bill. I was locked into a rate until October. I called and complained and got switched to "retentions" and now have a new $65 rate for the next year. I really want to try out the 300 just for the Hell of it. After that I'll probably try to get a good rate on a lower speed. 109 has been great so far, better up is good for Slingbox and online backups, though.

Joe, you're in the same boat as me. I went down to the TWC branch on Nebraska Ave (Santa Monica) and rented a modem. It's an Arrias DG1670 model (has Wifi built-in - but I have that disabled). They have them in stock and will hand it to you over the counter. $6/month rental fee. The 300 download is overkill for my needs. But the 20 Mbs upload is nice!

TWCable.Help@twcable.com just e-mailed me this since I was wondering about the other local cities in So. CA:

"Please refer to: http://www.twcmdu.com/los-angeles.html

You can get an idea when the service speeds may change in your local area. If your area is not listed in this resource you will be notified when the service speeds become available in your local area."

Bah! I guess Brea is the one according to my parents' paper mail bill.
