Not trying to cast a cloud or anything, but if you do the math, he needs $100k over two years to afford to switch frequencies (assuming WBQC gets a new frequency, which I'll bet is likely). Break that down to advertising income based on a 24-hour clock and he'd need about six dollars an hour more in revenue. That's it. I don't know exactly how much inventory he gets from the diginets, but casual viewing seems to indicate between 2 and 4 minutes per hour per diginet (not including SonLife and JTV. Going with 2, that's 8 minutes an hour, or 16 30-second avails. That would mean a rate hike of only 38 cents for a :30, 76 cents for a :60. If he can't raise rates that much, then there aren't enough people watching for advertisers to feel it's worth it.

Of course, I'm sure you're all frequenting WBQC's advertisers and telling them you saw their ads on Channel 25, right? Nothing works better and making a local advertiser feel as if he's getting his money's worth than direct feedback (a tactic employed by several radio stations I've worked for).

Of course, if you're fast-forwarding through all the commercials and not buying anything advertised, well...

Walking the fine line between jaw-dropping and a plain ol' yawn.

It will be interesting to see if there's a higher demand for both hi-VHF and lo-VHF once ATSC 3.0 is rolled out since it uses OFDM instead of 8VSB.

It is very unfair not to compensate the low power channels for their changeover expenses while paying for the full power stations.
(Its discrimination!)
I think the FCC is underestimating the time its going to take considering our unpredictable weather.

Not really. Owners of low-power television stations knew the rules going in. Any number of things could have caused him to lose the license without compensation.

Perhaps Elliot could start a Fund Raising campaign both online and over the air on his station over the next year or two to try to raise the funds needed to keep Ch. 25 on the air? I would be happy to kick in a few bucks. Assuming that i stay in the Cincinnati area I would certainly continue to watch some of the shows on Ch. 20 it was going to stay on the air and that would also be the case with Ch. 25.

While I think a new assignment is likely, there's no point in raising money until it's a certainty. Still, like I said, an 80-cent a minute rate hike isn't that tough to do if he REALLY wants to save it.

He got the $14 million from the auction so $100k is nothing for him. But he's not going to throw it away, either. Obviously, it isn't worth it because he isn't going to spend the money.

With regard to VHF LPTV, it sucks. Virtually impossible to pick up without an outdoor antenna. But if you have an outdoor antenna, the picture is impressive.

They will probably allow CH.25 to share a channel.

wkoi ch.43 engineer told me they sold their channel back to fcc and are going to share a channel.

Skip season is upon us. Dxing with a good TV tuner and outdoor antenna will yield excellent results like you've posted.
