Help in Waterbury

By my count, this is post 6. As I said in my original post, I live in Waterbury and am looking for some help and or advice on antenna selection so that I may cut the Cable from Comcast. Here is my TVFool plot

http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...2c15d0f9630058

As previously stated, unfortunately, in the attic is the best that I will be able to do, and that is not 100% certain, as I have to get the landlords permission. I watch a Panny 55ST60 plasma, and the picture is great ! I'd like to keep it that way, without Comcast.

Thanks.

Help in Waterbury

Some additional details. The building I live in is a standard frame structure with typical shingle roofing (only one layer of shingles as the roof was stripped down 2 years ago). Walls are drywall with wood frame studs. If I can get into the attic, I will be 20-25 feet above ground level. My apartment runs approximately N-S, with windows facing both directions on both floors. Thanks for your attention .

Last night the synch issue on NBC Evening News was a good deal better, perhaps not perfect, but now I need to adjust my end back to zero and maybe that will do it. They had something goofy going on there for sure.

Makz, your best bet is to get a small antenna with high VHF coverage for WTNH. You could use this http://www.walmart.com/ip/10828410?w...872274&veh=sem or http://www.solidsignal.com/pview.asp...u=716079000987 . It should be aimed at New Haven 148 Deg.
A mid sized UHF antenna aimed at the Hartford channels possibly with a preamp should get the rest of the network stations. Possibilities include http://www.solidsignal.com/pview.asp...0Antennas&sku= or http://www.solidsignal.com/pview.asp...0Antennas&sku=
The signals from the two antennas can be combined with http://www.solidsignal.com/pview.asp?p=UVSJ&ss=420115

AntennasDirect is known for their OTA stuff. Not that SolidSignal is bad, but they are just a reseller. AntennasDirect designs their own stuff.

I provided the links to give a sample model and some info on the antennas. Other similar antennas would probably work as well and the same model can be bought any dealer the person wishes.

WRNT ch. 48

I discovered some new info. I always thought it was showing Retrotv, but apparently its AMGTV. If you want to see clearly what the channel is showing just go to their website, which shows the broadcast online for free. http://www.amgtv.tv. I also came across some other persons comments regarding WRNT on another site. they said :

"WRNT used to be a Retro TV affiliate years ago, but in the last several years it has carried the AMGTV network. Retro TV's national website still (wrongly) lists WRNT as its Connecticut affiliate. While WRNT is still on the air as of this writing, its new owner, Landover 5 LLC, plans eventually to cease broadcasting and use Channel 48's frequency for wireless broadband. Landover 5 has purchased many low-power TV stations across the U.S. to use the channels' frequencies for this national broadband venture. "

Here are some links of interest about landover

Laff and Escape Coming To WFSB Sub-Channels

News broke today on tvnewscheck.com that the comedy network Laff will be carried on Channel 3.3 and Escape, a movie network geared toward women, will be on Channel 3.2. No specific launch dates were mentioned, but Laff will debut nationally on April 15th.

Great. Even more over-compression on WFSB-DT. How many subchannels are they running now and how many will be carried after this?

First thanks for this news about WFSB and Laff, I was about to scrounge up and modify a Y10-7-13 to try to get Laff off the Empire State building which would probably only work where I'm at (a little north of Hartford in the CT river valley) during summer evenings (tropo) .

Escape on 3.2 will replace the weather side channel they have there now not clear if they will move that to 3.5
Laff will replace the 3.3 which is currently a 480i repeat of WFSB

About to move my indoor setup (DB4E + C2V dipole in second floor closet, old school CM 7778, old Digiwave 4 bay in attic cut in with Jointenna for ION only) outside and up high (5 feet above the roof, 34 feet AGL), will post a comparison with outdoor vs. indoor reception. My goal is to greatly improve reliability of 59.1, pickup 57.X MA PBS reliably from the DB4E backside, get WZME RC 42 (can only occasionally get PSIP info inside or hanging below gutter) and possibly pull in RC 23 WFTY out of Smithtown (GetTV, and Escape on sideband channels) along with all the other HD and sideband channels I now get (+/- 30 when there isn't 2 feet of snow on the roof)

All of this in preparation for telling Frontier/Uverse/Cox thanks but no thanks anymore.

So how many subchannels is WFSB running in total? All this makes me want DirecTV, they are the only provider getting direct uncompressed feeds of the locals and compressing them themselves...

Its kind of tricky, some of the 3.X subchannels actually come from WSHM RC21 out of the Springfield area (same owner, only the morning/evening newsfeeds are different).

According to Rabbitears.info, 3-1, -2, -3 and -4 are off WFSB's tower, and 3-5, 6 are from WSHM's tower.

Given that 3-1 is 1080i, I would think 3-2 as Escape and 3-3 as Laff would not compress things too much as long as they shut 3-4 off.

ION has a half dozen subchannels on their 720i primary carrier . . .

Interesting. 2 subchannels, while obviously not the ideal situation of a single 1080i channel, isn't actually that bad, at least in theory.
