update 2/8: KFRE-HD CW 59 and KTFF-HD Telefutura 61 are now available on Dish Network. KNSO-HD 51 Telemundo and 30-2 are the only local HD channels not on Dish.

Small changes to some OTA subchannels (all of these are SD):

32-1 used to be Universal Sports, but that channel dropped out of OTA transmission. Now, it's a channel of various places in the world called Escapes.

24-2 switched weather companies. It is now an AccuWeather subchannel, which was what 30-3 used to be.

Another Hmong channel is up at 4-5, which was on 32-3.

33-4 is TheCoolTV, a channel of random music videos.

2/22 update:
The horse channel, Pegasus TV, on 59-3 is no more. It's now a mirror of 59-2.

Another HD Dish Network update:
From April 11, KNSO-HD is now available for Dish Network subscribers!
The SD feed is still a 16:9 picture squished into a 4:3 screen.

2 more SD subchannels are up on OTA: both Spanish channels found under 51.

Comcast will go all digital on April 10.

Does anyone know if more HD channels are coming after that?

I have Dish with locals, but I've been able to get most of our other locals quite easily with the Mohu antenna. The flat one you can stick on a wall, window, etc.
In the North-South orientation.

I live in east Clovis, so location will make some difference, but thought I would mention it. It is the only indoor antenna I've used that actually works very well. They sell a powered model also, but it does not get the great reviews of the cheaper one.

KMPH is rebroadcasting the F1 race (on delay) and for the second race in a row they are failing to show the race in it's proper format. It appears to be 16:9, but it is smaller than it should be. The video quality also appears to be SD. We don't see these sorts of problems on Speed. Anyone know what the problem is??

I watched the race on the Bakersfield fox station at the correct time and the picture was very good. I live in Exeter and can get both Bakersfield and Fresno stations.

Wow, big changes happened to over-the-air channel 43.

We have a new HD channel in the area. It is another Spanish channel, though.
The 24/7 SD infomercial channel KGMC 43.1 switched to MundoFox, a brand new national Spanish HD network. The resolution is 720p and for now, all programming is HD.

I still can't believe 43 became an HD channel. I thought it would die off in a few years.

update 9/1:
43.5 Antenna TV is now back to broadcasting out of RF 43. Also, the framerate problems on 43.1 seems to have gone away now.

43.1 has been showing reruns of past UFC events in HD, which is pretty nice. The commentary is in Spanish, but I can live with that.

Update ePVision.com

Hi David,

PHD-VRX currently supports free EPG data, which is provided by your local TV stations. If you use OTA (over-the-air) signal, your TV stations will broadcast the EPG data. The length of the EPG data (how many days) will be determined by your TV statioWe have no controntrol of it. We only display EPG data whatever we received. For your local cable company, they normally won't send these EPG data from their QAM channels. Again, it depends your local cable company, we have no control of You can call your local cable company or TV stations to ask them to send out the data.ata.

Later on, we will make unit linkable with a 3rd party EPG service provider. Once you pay them yearly fee directly (we don't involve any fee with them), you can log in your user name and password in the PHD-VRX unit, then you will have 14 days full EPG data on OTA channels, not on cable channels because cable QAM channel has the total different channel mapping. Thanks again.

Here some think about WHAT will this do for DVR's see below eek.gifeek.gifeek.gif
Note: In Fresno & Clovis it is channel 30
Does any have problem with channel 30

Disney's ABC television network is trying to shut down Dish Network's ad-skipping TV recording feature two weeks after a federal judge denied a similar bid by a different broadcaster. The dispute over Dish’s ad-skipping technology, which broadcasters warn threatens their very survival, is being played out in federal courts on both coasts.

Dish, based in Englewood, Colorado, introduced its new digital video recorder, the Hopper, in March. Its PrimeTime Anytime feature can record all the major networks’ primetime shows and store them for eight days after their initial broadcast. AutoHop, introduced in May, allows viewers, with the touch of a button, to skip all the ads automatically, without having to manually fast-forward through them. The broadcasters claim that AutoHop “will ultimately destroy the advertiser-supported ecosystem” the networks depend on for revenue.

Okay - I gave up dtv today... A subscriber on and off since 1998 - going to try to go OTA out here in the Sierra. I used OTA in the hills back on the east coast, so I have a little familiarity with what I am undertaking.

TV Fool says I am a fool. I need a great UHF antenna and lots of luck to try to squeeze some signal out. Anybody else up in the foothills using a setup they would recommend?

Best long range UHF antenna is probably the 91XG from Antennas Direct. And if you are extreme fringe, you may need to combine two together, along with a low noise preamp such as Kitztech 200. Or perhaps comine two 8-bays together. And if you need VHF, then Winegard has a large 7-13 antenna.

I think tylerSC has it right. I might suggest looking to see if any neighbors are going OTA and talking to them.

Down here in the flatland I’m behind a 2-edge diffraction for most of the Fresno stations. So FWIW, I have a CM 3671 and a CM 7777 preamp on the north facing antenna hoisted on a 60-foot tower. Using the TV Fool analysis I see that I can pull in stations as weak as about -92 dBm. Weather and the cows on Stokes Mountain may interfere at times. biggrin.gif

Thanks. I think I'll take a look from my roof first and then probably go with a 91XG. I'll post on here how it goes
