^ Thanks for the info. It at least gives some time to try and figure out a way to get them. I can use WYCW as model, kind of. If can manage to find a way to get them, I should be able to get WUNF. Since they'll be on channel 20 instead of 45, that might help a little.

It would look to be good news for most everyone else in the Upstate.

I currently get a very strong signal for WYCW on 45 in northern Greenville County. But you are further removed so it may be more challenging. But hopefully moving to 20 may benefit although it may be a lower power level.

When I worked for Media General, I was told WYCW's antenna is on the same tower as MY 102.5. I was told the radio station owned the tower. But, Media General sometimes lied to us when we asked questions.

Looks like WLOS will need to repair that tram in order to safely access and maintain broadcast operations on that tower. As well as other radio and broadcast services such as 99.9FM-WKSF radio station. But I guess UNC-TV doesn't want to wait on that or jeopardize their own situation, so they are seeking to move to the WYCW tower, which turns out is actually the My102.5 radio tower which I guess may be owned by iHeart. Several issues here as all these TV stations nationwide will have to relocate to their new channels, and radio stations on the same tower may be effected as well.

^Those articles are interesting. They claim they don't know who built the tramway. WLOS' 50 anniversary special said the tramway was built by previous owner Wometco. (1958-1984). I just love how everyone pretends this is some kind of mystery object. You can watch youtube videos of it.

It looks totally homemade from random parts.

Here's a map of the proposed coverage.

If you PM or e-mail me your coordinates, I'd love to plug them into the FCC prediction software to see what it says about reception at your location.

They are no longer co-located - several years ago, the WMYI antenna was moved SW and is now co-located with WESC almost on the state line near Cedar Mountain. This was a cost savings for iHeart media.

...and I now see the other posts and comments about this site (WYCW) - maybe that's now WMYI's aux site? If you look at the link on Radio-Locator, it shows WMYI in the location I described above - maybe a couple of miles off US Hwy 276.

Having received rtripboy's address, here's what I found, for anyone else interested:

So this is interesting. First of all, I looked at WYCW and WUNF as they are today.

WUNF is something like 45 dB noise margin, and is actually interference-limited by WATL with a 35 dB margin. In short--it's a very good signal.

WYCW is much weaker. It's about 10 dB noise margin, but interference from WGNM clears by only about 4 dB.

Then I looked at WUNF on 20 from the new site. It's weaker due to the directional pattern, only about 7 dB noise margin (compare with WYCW's 10 dB). Interference is generally better, though; WANN-CD is on 20 and the margin there is 12 dB. But, here's what's interesting--it fails by 8 dB due to adjacent-channel interference from W19DD-D, a UNC translator. However, the FCC software over-predicts adjacent-channel interference, and we're assuming W19DD-D won't be displaced, which may not be a valid assumption. (Don't know.)

I checked and it looks as if W19DD-D's signal should be really good. Not as good as WUNF, but pretty good. 25 dB noise margin, with about 10 dB interference margin due to WSOC and WGCL.

W42DF-D should be even better, but it'll be displaced to a new channel, so we don't know what the interference conditions will be.

^This tells me I've been very lucky. I going to have to work hard to keep WUNF after they move. I've never really tried all that hard to get WYCW. Their programming line-up is not all that great and I can watch The CW online, so I've never spent any real money trying to get them. I can get them if the weather is good and I've just let it go at that.

But, I watch UNC TV's Explorer channel almost everyday and don't want to lose them.

I would still think WLOS would have to get that tram fixed if they expect to maintain and operate that tower. Otherwise it sounds like their current operation may not be legally licensed. I know I would not want to ride on that thing. I remember riding that old rollercoaster on the side of the mountain at Ghost Town in the Sky, and that was scary enough.

That old tram looks down right scary in it's build quality. Looks like something could fail at any time.

On other subjects does anyone know what's the problem with WMYA 40.4 Charge TV?
None of the other sub channels are affected. It seems like they lose the satellite feed, but usually if that is the case you'll see a "no signal" on the tuners. What I see is just 100% black level and no audio at all, completely silent. Occasionally the feed will be gone entirely for all of the evening until the next morning. Other times it will be off for perhaps an hour or so...anyone?

I've got some great news especially for Western Carolinas/Northeast Georgia area. YouTube TV is now live in Greenville, SC/Asheville, NC area. Only WYFF 4 (NBC) and WHNS 21 (FOX). Unfortunately no WSPA 7 (CBS), nor WLOS 13 (ABC). Fortunately WSPA 7 is on rival CBS All Access and WLOS 13 is on rival DIRECTV Now in this market. Not a complete loss of locals, but I bet things could change ASAP.

What do you think? I hope Columbia, SC and Charleston, SC markets get added on YouTube TV ASAP.

I don't watch Charge!. But I seen this happen on Antenna TV. In general I don't think pay much attention to their sub-channels. Or to WMYA in general. 40 tends to be sort of sloppy. Today at 10am they aired the slate in front of Harry. On WLOS Rachael Ray has frozen at around 9:13am two days in a row.

You do get VOD for CBS and ABC. Also, NFL games are blocked out on Fox. For now, it is a pretty weak selection for only getting 2 locals.

How do you know NFL games blackout on FOX? I thought it's just NOT AVAILABLE on Mobile Devices for NFL games. SMH!

I know Sports Blackouts are a controversial subject that Sports Fans dislikes.

Because YouTube TV is giving a national "FoxNet" feed to Greenville/Spartanburg customers. The FoxNet national feed doesn't carry any NFL games because those are regionalized

According to YouTube TV. It's WHNS 21 aka Fox Carolina not "FoxNet" feed. I've got proof!

From the YouTubeTV help section:

It's possible that is a typo, or that they reached an agreement with WHNS after the fact but for now that is what it says

I'd have to say, Peter Jennings way of making the viewer feel like he was talking to them personally, was the reason he dominated.

I can confirm that YouTube TV does carry "Fox Carolina" and not the FoxNet feed, and they do show NFL action live. I watched part of the Panthers game on it today. I guess they reached a deal after the launch and YouTubeTV just hasn't updated their help section yet. Now if they would just add WSPA & WLOS they would have a good offering in this area.

The great thing about YouTubeTV is that it allows you to access the local channels wherever you are at the time you log on, if they have launched in that market. My zip code falls into both the Charlotte and Greenville-Spartanburg markets, so when I signed up I chose Charlotte since at that time Greenville hadn't launched. When I'm at home I get the Charlotte local stations (WBTV, WSOC, WCNC and WJZY), but when we visit my wife's parents on Sundays it recognizes that I've left that area and traveled into the Greenville/Spartanburg market. Today I was able to watch the Panthers on Fox Carolina at their house. You can't record from "travelling" local stations, but I've found that you can still pull up any network program and it will record it from your actual local station if it airs on that channel. You can then start to "play" your recorded version even if you are outside your home area.
