Justin, PM me your physical address plus an email contact and the stations you are having issue with. My software is not a general coverage map, but station specific based on DMA. I overlay the signal propagation from the transmitter location and check against the station signal report. I can run your location through and email you a report with satellite images simulating the signal coverage. Based on those findings we can better determine what type of antenna might work best.

Is anyone else having audio hiccups on 68.2 Zuus County? It's pretty constant since yesterday. My signal level is fine and there is no picture break up. Quantum, any ideas?

Granted, if I were not paying $208 a month it would have been a lot funnier. The entire screen was pixelated and the audio sounded like something from another planet. Only a reboot would fix it.

Are you sure that isn't just standard Time Warner quality?

Sorry couldn't resist... that is pretty bad. If it isn't an issue more people are seeing I imagine a service call would be needed.

That's a crazy price by the way, close to double my Fios triple play, which includes the Ultimate tv package eek.gifeek.gif

By the way, the "vibration" issue you were having on WSTM -- I suspect this is an artifact of the resize to 720p. Most displays won't have an issue with it due to the way they upscale the image to fill 1920x1080 pixels.

If you look at the transport stream on your computer with no processing/deinterlacing (for example in VLC) you will clearly see the image bouncing up and down slightly every other frame, especially when there is a news scroller with a static image next to it.

You can see it just from looking at any 2 consecutive frames of the transport stream as well.

Here are 2 consecutive frames as an example:

http://img534.imageshack.us/img534/2530/1jyu.jpg
http://img543.imageshack.us/img543/1245/s8ws.jpg

Download each picture and step back and forth between them (or open them in 2 browser tabs and step back and forth).

You can really see the effect on the china towne logo.

Seems like your display is unfortunately one of the few that has an issue with this frown.gif

I don't think we have FiOS here in CNY, at least not anywhere near me which is probably why TWC is so expensive!

This is exactly what I'm seeing. For everyone else, take note of everything but the scrolling ticker. Both of my Panasonic plasma sets(one a 2012, the other a 2009) show the same vibration.

FiOS is dead for most of CNY except where its already rolled out. Our best hope would be community/municipal based broadband. You assertion that Time Warner's rates are insane because there is no competition is spot on. It's likely why no rep can ever give you an actual standard rate when you make such an inquiry.

Unfortunately it seems to be very limited -- I know some parts of Fayetteville, Dewitt, East Syracuse, Cicero, and Baldwinsville have it, but only on certain streets with utility pole access or some newer developments.

Nice job with the gif, I did not have any software to do that!

I am getting random channel dropouts yet again. I tried watching The Walking Dead season premiere tonight that I recorded last Sunday but all that recorded was a black screen and for only 26 minutes out of 60.

Has anyone noticed WSTM HD picture quality has gotten really bad recently? I get it via D* and just watched last weeks Revolution and it looked terrible. It always used to look pretty good until recently. Have they changed something?

Tons of digital breakups during this week's Revolution and Parenthood. Anyone else experience this? Last 5 minutes of Revolution was completely unwatchable. All other locals are fine via D* so I don't think it's a D* issue.

There was a misbehaving piece of equipment in the feed to DirecTV and DishTV (also affected OTA). It was replaced Friday morning.

TimeWarner Cable

Utica Market

"Standard" Cable package - (Channels 2-13)

Does anyone know where I can find a current listing of digital channels I should be able to receive via my QAM tuner with just the standard cable package? I have the coax cable feeding right into the TV. Channels seem to move around on me and I get different things every month when I do a digital channel scan. WKTVHD 2.1 no longer comes in. I do still get other local HD stations such as 33.1 (FOXHD) and 20.1 (WUTRHD).  I called TimeWarner support and they didn't even know what a QAM tuner was and didn't think it was possible for me to get any digital stations without their set top box. So, they are more clueless than me and I am turning to the experts here now!  :)

Saw a lot of video glitches yesterday via D* during NFL on WTVH that looked exactly like what I've been seeing on WSTM. Has the issue migrated to now effect both stations? While watching the other CBS games via Sunday Ticket, I did not see any glitches.

Also saw video glitches during The Amazing Race last night.

I have been having major issues with WKTV over the last two to three weeks via Directv. Basically Im getting horrible video stuttering, audio is fine and all other channels are fine. Its occuring on both boxes in my house. My brother lives about 6 miles away and is having the same exact issue with WKTV and Directv. I have called and notified Directv and they have me the standard "we'll look into it". Very irritating as its making NBC basically unwatchable at times.

Ahh, that explains the new bitrate on 9.1!

File Size Processed: 1.69 GB, Play Time: 00h:36m:55s
1280 x 720, 59.94 fps, 11.58 Mbps (6.06 Mbps Average).

9.1 looked quite excellent until sometime in mid to late 2012 -- whatever changed then (new encoder?) the channel looked softer and a bit blockier; the level of detail in the image was a lot closer to the network feed until this point. Most viewers probably never noticed the difference since Time Warner was transcoding away the higher quality details anyway, but the difference was noticeable OTA.

Anyway, new channels are always good, the only ones I'm hoping for are This TV, Movies! and Retro TV.

I think they are moving the channels around daily in some areas to force cable box use...

Had a chance to look at Time Warners lineup recently. Seems every HD channel is about 10 to 10.5Mbps. The only channel I found with a higher bitrate was CBS WTVH - it is being trancoded from 17Mbps OTA to about 15Mbps. Even premiums like HBO / Cinemax are 10.5Mbps (the 2Mbps drop from the satellite feed makes a huge quality difference, but I guess they can't support the extra bandwidth even with switched digital video). Maybe after a full analog crush they can raise the bitrates back up, and at least pass on the natively mpeg2 channels without transcoding.

According to DSLReports.com, "Time Warner Cable Loses Another 215,000 TV Viewers" in the 4th quarter. The report also indicates they [TWC] lost about 825,000 customers during 2013. I found this article bouncing around Twitter and was surprised at the large numbers.

i guess the sochi games are going to be on wstm(wktv) anyone know if there will be sub channels used? i'll redo a digital channel scan the morning of the opening cermonies to make sure the latest scattering is in there
just checked and 3-1 seems to be the only channel thats coming in without pixelation and dropouts of vid/audio, hopefully that keeps up thru the games

unless i can find a good hd stream

Hey, I'm a firm believer in the philosophy of a ruling class

Has anyone else experienced audio dropouts and the occasional video dropouts on WSTM-3 via Directv? During the course of the Olympic coverage my wife and I experienced these drops (mostly audio) many many times. Tonight the exact same thing is happening while watching the Syracuse - NC State game. When I switched over to ESPN, the audio and video are outstanding. Please note that I have outstanding signal strength on all Directv transponders, so this isn't a dish alignment issue. I am using a Genie HR44-200 feeding my Vizio with HDMI. The audio and video is outstanding on all other channels. This seems to be a WSTM/Directv issue.

We monitor WSTM on DirecTV here in the office, and have never seen a problem. That said, I did receive an e-mail this morning that reports a similar problem with WSTM on DirecTV, although this person said it only happened on local news - NBC programming was fine.

I wonder if this is a situation similar to the DirecTV-Fox problems of a few years ago, where stations around the country using the Fox splicer had signal quality issues on DirecTV. DirecTV is usually pretty quick to contact us if they detect something amiss in our signal, so I'll e-mail them and ask if: 1) They see anything wrong in our signal, and: 2) They have any idea why a handful of viewers are reporting signal quality issues.
