Isn't there English programming on 62.2, KAKW? Were you able to receive that OTA?

San Antonio has two full-power hi-VHF DTV channels - KLRN-9 and KSAT-12 (TLs s.e. of town) and two LPDTV on that band as well (10 and 13). The ERP on 9 and 12 are rather puny vs our UHF full-power DTVs. 9 had to "protect" KCENs coverage area, but was eventually granted an increase.

I had heard that there were issues in south Austin with KSAT...that certainly explains why. The HD VHF here was a mess for months until they finally got it (somewhat) straightened out. Any idea HOW KSAT wound up on VHF?

Yea, just a little bit of skip. That is miserable. It's unbelievable the FCC allows this station to call itself part of the Austin market.

Mike, I have the most recent Hopper with Sling built in. Does this mean that I have an OTA tuner built in? If that's the case, I would be glad to hook up an antenna to check the guide data for you. I don't know if the OTA tuner is a separate module that I have to install or not. In any case, I don't currently have an antenna hooked up.

Edit: I just did an OTA tuner search for the Hopper and it looks like a $30 option that hooks up via USB. So, if that's the case, I don't have that option. Sorry.

Does anybody else here have AT&T GigaPower? If so, are you getting speeds anywhere near 300 Mbps?

Thanks!

No worries, yea, it's a little dongle that hangs off the back of the Hopper.

I live in Kyle and yesterday I took my TWC modem to their office in San Marcos to have it exchanged for free. We will be getting the speed increase sometime this week or next (thats what the lady & tech rep told me). I have turbo 20mbps down/2mbps up. It will go to 100mbps down/20mbps up. Also there are alot of wifi hotspots all over this area now. Cool ! Now if TWC would stop blocking access to ESPN etc on the web (I don't have programming service from TWC, just RoadRunner).

Is the internet speed increase a freebie or a paid upgrade? What is the monthly charge?

I was paying around $35/mo for 15mbs download. The bump to 50mbs is without any price increase.

It is possible that the upgrade is rolling out section by section, and they just have not got to you yet. However, to ensure your modem is capable of handling the higher througut, you need to go to http://twc.com/speedincrease, where you will find a list of modems and what speeds they support. I didn't need to change modems.

Talked to TWC three times in last two days and they do not have this information. What is the source please? If the schedule is legit, I will change my service now to Turbo and I will be upgraded to 100MB in July for no increase in monthly cost.

I'm in NW Austin and am now consistently hitting 100/10 on Time Warner on the Turbo plan.

Unrelated: Has anyone else had any trouble with KVUE OTA lately? I have an ANT751 in the attic and lately KVUE has been having terrible dropouts of both audio and video. I know it could be all of the trees around our house filling in, but it only seems to be a problem on this channel.

My OTA using a DirecTV AM21 has been crappy for months... I don't use it anymore at all.

I have fairly clear shot (no two-story trees) in Pflugerville and have noticed a lot of split-second pixelation or drop-outs on KVUE. If I'm watching a show I don't usually notice them, but my DVR's logs are full of them on that channel alone. I'm assuming signal/equipment problem.

The English-language programming (GetTV) is on 62.3 -- 62.2 is the Spanish-language UniMas channel, while 62.1 is Spanish-language Univision.

About KVUE. Their signal is unpredictable. It was awful in late '03, then it got better earlier this year, now is back to unpredictable. I hated when some of the FIFA World Cup games were on ABC iso ESPN. I avoid that channel now.

I wrote the following seven months ago, and nothing seems to have changed:

I've been frustrated trying to watch KVUE for a while now, especially on Saturdays. Football games were pretty much unwatchable. And today's bowl game was the same.

I decided to use their web site to ask about this. To my surprise, I got a quick response from Patti Smith (President and General Manager). The answer was "KVUE is currently experiencing some technical difficulties, which has forced us to transmit at half power. We are working diligently to restore our signal to full power at this time."

I appreciate her quick response. What I can't understand is why I have never seen any mention of their problems before. Shouldn't the AAS have run a story about this? Nobody else on AVS noticed this?

And finally, doesn't KVUE have a direct feed to the local cablecos? I use TWC, and maybe U-Verse (only) has the direct feed .

When you say unwatchable, what exactly do you mean? Are you talking about signal breakup, pixelation, what?

When you watch KVUE on sources other than OTA, like TWC or DirecTV, is the signal acceptable?

I am currently watching KVUE OTA using a chimney-mounted antenna going through an AM21 DirecTV OTA tuner. The signal is solid, and the quality is pristine. I am ~5 miles from the Davenport Ranch broadcast towers with a direct line of sight and 100% signal strength.

Yes, if you're speaking about smeary picture during sporting events, that's just KVUE and the idiotic way it's set up, converting ABC's nice 720p signal to 1080i. But if you're getting a signal dropout, that's another thing entirely.

To the world, you are just a person. To a rescue dog, you are the world!
