Anybody know if the Red Wings v. Maple Leafs game will be shown on TC/Petoskey Charter cable tonight? Wings and FSN websites both indicate the game will be broadcast on "FSN+" channel and that supposedly is channel 99 locally. Cable guide shows regular CSPAN programming at 7PM tonight, but I have found discrepancies before in guide listings. I wasn't aware of an intermittent local FSN+ channel with Charter before I ran across this. Has anyone ever seen FSN+ on channel 99?

I know this isn't exactly an HD question, however, I am not sure where else to ask a local Charter programming question.

Channel 99 was used for FSN Plus early in the season for Tigers games. Traverse City on Charter.

I liked The Tube and will miss it. Maybe we can start a grassroots effort to get a CBC affiliate in the open channel slot! HockeyNight in Canada anyone?

I don't know about that, The Tube never did look good at all on my 50" screen, could only imagine what hockey would look like.

From Mike Miller at 7&4:

Kevin,

This is the e-mail I received yesterday morning with no warning:

Dear friends of THE TUBE Music Network,

We regret to inform you of the fate that has befallen The Tube Music Network. On October 1, 2007 The Tube will cease its national broadcast.

Viewers, Artists, Music Companies, Investors, Business Partners, TV stations, Cable companies, Advertisers , Friends and our creative partners @Radical Media - your support of The Tube has always been highly valued and appreciated. The collective efforts of this team, fueled by the letters we received from viewers, sustained THE TUBE as it struggled through the financial limitations that ultimately contributed to its incapacitated state.

Thank you for inviting The Tube Music Network into your lives.

Sincerely,

The Tube Music Network staff

We were as puzzled as you as this in not how a network typically operates. We are looking for a replacement network at this time and apologize for the inconvenience.

Sincerely,

Mike Miller

Actually its not an inconvenience at all..LOL..Heres to hoping they dont ever find a replacement. I hope they take that bandwith and give it back to NBCHD and never look back. Personally Im sick of the pixelated mess that NBCHD is around here due to the subchannels.

I have been toying with the idea of putting up an antenna for OTA. I currently have Charter here in Harbor Springs and am pretty happy with the service I receive but would like to have a back up reception plan. I keep reading that OTA HD is superior to either cable or satellite PQ as there is no compression with OTA. Any of you on TC's Charter system have both or have had a chance to compare that would care to comment?

The other aspect of this is my location and exactly how successful OTA would work out for me. I've done the TVfool and antennaweb searches, read quite a bit and think I might have some success. I was really fired up to try back when I had DirecTV and no locals via satellite. At the time, local DTV was just getting underway and I just kept basic cable for the locals. Once Charter offered HD, I just switched over completely. I might give it a try just for the fun of it but with the tempatation of an even better picture, well . . .

On a different topic, does anyone know of a contact through the regional Charter office for programming? I really wish we had a CBC affiliate on our line-up as many of the other Charter regions in Michigan do (e.g. Cheboygan) and would like to put that request out there. I guess I don't know how strong the interest would be, but I would like to communicate with someone at that level to find out if it is even possible. I keep throwing this question out on different forums and really never get any solid leads. At this point I think I am just going to send a letter to corporate in St. Louis and ask it to be sent along to our regional office. I just wish I could find an email contact/name here to simplify this. I did contact LiveChat but I think that was largely an exercise in futility!

I have a Sony HD DVR that lets me do both cable card and OTA and Ive switched back and forth before and I really dont see much difference on my 50" plasma, both services have same artifacts to my eyes here. But having an antenna for back up is always a good idea, but I don't think you will see much difference, but maybe if Charter starts adding alot of HD channels that might change, right now Charters HD channel are looking pretty good on my end, alot better than 6 months ago.

Charter is adding at least 4 new channels in December. Fox Business (SD), VS HD, The Golf Channel HD, and History Channel HD according to today's Record Eagle.

I see RTN is on TC Charter 107-2 on clear QAM, where The Tube was. Haven't seen it show up on the guide yet.

Those of us on the eastern side of the tip of the mitt get the following:

TV 9 & 10 - channel 49-1 -- excellent HDTV
TV 7 & 4 - channel 35-1 -- piece of crap stretched SD
PBS - channel 6(57) -- 57-2 (SD) & 57-3 (SD) (thank god neither is stretched)

My question is: beyond the excellent job of TV 9&10 does anyone know when we on the eastern side will see anything like HDTV? I'm talking about the area east of I-75 down to say Rogers City. Any word on PBS HDTV?

I received a letter from Charter today saying they're raising rates on the HD package. I think they could keep rates the same if they stopped wasting money on postage to mail me Charter Telephone offers every three days.

I've contacted PBS several times in the past two to three years, and they always kept telling me that they would be in HD in 6 months, well its like two years later and nothing, last time I spoke to them was in March I think, and at that time he told me late summer, well thats come and gone, so I guess that means they are not going HD anytime soon. My guess anyway.

Amen. Anybody call to see what the promo is that's mentioned in the letter? Probably an offer for Charter telephone.

Ever since I was with DirecTv years ago and they started charging for HD, I never really understood why providers charge for HD? Okay, because they can; but seriously, this would have been like charging extra for color tv in the 60's! Maybe the sponsors did pay more for advertising for all I know.

Oh well, I've vented and I'll just keep paying. I guess I am going to save a buck on that additional analog STB though . . .

What are the new rates?

In fact, does anybody have a link or can post any info on exactly what charter's rates ARE for the various tiers and ****?

I don't know if this is helpful, but try this https://www.charter.com/order/alloffers.aspx

I have never found a good webpage that truly lists all of their services and fees, similar to the handouts they have at the Charter office, which might be your best bet.

On a different subject, I just called Charter re: recent letter listing price adjustments and "Special Offer". To my amazement, they just took $15/month off my bill for the next 12 months!

I have no idea if "the offer" is based on current level of services you have or what, but it's probably worth calling to find out what they have to say.

I have a friend that did the same thing, called Charter to complain and got his rate locked for the next year, and an additional $10 off a month.

Hi to all!!

We have lived in Traverse City for about 9 months and have Charter. I had my second bad experience with their billing dept. I pay my bill online and Saturday had a tech show up to turn the cable off for non payment. I went through the roof!! I showed the guy my online statement and bank records and he just shook his head and told me to go to our local office and work things out. I work for Maple Disposal so the last thing I want to do after a hard day of dumping totes is go deal with Charter. I got it all worked out on Tuesday............Wrong. I got a call today saying my phone bill hasn't been paid in 3 months. We have the Charter bundle!!

I have had enough of talking to someone overseas that has no clue what I am talking about.

Long story short, how much does the weather affect DirecTv up here? I really can't deal with Charter anymore.

Thanks for reading my rant.

A properly adjusted satellite dish (whether Dish or Direct) should not experience very many outages. Keep the snow off of it and you should experience no more than ~10 (or less) rain fade outages a year. I usually drop my signal for about 3 minutes during heavy storms but this only happens during heavy rain events. I also do not have the greatest signal strength because of a tree that I can't cut down.

Anyway, I argued one time with the cable company when they said satellite was not as reliable as cable. I told the guy that while my dish went out slightly more frequently that when it did it was usually only out for a few minutes while the cable might be out for half a day.

They both have outages (and they usually occur at the worst possible times) but so far I have been happier with satellite than cable. For what its worth, I have Dish Network but I have had Directv and when you boil it all down they are very similar depending on what programming you watch.

Rain outages are infrequent and short lived. The only issue that has caused an extended outage for me has been a really wet snow that clings to the dish and then freezes. Mounting the dish on a ground mount pole for easy cleaning is a good solution if possible.

That's what I had done on Friday. Even with all the snow and rain this weekend I had a great picture.

On another note. Other than Charter,is there anyone else in TC that offers High Speed Internet?
