is ABC back on? I checked earlier yesterday but wasn't getting anything.

They better get it fixed before the bowl games start up on ABC.

WTVC's chief engineer replied quickly to an email I sent to him this morning about their signal issue:

Wayne,

Hopefully by the end of the day today WTVC-DT will be back on the air. We are in the process of increasing the power from 200KW to 575KW, and had an antenna failure on Friday. The tower crews are working on fixing the problem now.

Thanks for your interest.

Hey thanks for posting! I'm new to this thread...just purchased an OTA HDTV receiver yesterday. I can pull in everything (95%) but Fox and ABC in DT. (60%) My newbie thinking assumed a new antenna would be needed. Looks like ABC (WTVC) may work better for me tonight and Fox well....

WTVC (DT) still doesn't pick up for me. Missed Monday night football last night in HD. Is anyone/everyone else having a problem?

Hey jwerner, Where abouts are you located. I'll have my VBox USB HDTV receiver in tomorrow so i'll test it out then. I noticed you have a SonoTube. How does that work for you? PRetty easy to build?

I just checked and it's coming in just fine here. Whether they are at full power or not I don't know.

Ringgold. I'm getting about 50% or notta to WTVC-DT which baffles me as I get 95% to 3.1 & 12.1. Aren't the towers within a couple of miles of each other?

Yes, I have a 18" sonotube about 5 feet high. It's about 6.5 cuft internally. A 15" Adire Audio "Tempest" is mounted on the bottom. The Tempest is connect to a 380watt plate amp. The room is 20X40 but it will get loud and deep. The bass sounds effortless as the overall QTC is about .5. (not boomy at all) I have a 4.5cuft ported enclosure tuned to 22hz too. Its a lot louder but doesn't have the SQ of the sonotube.

Yes, the sonotube is easy to build esp. if you have a router with a circle jig. Cut two end caps per side and use liquid nails to bind. Super easy and strong. I got the sonotube from a concrete supply place downtown Chattanooga. They had a spare piece they sold me for $20. Overall, I'm very happy. I've got $350 in the whole project and am convinced my setup will destroy anything Tweeter, Best Buy, Circuit City sells under $1000!

JWERNER ch 3 and 9 are less then 1500 ft apart. I live about 4 miles north of them.
I also have a house in Spring City and I can get ch 9 good and ch 3 signal is so poor you cant watch it.I'm talking about SD in Spring City.HD here on Signal Mountain.

Channel 9 is nowhere near where it used to be. It used to be 86% consistently with no dropouts at all. Monday night football went from 30-50 % with frequent dropouts. Right now it's ranging between 0-40% with no picture.

For me, over 2 hours, WTVC-DT has been working great. Guess they fixed the tower as "wmessin" pointed out. Thanks for all the info and feedback guys.

This new PBS programming is nice. I'm thinking now is as a good time as ever to get into DT OTA in Chatt. Good stuff good thread. Cheers.

I'm fairly new to the area and am in Ringgold.
With a little Phillips indoor antenna (Don't know the number, but it has rabbit ears and a rotatable square for UHF) I can get everything except FOX. I do have to rotate the square for PBS.

Does anyone know Fox's plans? I really hope they have something lined up by the time NASCAR rolls aroung.

You can read about WDSI a lot in this thread, but basically what they are doing now (digital only no HD) is all they have plans for. They are currently broadcasting DT, but that isn't the norm... They seem to be down more than up.

I am in Soddy Daisy near Soddy Lake (right off the Hixson Pike exit). I sit behind a hill cutting off my direct LOS to the Signal Mountain towers. I'm getting ready to take the plunge into OTA HD, but the more I read the more confused I get. A lot of people locally are getting CM4228 antennas, but from what I read, the local affiliates (ABC, NBC, CBS) all broadcast in VHF, and the 4228 is a UHF antenna. Am I wrong on that? If not, is there anyone in my general area that can give me an idea on what type directional antenna to use for VHF reception?

Thanks in advance

Actually all the local stations are UHF on the digital channels, with the exception of WRCB which is on channel 13. The 4228 does a good job of pulling in ch 13 too, which is why it's a very popular antenna around here.

Anybody having a problem with channel 9 broadcasting the basketball games in HD. It seems the red is lagging and leaving shadows. I'm wondering if this is a local problem or nationwide.

You might want to try reseting your receiver and rescanning the channels.

This problem is persisting tonight on monday night football. it's a local problem...not nationwide.

I called WTVC and spoke to some woman in the newsroom who said "thanks" when I told her what was going on. I'll put a call into the chief engineer tomorrow. This problem is not only on HD programming, but through commercials and everything.

I had the same problem. Had to do some antenna rearranging to get to register 63%. used to be 89%. All other stayed at 90%.

Hey Guys,

Did anyone record the MNF game last night? SD or HD i don't care; i just wanted to see it! I know there was a lot of history and old clips shown last night but my PC missed the recording (power outage). I was hoping someone local had it. Thanks

I couldn't get him on the phone so I sent him an email and copied the GM on it, so hopefully that will get them seriously looking into this. I noticed the problem is still there tonight.

The problem is only on network feeds. It persists through HD and non-HD programming provided it's coming from ABC and not natively from Chattanooga. Even the network commercials are showing this problem.

Anyway, should be interesting to see what Mr. Brown says this time.

How can they have any type of quality control process? It appears that they do not. I've never had a response from Mr. Brown in the past, so I decided to forward my message to Calvin Sneed also. Maybe he can investigate his own place of employment.
