I use an attic antenna in Madisonville with good results so I would think you'd be fine with same in Metairie.

I used the CM 4228 in Metairie in the attic and it worked great. I lived around Clearview and Airline Drive.

After finally getting my HDTV back to my new house in Pearl River I started to get everything set up for the OTA HD. I have the CM 4228 with the 7777 Pre-amp. I tired for hours to get WWL, but could not. Is the digital station working? I picked up stations from Gulfport and I think Baton Rouge while moving the antenna around and around.

Here are the digital stations I could get this morning.

8-1 - FOX - I assume - it had Church on and no logo.
12-1 PBS
13-1 thru 13-4 - WLOX (ABC) Gulfport
20-1 - WHNO
24-1 thru 24-4 - UPN
26-1 - ABC
57-1 - CBS (this came in one time, but then went off. Do not know what station it was. It did have a CBS logo).

Now I understand that NBC - channel 6 is not working, but what about WWL (4).

Also does anyone have the digital numbers and directions for the other HD stations in Baton Rouge and Gulfport/Biloxi?

I was setting up my OTA HD and came across a channel 57.1. It was a CBS station and it came in crystal clear for about 15 minutes.

Any idea what station this is and where it is?

I did a search and could not find any CBS stations on channel 57 that you would pick up from Pearl River. Digital channels are easy to identify since their station call letters are downloaded with the signal. You can search for those call letters and figure out where that station is coming from.

If you are picking up WGNO, you should be able to pick up WWL. They are in the same general direction from Pearl River and WWL can be found on rf 36. You may have had WWL and your system may have mapped it to 57.1.

Was WWL up and running yesterday morning? What do you mean by rf 36? I am using a Directv HD receiver and the call letters was not coming in for some reason. The only way to identify what station it was is by watching it for a while.

I'm getting WWL on 4.1 on Direct TV right now. The Price is Right is on. That program is not in HD. But the station is broadcasting on their digital channel if that's what you are asking.

57-1 is 1000kw rig at http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/FMTV-serv...=DT601800.html

Baton Rouge Stations:

RF46 - WAFB 9 CBS - 46kw Low Power for RF46 (1 HD - 1 News - 1 Radar - 1 TheTube)
RF45 - WGMB 44 FOX - 1000kw (1 HD - 1 SD feed of the WB)
RF34 - WVLA 33 NBC - 1000kw (1 HD)
RF25 - WLPB 27 PBS - 200kw - medium power (1 HD - 2 SD channels)
RF13 - WBRZ 2 ABC - 30kw - good enough for RF13 (1 HD - 1 News - 1 Radar)

Most of these transmitters except for WAFB, which is pointless to try for anyways, are located on the south side of BR.

Hello, I am new to this forum. I am moving to an Condo complex at St. Charles and Jackson in uptown NO. My unit has a huge window that faces St. Charles Avenue (NW). As some people on this forum may know, according to AntennaWeb the local TV stations direct their HD signals from the East. I'm gonna have D*TV, and really need to have my locals in HD. I don't live more than 8 miles from all the stations. However, there are several tall buildings around me, not to mention my window is facing the opposite direction of the OTA HD signals. What kind of indoor HD antenna can I use? Terk makes an outdoor one that I could set up by my window (but not actually outdoors) that supposedly is best for urban/apartment living because it accepts reflected signals even if you're on the wrong side of the building. Anybody have any input as to what I can do? Thanks!

P.S. - does anybody know if I can get D*TV to allow me to get the New York or LA feeds of CBS, NBC, FOX, ABC in HD because they aren't yet offering them to NOLA?

Probably not. Several of us tried to get the national feeds via Directv after Katrina. The local stations has to agree with this and they all refused to.

Go to a Radio Shack or Wal-Mart and buy several indoor antennas. Open the boxes carefully and try them. If they do not work take them back. You will also need a compass to point you the right direction. I have used indoor antennas and outdoor antennas from a window before. If you get something to work get a CM 4228 and have in inside.

Just to clarify, you're saying that if any of these indoor antennas i could get at radio shack or walmart do indeed pick up stations, then I should return them and get the large CM 4228 and set it inside by the window? The CM 4228 is a large directional antenna, so you think that despite the fact that i'm so close to the stations, using this CM 4228 may overcome the high rise building issues and the "i'm facing the wrong side of the building" issues?

thanks rgathright

It would be a hit or a miss. If you could find the CM 4228 locally, you may be able to take it back. Or maybe someone could loan you theirs to try out. When I lived in Atlanta there was a loaner that members of this forum could borrow.

The main thing is to move the antenna all around your place to find the best strength. I usually set up mine CM 4288 (whenever I have it inside) using a camera tripod and a wooden dowel. Zip strip the dowel to the tripod and attach the antenna to it.

Anybody here who has DirecTV notice a down-resoluted (not true 1920x1080) signal on HD channels which people are now referring to as HD-lite? I'm currently with COX and my HD channels look pretty good. I'm gonna be switching over to D* because of my Condo. If anyone does notice it or know anything about it, is it degraded enough to notice terribly or really worry about?

D* has been doing this for quite sometime. They down rezzing to 1280X1080i I believe, it creates a washed look to the video. I've seen E* and D* side by side but not Cox and D*. On most channels E* was the winner on video quality, but if you do you research you will find that E* is downrezzing it's Voom lineup. But on the other hand you'll find 1920X1080i 17+Mbps streams on E* of HDNet and HDNetMovies but you won't find this on D*. I'd see if you can go the E* route as they clearly have the winning HD lineup at this point.

I am considering a new Samsung (HLS-5688) and I am counting on getting the TV Guide On Screen Program Guide.

I know Cox offers their guide with a STB but I hope to avoid a box because I don't like them. I used to get Guide Plus on my current RCA TV but that disappeared after Katrina. Next Channel 4 scrolling TV guide disappeared. I do get a Microsoft (?) TV guide on my Media Center PC.

Does anyone know if Cox provides the TVGOS listings?

Thanks

Frank

TVGOS data is broadcast from a local TV station. Usually (but not always) this is broadcast from your local PBS affiliate. If the local station is broadcasting TVGOS data, it should be passed through the cableco to your TV. It is illegal for cablecos to strip TVGOS data from their signal. However, if you have a cablebox connected to the TV, some brands will not pass the TVGOS data to the TV. Here's a thread about TVGOS.

Thanks, arxaw.

I have been following the TVGOS thread and I was looking here for local experience.

As a last resort , I called Cox here, explained that TVGOS was an alternate to the Cox EPG and asked if they passed it through. The initial answer was there is only the Cox guide.

To persuade the person to look a little deeper, I explained I get an EPG on my PC through Cox. He checked more and then said they do pass through TVGOS.

I am still having no luck receiving WGNODT over the air. On my Directv H10 converter I am receiving the same program on 26.1 and 49.1 and it is not channel 26. After several calls to the station I am about to give up. No one has an answer. Does anyone have this same problem? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You might have to use something other than a Direct TV reciever. Lots of problems with them posted on this forum in regard to picking up some digital OTA stations.

I finally had time to play around with my setup to see what stations I could get. I am in Pearl River and my CM 4228 with CM7777 is in my attic. Here are the results from the same direction (which is towards Baton Rouge - 85+ miles away).

New Orleans Stations (received with no pixilation)
4.1
8.1
12.1
20.1
26.1
38.1
49.1
54.1

Biloxi Stations (has some pixilation-but could get better by moving to the East)
13.1 (ABC)

Baton Rouge (picked up great on Saturday morning, but lost later on. Picked up again Saturday night on and off.)
9.1 (CBS)
33.1 (NBC)

May experiment to see if the Baton Rouge stations will come in and stay in by moving antenna outside.

I'm shocked you picked up 9.1(RF 46)!! I don't live that far from their tower and if a frog pisses in the wind between the station and me, it's gone! It's a very low power station on a semi-short mast.

There have been some issues with 33.1, the signal is lower in my area now than 44.1. 44.1(RF45) and 33.1(RF34) are both supposed to be 1000kw rigs with 33.1 being at higher elevation. You'd think 33.1 would be stronger due to the higher elevation and 1000kw being more effective at RF34, but 44.1 knocks my doors down at 100% while 33.1 hits around 80%.

By moving the antenna outside I'm sure you'll easily see a 40% increase if not more in reception. I'm not talking about a 40% increase on your signal meter as every set manufacturer uses a little different formula, some use strength, some use BER, some use a combination of both.

It's the directv reciever. I spoke with Directv. The head tech was supposed to call me but never did. My Samsung reciever has no problem with the re-mapping. The HS10 that I have does exactly what yours does. Directv's recievers are junk and they are forcing them down our throats with the MPEG4 when that happens.

Forgive me if this is dumb ... I have been thinking of ordering DirecTV HD, but have not because you can't get local channels in HD. Are y'all saying you can hook up an OTA antenna to a DirecTV receiver and view channels through receiver?

If so, this may speed up my process to upgrade.
